  • A linear state equation of the first order differential form relating the load-frequency dynamic characteristics of interconnected power systems was derived for use in computer simulation. A now solution of the algebraic matrix riccati equation for application in quadratic optimal controllor and least-square state estimator dermination was developed. The program for a dynamic state equation for two interconnected control areas was developed. The optimized load-frequency deviation was analysed and a numerical analysis was tried based on the computer simulation. It was shown that the dynamic response of th loed-frequency could be optimized with weighting factors IR and Q. The result was that the load-frequency and the tie-line deviation were visibly reduced.

  • This paper presents vibration control performance of active engine mount system installed with the magneto-rheological (MR) mount and the piezostack mount. The performance is evaluated via hardware-in-the-loop-simulation(HILS) method. As a first step, six degrees-of freedom dynamic model of an in-line four-cylinder engine which has three points mounting system is derived by considering the dynamic behaviors of MR mount and piezostack mount. As a second step, sliding mode controller(SMC) is synthesized to actively control the imposed vibration In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed active engine mount, vibration control performances are evaluated under various engine operating speeds (wide frequency range) using HILS method and presented in time and frequency domain.

  • The threshold of instability for a rigid rotor supported in externally pressurized airlubricated circular or non-circular journal bearings of finite length is theoretically analyzed. The analysis is performed for a bearing having one feeding plane, no recess volume, which is assumed to be a line source, and is based on a first order perturbation of journal center motion about steady state position. And then linearized system dynamic analysis is carried out. Numerical results are given, showing the threshold of instability as a function of supply pressure ratio, feeding parameter and load. It is shown that the region that 2-lobe bearing is more stable than circular bearing exists and whirl ratio of 2-lobe bearing is less than that of the other types of bearing.

  • A subsidiary-main track for passenger station is a low-speed track section distinct from a through route such as a main track. It is parallel to a through track and connected to it at both ends by switches. Sidetracks allow for fast, high priority trains to pass slower or lower priority trains going the same direction. They are important for efficiency to order and organize the flow of rail traffic. In this paper we first describe the minimum headway between trains using the concept of occupation time in a block section, which depends on block systems, signalling system and safety technology. And then a stepwise approach is presented to select station, which is suitable to install sidetrack for a given train-traffic pattern. This approach is tested with sample example data, which are surveyed from track geometry based on the to-be-constructed line.

Modification of QUICK Scheme for Unstructured Grid Finite Volume Method (비정렬 유한체적법을 위한 QUICK법의 수정)

  • The QUICK scheme for convection terms is modified for unstructured finite volume method by using linear reconstruction technique and validated through the computation of two well defined laminar flows. It uses two upstream grid points and one downstream grid point in approximating the convection terms. The most upstream grid point is generated by considering both the direction of flow and local grid line. Its value is calculated from surrounding grid points by using a linear construction method. Numerical error by the modified QUICK scheme is shown to decrease about 2.5 times faster than first order upwind scheme as grid size decreases. Computations are also carried out to see effects of the skewness and irregularity of grid on numerical solution. All numerical solutions show that the modified QUICK scheme is insensitive to both the skewness and irregularity of grid in terms of the accuracy of solution.

  • This paper presents a modified track guidance algorithm for formation flight of multiple UAVs. The suggested guidance algorithm is the spatial version of the first order dynamic characteristics for a time-dependent system so the algorithm is able to generate a path without overshoot to track the desired line. A crucial design parameter is a spatial constant that controls the shape of the convergence to an assigned flight path similarly to a time constant. Reference flight trajectories are designed based on a two-dimensional vehicle model, and the performance of the proposed guidance law is verified by numerical simulation using rigid body UAV dynamics with MATLAB/Simulink Aerosim Blockset.

A study of the adaptive de-interlacing up-conversions for enhancement horizontal and vertical edges (수평 및 수직 윤곽선을 개선한 적응 주사선 보간 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, for the first time, we propose the ADI(Adaptive De-Interlacing) algorithm, which improves visually and subjectively, horizontal and vertical edges on the image processed by the ELA (Edge Based Line Average) method. The proposed ADI algorithm enlargesthe window size to 5*3 in order to utilize the feature of the continuity of edges, and the adaptive interpolator is employed to decide adaptiely horizontal, diagonal, and vertical edges. Based on the results of the compter simulation, it is confimed that the new ADI algorithm improve the PSNR by 0.5dB in the Lena image with 512*512 size and by 0.4dB in the sequence image of a salesman, respectively. For the horizontal and vertial edges on the still and salesman sequence images, the proposed ADI algorithm has better visulal improvement than the conventional ELA algorithm.

Catching Performance for the Mechanized Pollock Longline (기계화된 명태연승의 조획성능)

  • Catching performance of a mechanized pollock longline system compared with traditional one were examined in order to evaluate the practicality during two cruises in the Sokcho area. Mechanized longline system consists of random baiter, bait cutting machine, storage rails, and line hauler. Baiting efficiency of random baiter was 90-95% with 4-5kt shooting speed. Catching performance of the first experiment, salted sand lance only used as a bait. shows no significant difference between mechanized operation with use fresh sand lance as a bait caught significantly more pollock than traditional one with use salted sand lance (P<0.016). Improved catch rates were about 2 times. As soak time goes on, relative catching efficiency shows a steady increase up to 6~7 hours and thereafter gradually decrease.

  • In this paper, the equation of the transient Stokes flow of an incompressible viscous fluid is studied. Growth and decay estimates are established associating some appropriate cross sectional line and area integral measures. The method of the proof is based on a first-order differential inequality leading to an alternative of Phragm$\'{e}$n-Lindell$\"{o} $f type in terms of an area measure of the amplitude in question. In the case of decay, we also indicate how to bound the total energy.

Recognition of Car License Plates Using Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm

  • In this paper, we proposed the recognition system of car license plates to mitigate traffic problems. The processing sequence of the proposed algorithm is as follows. At first, a license plate segment is extracted from an acquired car image using morphological features and color information, and noises are eliminated from the extracted license plate segment using line scan algorithm and Grassfire algorithm, and then individual codes are extracted from the license plate segment using edge tracking algorithm. Finally the extracted individual codes are recognized by an FCM algorithm. In order to evaluate performance of segment extraction and code recognition of the proposed method, we used 100 car images for experiment. In the results, we could verify the proposed method is more effective and recognition performance is improved in comparison with conventional car license plate recognition methods.
