  • Purpose: The 'learning cycle' proposed by Guilbert in 1981 has been accredited as an effective and useful model for curriculum design. Three components of learning cycle, learning objective, instructional method, and assessment are connected organically and form basic structure of curriculum. In this study, we intend to analyze how the learning cycle and its three components are applied to present medical curriculum and examine the points at issue of the learning cycle in medical education. Also, we try to identify the educational significance of the leaning cycle in medical education. Results: First, concerning the learning objective, it was identified that impractical and abstract expressions are major controversial points. Also, there is a need to make learning objectives covering entire medical curriculum. Second, because of various structural problems, it is hard to practice new and various instructional methods. Third, even though there is a growing need for medical curriculum to develop and utilize more various and detailed assessment and evaluation, it was revealed that only are standardized and traditional assessments mainly used. Conclusion: Synthetically, we have some suggestions as follows. First, it is necessary to specify and actualize the learning objectives. Also, instructional methods and assessments should be diversified. And finally, there is a need to build organic and delicate medical curriculum by applying the learning cycle to medical education more actively.

  • The first job of university graduates is the beginning of career development, and it has a great influence on a personal life in the transition process of a labor market later. The study has compared and analyzed the effects of major variables (whether or not one participates in the career and employment programs, the satisfaction in the education infrastructure and curriculum) related to university education that determine the satisfaction in the first job of graduates from the entire university of 4-year general courses and the engineering college with experiences of having the first job. Through this, it is meaningful to make it possible for the design of university education related to career and employment tailored to the engineering college. The results of 2017 Graduate Occupational Mobility Survey were used as the data for analysis, which was analyzed by the decision tree analysis. As it was found that the most important factor determining the satisfaction in the first job was student welfare facilities for the entire graduates among education infrastructure and was major curriculum and its content among education curriculum for the graduates from the engineering college, it was analyzed that factors related to majors were more important compared to other majors in the engineering college. The customized major curriculum and content should be considered as a priority, taking into account of the demand of the industry for the successful settlement of graduates from the engineering college in a labor market.

  • In order to prepare for the coming twenty first Century and to meet changing societal dedmands and health needs, it is necessary to develop a new conceptual framework for curriculum the colleges of nursing. The specific objectives of this project were to ; 1) address the problem areas of the existing curriculum which were identified in the first phase of this study ; 2) develop a conceptual framework which will meet faculty, student and societal needs : and 3) identify the content of the curriculum In order to accomplish the objectives, the curriculum committee held 30 weekly meetings during the period of October, 1992 and December, 1993, There also were two workshops with college of nursing faculty members. The Philosophy and objectives of education were revised on the basis of the essential concepts of nursing : human being, nursing, environment, and health. From these basic concepts, six essential components were identified for the conceptual framework. These were nuring process, communication, professional roles, client, and nursing. These six components are interrelated in the curriculum. The complex interrelationship among the six components were presented on horizontal and vertical axes. Concepts related to steady improvement were put on a vertical axis. For example, concepts of client, health, and nursing are included in all levels of nursing curriculum and students are expected to retain and accumulate more complex contents as they progress in curriculum. Concepts on the horizontal axis are nursing process, communication, and professional roles. These concepts are unique to nursing and are common to any level of curriculum. Students are expected to study these concepts through all levels of the curriculum. It is expected that the objectives of the college of nursing will be accomplished when the courses and content of the curriculum are based on this conceptual fremework.

  • In this study, how to instruct the computational estimation of addition and subtraction was considered from the perspective of a 'intended-written-implemented' multi-dimensional curriculum. To this end, the 2015 revised elementary school mathematics curriculum as a intended curriculum and the 2015 revised first~sixth grade textbook as a written curriculum were analyzed with respect to how to instruct the computational estimation of addition and subtraction. As an implemented curriculum, a research study was conducted in relation to the method of instructing teachers about the computational estimation of addition and subtraction. As a result, first, it is necessary to discuss how to develop the ability to estimate and set it as a teaching goal and achievement standard in a separate curriculum to instruct it with learning content. Second, it is necessary to provide an opportunity to learn about various estimation methods by presenting specific activities so that students can learn the estimation itself in a separate operation method. Third, in order to improve the computational estimating ability of addition and subtraction, contents related to the computational estimation need to be included in the achievement criteria, and discussions on the expansion of the areas, and the diversification of the instructing time will be needed.

  • This study investigates the implementation of the Converged Science, and what teachers and students think of it in order to understand how it is taking root in schools. The results identify ways in which the new curriculum can establish itself in schools. One hundred and two science teachers, who had participated in the mandatory workshop for the 2009 Amended Course of Science, were given the first survey regarding their general perception of the converged science curriculum. A year after the first implementation of the new curriculum, one hundred and seventy one science teachers were given the second survey in order to determine their general perception and actual results in the classrooms. A similar survey was given to one hundred and forty nine tenth grade students. In addition, one hundred and forty eight tenth grade students, who had experienced the new science curriculum, took part in another survey revealing their general thoughts the course. The results show that the teachers' responses are rarely positive. The teachers claimed that the contents were too extensive while the level of fundamental concepts were too rigorous for tenth graders. They also asserted that the contents contained too much of a particular subject, and that it is necessary to lower the level of rigor. With regard to the level of unification of converged science textbooks, the teachers expressed that they are still slightly inadequate. The subject of science in the seventh curricula was criticized due to its lack of convergence: over 90% of the respondents answered negatively. On the other hand, the students responded more positively: they said that the new converged science was difficult to learn, but was interesting. In Busan, most high schools adopted the new curriculum in the first year when it was introduced for the first time. In most cases (over 80%), several teachers divided and taught the contents either according to their majors or regardless of their majors.

  • An outcome-based curriculum or competency-based curriculum is regarded to be one of the mainstream curricula to make students centered. It is believed to be able to support a flexible, time-independent curriculum. However, it is not easy for the curriculum developers to convert from the traditional curriculum to an competency-based curriculum. Traditional medicines including Sasang constitutional medicine(SCM) have been on the verge of transforming their curricula. Considering the contents of the clinical skills in terms of an outcome-based curriculum in SCM, at least five categories needs to be covered. First, curriculum developers need to consider the understanding of relevant diseases concerning SCM although SCM could be used as the method to treat all kinds of diseases. Second, curriculum developers facilitate the students to diagnose patients' SCM types. Third, curriculum developers conduct the establishment of competencies to understand the patterns of SCM symptomology. Fourth, curriculum developers develop the diverse treatment methods and procedures to make students participate. Fifth, curriculum developers make students teach and consult their patients in terms of SCM regimen. Development of the clinical skill contents in detail depends on the situation of each colleges. Competency-based medical curriculum in SCM could influence on the management of the curriculum quality.
