  • A series of fire experiments has been conducted to provide an improved understanding of the fire structure of under-ventilated compartment fires. A comprehensive and quantitative assessment of gaseous species from the fire was made in the upper layer of fire in a 40 % reduced scale ISO 9705 fire compartment. The global equivalence ratio (GER) concept was used to characterize the fire behavior for various fire sizes, fuel types and ventilation conditions. The oxygen concentration in the upper layer reached to zero near the global equivalence ratio of $0.4{\sim}0.6$ while the carbon monoxide concentration increases with increasing the global equivalence ratio. Classification parameters of ISO19706 were also compared with the reduced scale experimental data for under ventilation fire.

  • The present study investigates the effect of fire growth model on fire development characteristics in a carriage. The parallel processing version of FDS code is used to simulate the fire driven flow in a carriage and two types of fire growth model which are flame spread model and t$^2$ model are examined for the same geometrical condition. The heat release rates(HRR) of both model are similar each other until 30 s after ignition, but the flame spread model predicts 5 times higher than those of the t$^2$ fire model during the quasi-steady fire period. Maximum heat release rate in the case of flame spread model reaches about to 12 MW at 100 s after fire ignition. Also, various database of fire properties for combustible materials and more elaborate combustion model considering the flame spreading phenomena are required for better predictions of fire development characteristics using numerical simulation.

  • The "Ondong tunnel" is not used now where is one of the tunnels in the Janghang line which is from Cheonan to Iksan. The length of the tunnel is 214 m. The location of the fire source is center of the tunnel and the pool fire with heptane is for the fire source. Tests are carried out for the various fire sizes, the height and obstructed/open condition of the fire source. Temperature on the top of the tunnel is measured. Even if the fire size is same, the maximum temperature on the ceiling of the tunnel for the elevated fire source is very larger than the maximum for the ground fire source. As the fire size is lager the maximum temperature on the ceiling is higher. These test results can be very useful for design and guidelines of fire detectors in tunnels.

  • There is not high level to fire number in stables, but if it were fire, there would be happened many property damage in a national or personal. We grasp safety awareness of a safety supervisor enforcing question survey of electric installation for national stables, and investigate use the actual condition of electric installment with a heating apparatus, a ventilating system, a distributing board, a wiring apparatus etc high fire dangerousness among electric installment using a stables I hope to make use of data to protect a electric fire submitted thesis.

  • The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) has been applied to simulate a full-scale pool fire in well-confined and mechanically ventilated multi-compartments representative of nuclear power plant. The predictive performance of FDS was evaluated through a comparison of the numerical data with experimental data obtained by the OECD/NEA PRISME project. To identify clearly the FDS results regarding to the user-dependence in the process of FDS implementation except for the intrinsic limitation of FDS such as simple combustion model, only the over-ventilated fire condition was chosen. In particular, the importance of accurate boundary conditions (B.C.) in mechanically ventilated system were discussed in details. It was known from FDS results that the B.C. on inlet and outlet vents did significantly affect the thermal and chemical characteristics inside the compartments. Finally, it was confirmed that the FDS imposed an accurate ventilation B.C. provided qualitatively good agreement with temperatures, heat fluxes and concentrations measured inside the nuclear-type multi-compartments.

  • The onset of fire on the International Space Station (ISS) is a critical problem that can threaten the life of crew members onboard and thus instantaneous fire detection and extinguishment technology has been considered as one of the most important aspects in the ISS operation. In the present study, a numerical analysis was performed to better understanding of the characteristics of smoke behaviors and detection in a pressurized module of the ISS using the NIST Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS). Numerical results indicate that the smoke flow patterns under zero-gravity condition are clearly different from those under normal gravity condition. In addition, the results obtained from numerical simulations coupled with the PM internal flows are expected to provide basic and useful information in designing the microgravity fire detection devices and establishing in fire response protocol for astronauts or the crew members.

  • Goverment and enterprises have been devoting a lot of dffort in order to prevent the loss of human and property due to a large, diversified fire, explosion, global warming and disasters caused by natural phenomena. But Enterprises came forward and running in the economy priority policy for profit-seeking until now in order to meet the macro purpose of quality improvement of national life and welfare promotion in company with National growth, as a result of lax risk management have had to endure the loss of precious lives and property. According to the '2007 Survey of public safety for the activation of the safety culture' of National Emergency Management Agency [NEMA], a insensitivity of safety in our society was surveyed 'a serious level'. In this study, surveyed need of 'step-by-step fire protection safety management system builds' in order to prevent fire safety accident and improvement of safety awareness level through a systematic management and real condition estimation of not only large business that can control risk management, but also small business that has a big risk to occur accident easily according to small budget and organization.

  • As the present idustry is devolping rapidly, automatic sprinklers continue to play a key role in modern fire protection. But the technical basis and methods of measurement of the thermal response of sprinklers are not studying in our country. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the thermal response characteristics and condition parameters of automatic sprinkler head.

  • This reoprt intended to apprehend the principle for combustible phenomena in the environments and the prediction of its hazard in the virtual fire. So we first explained the basic machanism for the combustion, and discovered the tendency of the conbustion in the condition of the environmental factors(Humidity, Wind, Temperature) by means of some sxperiments about the wood as example.
