The Regional Festival Promotion Plan Utilizing Historical and Cultural Resources of the Chungnam Region: With a Focus on Tojeong Lee Ji-Ham's Geolincheong (충남지역 역사문화자원을 활용한 지역축제 추진 방안 연구: 토정(土亭) 이지함(李之菡)의 걸인청(乞人廳)을 중심으로)

  • As there have been many cases where successful regional festivals acts as the promotion of regional brand images and as the driving force of regional economic development, changes in awareness that significantly accepts external promotion effects and the commercial value of regional festivals are greatly expanding. When seen from this perspective, the regional festival, which has Tojeong Lee Ji-Ham, a scholar in the Joseon Dynasty period in the 16th century and Geolincheong as subject matter, is expected to contribute greatly to the establishment of Chungnam Asan region's identity and to the vitalization of the regional economy. He is one of the all-time eccentrics and at the same time he is an intellectual who practiced innovative spirit of the times and a sense of economy for the relief and self-support of common people and the balanced development of the nation during his life. In this sense, the regional festival that is based on Lee Ji-Ham's Geolincheong has meaning and values as a cultural content from and device, which realizes and continues the spirit of the times and the thoughts that he pursued, in the modern context in time and space.

  • Recently, demands for leisure and performing arts are increasing. In perspective of enjoying culture away from every day life, interests for music festival are also growing. Music festival industry has been grown rapidly since the mid 2000s and it has become popular culture especially for younger generation. As music festival culture becomes popular, music festival becomes bigger and a number of participants are rising continuously. However, some services which music festivals provide are not interactive. So, it makes difficult users to feel festival experience and to satisfy. Although some festivals are trying to deal with things through mobile applications, those in the market showed weaknesses. Therefore, this study aims to suggest some improvements for music festival application through user research. As the result of user study, improvements and functions of music festival application were deducted.

  • This study aims to suggest profitability models of local cultural festival to be a focal point of local culture to overcome the abuses as an annual event led by the local government agencies have been in force in every local areas currently, to elicit the local residents' voluntary participation and to engage the outside tourists in connection of a more effective promotion and marketing. The festival is attractive to people with that provoke mirth and inspire curiosity, but the festival is not a one-time event ongoing maintenance enlarge: It is absolutely necessary in order to effort to reach at consumer-oriented quality of service. Also this research intends to present a activation scheme by developing profitability models to make profits while holding a number of risks taking into account the characteristics of the local festival service carried out. To this end, based on established research, leading indicator and expert opinion were analyzed through multiple regression analysis.

An Exploratory Study on Selection Attributes of Food in the Cultural tourism Festival through Conjoint Analysis (컨조인트 분석을 통한 문화관광 축제 판매 음식 선택 속성에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Despite a number of previous studies about cultural tourism festivals, studies on food menus in the cultural tourism festival setting have often been neglected. Considering the importance of food menus, identifying major selection attributes that satisfy visitors in a festival setting is vital. Using conjoint analysis, this study demonstrated that price was the most influential selection attributes to attract visitors. The time required between ordering and receiving food was found to be the second important selection attribute, followed by menu and place. Cluster analysis identified two distinct segments that take different sets of elements into account when making their selection decision. Conjoint simulation estimated the most preferred foodservice form in cultural tourism festivals setting would have 21.18% potential market share. The implications gained from this study provided an important starting point for determining key selection attributes in establishing strategies to enhance visitors' level of satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the basic scales of festival quality. We conducted a content analysis in the discourse of KINDS(Korea Integrated News Database System) and derived five constituent factors, basic quality measures of local festivals through the extensive literature review. We named these qualities "Festival BASICQUAL" that is consist of Infrastructure, Connectedness, Passion, Theme, Culture. We conducted the empirical analysis for the participants in "Geumsan Insam Festival" to verify the "Festival BASICQUAL" As the result, Infrastructure, Connectedness, Culture affected positively on Festival Attachment among all BASICQUALs. However, Passion and Theme did not positively affected on the dependent variable. And then, Festival Attachment positively affected on Festival Satisfaction, while Festival Satisfaction also affected positively on Behavior Intention. This study developed the basic quality concerned with local festivals which is crucial fundamentals to quantify Festival BASICQUAL through empirical study. The proper applications and usage of these newly introduced local festival qualities enable to acquire the sustainable competitive advantage in local festival.

An Experience Needs Analysis on the Rural Amenity Resources of Urbanites (도시민의 농촌어메니티자원 체험욕구 분석)

  • This study intends analyzes the experience urbanites need regarding rural amenities when visiting rural areas for leisure. For this purpose, 18 rural amenities that can be experienced at 65 traditional rural villages and are designated by the rural development administration(RDA) were selected. Based on rural amenity selection, a questionnaire survey was conducted in 10 cities with 1,052 urban residents. The cities were divided into 5 metropolitan cities(Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Kwangju and Daejeon) and 5 small cities in each province(Chuncheon, Suwon, Jeonju, Chungju and Pohang). The study results suggest that of the 18 rural amenities, urbanites want greater experience with landscape resources near water and forests, health resources related to food and traditional resources such as traditional architecture and culture. Those amenities not chosen were animals, famous people and agricultural landscapes. In addition, women indicated more experience needs than men. Specifically, women want to experience the rural amenities dealing with tradition and health. In addition, people under 40 want to experience active program related festivals(events) and arts and crafts, whereas the group over 40 prefers a non-active program, such as observing the rural landscape and planting. College graduates want to experience the landscape while college students prefer arts and crafts and festivals(events). Those with below average salaries want to experience the most rural amenities. There were no differences in experience needs between those surveyed in metropolitan cities and those in small cities. Finally, the people who visited rural areas within the last year want to experience water, plants, agricultural landscape, health and rural life resources more than other groups, and there is correlation between plans to visit rural villages and experience needs. The results of this study provide insightful information for rural planning strategies such as selection of the type of marketing segments.

A Study on the Current Status of Baekje Parade Costume Shown in Festivals - Focusing on Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival and Yeongam Wangin Cultural Festival - (축제에서 재현된 백제행렬복식의 현황연구 - 한성백제문화제와 영암왕인문화축제를 중심으로 -)

  • Festival costume shown in festival parades targeting historical events or figures helps to understand the theme of festival and grants visual effects and at the same time, is an important factor to identify then-cultural environment. Accordingly, this study aims to make a periodic review of traditional costumes used in parades for Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival and Yeongam Wangin Cultural Festival which are both the festivals that backgrounded Baekje period, make a comparative analysis of the archetypes of reproduction costume vs Baekje costume, understand the problems of festival costume, and seek developmental directions. After making a comparative analysis of reproduction costume shown in festival parades, it was found that king costume, queen costume, governmental official costume, and humble class costume were all different from Baekje costume in terms of configuration, materials, color, shape, and creating method of costumes, and problems were drawn. When it comes to costume items, Pasul and Danryungpoh that didn't belong to Baekje period were worn. The problems in color research can be identified in governmental official costume. The problems in type of costume are shown in the length of po worn outside, margin of width, and degree of restoring accessories. Therefore, it seems to be necessary to convey and identify costume creating method by festival parade-related persons.

The Comparative Analysis of Satisfaction Degree among Local Residents, Domestic and Foreign Tourists : The Case of Baekje Cultural Tourism Festival (축제방문객의 집단별 만족도 비교 연구 -제57회 백제문화제를 중심으로-)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to find out the characteristics of foreign tourists comparing to Korean and how they evaluate the festival respectively. Data were collected during the 57th Baekje cultural tourism festival. The total of 674 sample sizes was collected during the festival, of which 558 respondents were domestic visitors, and 116 were foreign visitors. The empirical results showed that domestic visitors and foreign visitors are different in terms of the perception of performance evaluation, and satisfaction. Especially foreigners' degrees of satisfaction proved to be higher than those of koreans. It also expects the result of the study contribute to the development of efficient festival management policies and programs and facilities to meet the goals of cultural tourism festivals. Besides, the outcome of this research may be useful to other festivals and their future operation.

  • Many festivals are based on overseas municipalities 'city image marketing' planning. This trend is gradually reflected in this country as with the Kimcheon International Family Theatre Festival in the Republic of Korea. Gimcheon promotes itself as the central city of happiness 'city image marketing'. Most of these dimensions are in the middle of planning a festival when the Manjiman Kimcheon International Family Theatre Festival Theatre Festival, and the differentiation of the other audiences that drive successful practices in terms of box office need to be determined. This paper presents the history and status of the Kimcheon International Family Theatre Festival Theatre Festival and others based on the reports point out the distinction of a 100% share of the audience for the fifth consecutive year to analyze the cause. In particular, with local art and local performing arts festivals, audiences through a combination of 'show' Theatre Festival are also indirectly involved in the 'touch and feel' willingness to participate. In the Kimcheon International Family Theatre Festival there are significant challenges for improvements in significance.

  • With industrial restructuring and growing competition among places throughout the world, many countries including Korea are getting highly dependent on place marketing as their development strategy. Previous discussions on place marketing strategy maintain that the strategy should be performed on the basis of the unique placeness of each place. Not all places, however, have placeness that can be used for the place marketing strategy. Also, there are some cases of success in place marketing by introducing elements irrelevant to the places. In this context, this study aims to analyze previous debates on place and place marketing, and to investigate the possibility of creating placeness. In addition, it selected as case places the city of Ashland and the city of Jacksonville in the state of Oregon, USA and Tongyeong-si in Korea and examined how the art festivals, one of major means of place marketing, can be used in creating placeness.
