  • This study aims to identify the relationship between stress and feeling of happiness among high school students, and to examine the double mediating model of subjective well-being and gratitude disposition on that relationship. Participants of this study were 245 male and female high school students. Perceived Stress Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Emotion Frequency Test, Gratitude Questionnaire-6, and Subjective Happiness Scale were used for this study. To analyse a sequential double mediating effect, PROCESS Macro 3.5 Model 6 was used. Results revealed that stress was negatively correlated with subjective well-being, gratitude disposition, and feeling of happiness among high school students. And, subjective well-being was positively correlated with gratitude disposition and feeling of happiness, while gratitude disposition was positively correlated with feeling of happiness. It was found that subjective well-being and gratitude disposition were sequentially mediating stress and feeling of happiness among high school students. Because these findings suggest that subjective well-being and gratitude disposition play important roles in adolescents' happiness, it is necessary to promote their subjective well-being and gratitude disposition.

  • Previous research has demonstrated that happy moods are known to promote feeling-based processing, whereas sad moods promote reason-based processing. The current research investigates a boundary condition for the effects of a happy mood on feeling-based decision making. This research proposes that the level of control (low vs. high) one exercises in a happy situation can promote a greater reliance on feelings (vs. reasons) in making judgments and decisions. Specifically, we hypothesize that (1) a happy individual in a situation where control level is low (vs. high) will be more likely to choose a cognitively (vs. affectively) superior option (hypothesis 1), and (2) a happy individual in a situation where control level is low (vs. high) will exert reason- (vs. feeling-) based processing (hypothesis 2). Consistent with the hypothesis 1, the results of two experiments show that happy individuals are more likely to choose cognitively versus affectively superior options in a situation where control level is low (vs. high). Moreover, the mediation analysis confirms that happy individuals are more likely to rely on cognitive, reason-based decision making when their control level is low, which supports the hypothesis 2.

  • This study examined the influence of adolescents' perception of empathy and peer support on happiness. The subjects of this study were 113 adolescents from U-city. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 22.0 program. First, in the effect of the empathy ability perceived by adolescents on the feeling of happiness, the sub-factors of the empathy ability, such as cognitive empathy and emotional empathy, had a significant positive effect on happiness. In particular, the cognitive empathy factor of the empathy ability has more influence on happiness. Second, in the relationship between the adolescents' peer support and feelings of happiness, the sub-factors of peer support, emotional support, and instrumental support had a significant positive effect on happiness. On the other hand, the sub-factors of peer support, informational support, and evaluative support did not affect happiness significantly. In particular, the emotional support factors have more influence on happiness than the instrumental support factors. This means that a higher level of empathy and peer support perceived by adolescents results in a higher feeling of happiness. This study provides basic data for preparing educational programs to improve adolescents' happiness
