Effects of temperature on the growth and ingestion rates of the newly described mixotrophic dinoflagellate Yihiella yeosuensis and its two optimal prey species

  • Water temperature is known to affect the growth and feeding of marine dinoflagellates. Each dinoflagellate species grows well at a certain optimal temperature but dies at very cold and hot temperatures. Thus, changes in water temperatures driven by global warming and extremely high or low temperatures can affect the distribution of dinoflagellates. Yihiella yeosuensis is a mixotrophic dinoflagellate that can feed on only the cryptophyte Teleaulax amphioxeia and the chlorophyte Pyramimonas sp. Furthermore, it grows fast mixotrophically but rarely grows photosynthetically. We explored the direct and indirect effects of water temperature on the growth and ingestion rates of Y. yeosuensis feeding on T. amphioxeia and the growth rates of T. amphioxeia and Pyramimonas sp. under 7 different water temperatures (5-35℃). Both the autotrophic and mixotrophic growth rates of Y. yeosuensis on T. amphioxeia were significantly affected by temperature. Under the mixotrophic and autotrophic conditions, Y. yeosuensis survived at 10-25℃, but died at 5℃ and ≥30℃. The maximum mixotrophic growth rate of Y. yeosuensis on T. amphioxeia (1.16 d-1) was achieved at 25℃, whereas the maximum autotrophic growth rate (0.16 d-1) was achieved at 15℃. The maximum ingestion rate of Y. yeosuensis on T. amphioxeia (0.24 ng C predator-1 d-1) was achieved at 25℃. The cells of T. amphioxeia survived at 10-25℃, but died at 5 and ≥30℃. The cells of Pyramimonas sp. survived at 5-25℃, but died at 30℃. The maximum growth rate of T. amphioxeia (0.72 d-1) and Pyramimonas sp. (0.75 d-1) was achieved at 25℃. The abundance of Y. yeosuensis is expected to be high at 25℃, at which its two prey species have their highest growth rates, whereas Y. yeosuensis is expected to be rare or absent at 5℃ or ≥30℃ at which its two prey species do not survive or grow. Therefore, temperature can directly or indirectly affect the population dynamics and distribution of Y. yeosuensis.

초전도 유도 반발식 부상특성을 고려한 캡슐트레인 동특성 해석 모델 구축 및 주행 특성 분석 (Capsule Train Dynamic Model Development and Driving Characteristic Analysis Considering the Superconductor Electrodynamic Suspension)

  • 아진공 튜브 안을 부상한 상태로 주행하는 캡슐트레인은 공기저항력 및 마찰력을 획기적으로 줄임으로써 초고속 주행이 가능하다. 캡슐트레인에서 부상방식으로 사용되는 초전도 유도 반발식 부상은 부상 공극이 커서 인프라 건설비용이 저렴하고 별도의 부상제어가 필요 없는 장점이 있지만, 부상·안내 공극의 변화가 크고 부상 및 안내력에 댐핑 특성이 작아 주행 안정성 및 승차감을 악화시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 초전도 유도 반발식 부상방식에 기반한 캡슐트레인의 동특성 해석 모델을 구축하고 이를 활용하여 캡슐트레인의 주행 특성을 분석하였다. 먼저 초전도 유도 반발식 부상에 있어서 동특성에 중요한 영향을 미치고 속도 및 공극 변화에 따라 비선형적인 특성을 보이는 부상 및 안내 강성을 도출하였고, 이러한 강성이 반영된 캡슐트레인의 3D 동특성 해석 모델을 구축하였다. 구축된 모델을 이용하여 캡슐트레인의 속도별 주행 특성이 승차감에 미치는 영향과 곡선 주행, 튜브 처짐 및 튜브 연결부 단차 등과 같은 주행 환경이 차량의 동특성 및 주행 안정성에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다.

낙동강에서의 세균군집구조의 역동성 (Dynamics of in situ Bacterial Community Structure in the Nak-Dong River)

  • 낙동강 전 수계 8개 정점에서 분자기법인 FISH (Fluorescent in situ Hybridization)법으로 세균군집구조를 비교분석하였다. Eubacteria에 ${\alpha}\;{\cdot}\;{\beta}\;{\cdot}\;{\gamma}-subclasses$ proteobacter CF group 세균의 합이 총세군수에서 차지하는 비율이 9.3-42.5%에서 변화하였고 그 최고치는 히상류, 청량에서 나타났다. 각 세균그룹이 총세균수에서 차지하는 비율이 10% 미만이었으나 최상류에서의 CF그룹이 총세균수에서 차지하는 비율은 23%이었다. 또한 유기물질을 분해해서 빠른 성장을 한다는 ${\gamma}-subclasses$ proteobacteria 세균군이 예상과는 달리 유기오염정도가 높은 하류에 비해 상류에서 더 많이 검출되었다. 아울러 암모니아산화세균은 $2.7-18.0{\times}10^4$ cells $mL^{-1}$의 범위에서 변화하였고 하류에서 최저치를 그리고 최고치는 중류에서 보였다. 반면에 아질산산화세균의 경우, 전수계에 걸쳐 정점간의 별 차이 없이 $5.2-7.7{\times}10^4$ Cells $mL^{-1}$에서 변화하였으며 그들이 총세균수에서 차지하는 비율은 두세균군간의 차이없이 1.0-13.6%에서 변화하였다. 결론적으로 FISH법은 통상적으로 세균군집의 정량적인 분석에 사용되지만 그 결과는 본 연구결과에서 보는 바와 같이 수계 환경의 현황에 관한 좋은 정보를 제공해주기도 한다.

지방정부의 정책추진과 갈등관리 -남양주시 소각잔재매립장 입지선정 및 건설갈등 사례- (Policy Process and Conflict Management of Local Government -A Case of Namyangju City's Landfill Site Construction for Incineration Remnants-)

  • 본 연구는 오랜 기간 동안 난항을 거듭해왔던 한 사례를 통해 지방정부의 정책추진과정에서 갈등관리능력이 차지하는 중요성을 부각시켜보고자 하는 목적으로 시도되었다. 본 연구가 주목한 사례는 지난 1991년 입지선정에서 시작하여 무려 20년이란 긴 세월 동안 정책추진의 난항을 거듭해오다가 최근에 이르러서야 해결의 문턱을 넘어 비교적 안정적인 정책추진의 기미를 보이고 있는 경기도 남양주시의 쓰레기 소각잔재 매립장 건설사례다. 유사한 입지선정 및 건설과정의 갈등을 겪었음에도 불구하고 상대적으로 짧은 기간 내에 성공적인 정책추진을 경험했던 기타의 많은 지방정부 사례와 달리 남양주시 사례의 경우 장기간 동안 대립적 상황을 거듭해 왔던 점은 갈등관리의 차원에서 주목해 볼만한 특이사례다. 과연 남양주시는 왜 정책추진에 그토록 오랜 세월을 허비하며 난항을 거듭해 온 것일까? 본 연구는 일정한 분석모형에 입각하여 정책 성패요인의 인과관계를 검증하는 연역적 접근과는 달리, 정책단계별 사례의 개요와 쟁점 및 구조를 기술하는데 치중함으로써 정책단계별 갈등관리의 중요 요소를 귀납적으로 추론해 나가는 방식을 취했다. 분석 결과, 지방정부의 정책추진과정에서 갈등관리는 정책수립 및 결정단계와 홍보단계 그리고 집행단계에 이르기까지 지속적인 민주적 절차와 토론 및 주민과의 협력을 도출하기 위한 노력을 요하는 연속적 과정임을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이는 궁극적으로 정책성공의 중요한 요인으로 작용하고 있음을 확인하고 있다.

중국의 입국관광 성장과 입국관광객의 공간적 분포 변화 (Inbound Tourism Growth and the Changing Spatial Distribution of Inbound Tourist Flows at the Regional Level in China)

  • 중국은 개혁개방 이후 입국관광을 경제성장을 위한 주요 동력 중의 하나로 인식하고 외국인의 중국 방문을 적극적으로 지지하였다. 이에 외국인 관광객 수가 빠르게 증가함에 따라 중국은 2008년 현재 입국관광객 수 기준 세계 4위에 올라 있다. 이 연구에서는 중국의 관광통계 자료를 토대로 중국의 입국관광 성장을 살펴보고 지역단위(31개 성급 행정구역)에서 방중 외국인 관광객의 공간적 분포에 대해 1995년과 2008년을 비교분석하였다. 특히 6개 국가(한국, 일본, 싱가포르, 미국, 독일, 러시아)를 대상으로 공간적 분포의 특징과 변화를 파악하는데 중점을 두었다. 러시아를 제외한 5개 국가의 경우, 국가별로 조금씩 차이가 있을지라도, 여전히 관광객이 동부지역에 밀집되어 있고 서부지역으로 갈수록 그 분포가 희박한 반면, 중부지역의 방문이 점점 더 증가하고 있다. 반면 러시아는 북부지역과 최남단지역의 방문이 두드러져 상당히 다른 분포 패턴을 보였다. 이 연구는 중국의 입국관광 관점에서 중국 지역의 변화와 역동성을 이해하고자 하였다.

임상검체로부터 분리된 Methicillin 내성 Staphylococcus aureus의 유전자형 분석 (Genotype Analyses of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from clinical specimens)

  • 황색포도상구균은 임상에서 중요한 병원체로 원내감염의 주 원인균이다. methicillin에 내성인 황색포도상구균(MRSA) 출현은 특히 전 세계적으로 임상과 역학의 주요 문제가 되고 있으며 다른 병원성 세균과 차별되는 특징으로 독성인자를 가지면서 항생제 내성을 빠르게 획득해 가고 있다. 본 연구는 한 종합병원 임상 검체로부터 얻어진 MRSA 101균주의 독소유전자(enterotoxin(se), toxic shock syndrome toxin-1(tst), exfoliative toxin(et), Panton Valentine leukocidin(pvl)) 보유 분포와 이들 독소 유전자 보유 균주들간의 항생제 내성과의 상관성을 비교 분석 하고자 하였다. 독소유전자중 가장 많이 분리된 seg 유전자가 59균주(58.4%)에서 검출되었으며 70균주(69.3%)에서 두개 이상의 독소 유전자가 검출되었다. 독소유전자 보유조합으로 seb, sec, seg, sei, tst가 19균주(18.8%)에서 발견되었으며 다음으로 빈번한 조합은 sec, seg, sei로 11균주(10.9%)로 나타났다. seb, sec, seg, sei, tst 동일한 독소유전자 조합을 갖고 있는 19균주(18.8%)들은 Ampicillin, Benzylpenicillin, Ciprofloxacin, Clindamycin, Gentamicin, Erythromycin, Telithromycin, Tetracycline 항생제 내성이 100% 였다. 독소유전자 보유수가 많은 균주들은 항생제 내성이 높은 상관성을 확인하였다. 향후 MRSA 균주의 내성이 확산되지 않도록 효과적인 치료와 철저한 감염관리가 선행되어야 할 것이다.

  • Потребление природного газа в Азии растет быстрыми темпами из-за различных факторов, таких как экономический рост в регионе, урбанизация, переход с угля на газ в секторах производства электроэнергии и промышленности. Из-за географических особенностей и отсутствия международных трубопроводных соединений между странами в АТР большая часть природного газа, экспортируемого азиатским потребителям, транспортируется танкерами по морю в виде сжиженного природного газа. Поскольку азиатский рынок является наиболее прибыльным рынком с самым быстрым ростом спроса, конкуренция между продавцами сжиженного природного газа (СПГ) за долю азиатского рынка усиливается. Конкуренция ускорилась, особенно после того, как на рынок были выведены большие объемы дополнительных поставок со стороны новых экспортеров из США, Австралии и России. Cheniere Energy, первый экспортер СПГ в континентальной части США, не приняла традиционный механизм ценообразования и бизнес-модель. Традиционно цены по долгосрочным контрактам на СПГ индексируются к ценам на конкурирующие виды топлива, такие как сырая нефть. Компания приняла механизм ценообразования и бизнесмодель по системе «кост-плюс». Cheniere Energy выбрала более безопасную и безрисковую систему ценообразования, которая ежегодно гарантирует продавцу фиксированную сумму дохода. Компания зарабатывает одинаковую сумму денег, независимо от динамики цен на природный газ на внутреннем и международном рынке, возможно с меньшим доходом. Investigation of thermal hydraulic behavior of the High Temperature Test Facility's lower plenum via large eddy simulation

  • A high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model for the lower plenum of the High-Temperature Test Facility (HTTF), a ¼ scale test facility of the modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor (MHTGR) managed by Oregon State University. In most next-generation nuclear reactors, thermal stress due to thermal striping is one of the risks to be curiously considered. This is also true for HTGRs, especially since the exhaust helium gas temperature is high. In order to evaluate these risks and performance, organizations in the United States led by the OECD NEA are conducting a thermal hydraulic code benchmark for HTGR, and the test facility used for this benchmark is HTTF. HTTF can perform experiments in both normal and accident situations and provide high-quality experimental data. However, it is difficult to provide sufficient data for benchmarking through experiments, and there is a problem with the reliability of CFD analysis results based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes to analyze thermal hydraulic behavior without verification. To solve this problem, high-fidelity 3-D CFD analysis was performed using the LES model for HTTF. It was also verified that the LES model can properly simulate this jet mixing phenomenon via a unit cell test that provides experimental information. As a result of CFD analysis, the lower the dependency of the sub-grid scale model, the closer to the actual analysis result. In the case of unit cell test CFD analysis and HTTF CFD analysis, the volume-averaged sub-grid scale model dependency was calculated to be 13.0% and 9.16%, respectively. As a result of HTTF analysis, quantitative data of the fluid inside the HTTF lower plenum was provided in this paper. As a result of qualitative analysis, the temperature was highest at the center of the lower plenum, while the temperature fluctuation was highest near the edge of the lower plenum wall. The power spectral density of temperature was analyzed via fast Fourier transform (FFT) for specific points on the center and side of the lower plenum. FFT results did not reveal specific frequency-dominant temperature fluctuations in the center part. It was confirmed that the temperature power spectral density (PSD) at the top increased from the center to the wake. The vortex was visualized using the well-known scalar Q-criterion, and as a result, the closer to the outlet duct, the greater the influence of the mainstream, so that the inflow jet vortex was dissipated and mixed at the top of the lower plenum. Additionally, FFT analysis was performed on the support structure near the corner of the lower plenum with large temperature fluctuations, and as a result, it was confirmed that the temperature fluctuation of the flow did not have a significant effect near the corner wall. In addition, the vortices generated from the lower plenum to the outlet duct were identified in this paper. It is considered that the quantitative and qualitative results presented in this paper will serve as reference data for the benchmark.

스크린설치높이·공기유입량 차이에 따른 벤로형 유리온실 미기상 CFD 유동해석 (CFD Analysis for Microclimate of Venlo Type Glasshouse with the Screen Height and Air-inflow Quantity)

  • 겨울철 벤로형 유리온실(W59×L68×H5.9m) 보온스크린 높이의 차이에 따른 실내온도 변화를 파악하기 위하여 00시부터 04시까지 30분 간격으로 열유동해석을 하였다. 초기에는 상대적으로 난방 외부접촉면적이 큰 보온스크린 설치높이 5.9m에서 보온스크린 설치높이 4.1m에 비해 온도감소가 빨라 낮은 온도를 나타냈으나 해석 2시간 이후부터는 상대적으로 온도감소가 느렸고 04시에는 0.6℃ 높았다. 그러나 해석시작1시간 후 실내온도가 약13℃까지 내려가고, 그 이전에 난방기가 작동해야 된다고 볼 때, 해석 2시간 동안 온도감소가 상대적으로 느렸던 보온스크린 설치높이 4.1m에서 5.1m에 비해 난방에너지 절감에 유리할 것으로 판단되었다. 토마토가 자라는 지면 2m 높이에서의 유동은 보온스크린 설치높이 5.9m에서 4.1m에 비해 상대적으로 넓고 빨랐으며 유동해석 1시간 후인 01시의 평균차이는 0.034m·s-1였다. 여름철 차광스크린 설치높이를 5.7m와 3.9m로 달리하되70%닫힘 조건에서 12시부터 13시까지는 온실하부덕트 외부공기유입량 0.67㎥·s-1 상태 그 후부터는 외부 유입공기를 3배로 증가하여 냉방효과를 비교하였다. 초기 12시부터 13시까지는 차광스크린 70%닫힘 상태에서 무차광에 비해 오히려 평균 약0.9℃ 높았지만 외부공기유입량이 증가하는 13시 이후 부터는 차광스크린 70%닫힘 조건에서 온도가 감소하였고 14시 30분에는 무차광에 비해 0.5℃ 낮았다. 차광스크린 70% 닫힘 조건에서 바닥면의 온도분포는 스크린 설치높이와 개방 정도에 비례하여 낮았으며 무차광에 비해 8℃이상 낮았다. 온실 내 상대습도는 차광스크린을 30% 개방하는 조건에서는 차광스크린의 높이나 개방정도에 따른 차이가 미미하였다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The kubelka-munk coefficient and reflection optical density were determined ar four different wavelengths(500, 550, 570 and 610nm) for blood glucose strip. For higher concentration than 300mg/41 about glucose, a saturation state of abforbance was observed at 500, 550 and 570nm. The mice were divided into two groups. One group was injected with Photofrin II, intravenously (2.5mg/kg body weight). The other group received no Photofrin II. Mice from both groups were irradialed for approximately 15 minutes at 100, 300, or 500 mW/cm2 with the argon (488nm/514.5 nm), dye(628nm) and gold vapor (pulsed 628 nm) laser light. A photosensitizer behaved as an added absorber. Under our experimental conditions, the presence of Photolfrin II increased surface temperature by at least 40% and the temperature rise due to 300 mW/cm2 irradiation exceeded values for hyperthermia. Light and temperature distributions with depth were estimated by a computer model. The model demonstrated the influence of wavelength on the thermal process and proved to be a valuable tool to investigate internal temperature rise. 30536 T00401030536 ^x We investigated the structural geometry of thirty-eight Korean femurs. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. The results suggested that the femoral component suitable for Asians should be different from the currently-used components designed and manufactured mostly by European or American companies. 30537 T00401030537 ^x It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms.
