Extra curriculum among them consists of fie grounds, that is, a self-governing, adjusting, developing, service and exercise activity. The content of developing activity among them includes academic literary arts, in that the developing activity related to science. The developing activity connected with science can be a good chance which students can have deepened learning besides a regular course. In addition, effective management in science class can play an important role to cultivate scientific sense and to raise scientific talent. The study finds out how the management connected with science-related extra-curricula activity in science is actually going on. The study carries out a questionnaire with 40 teachers and interviews 5 teachers as well who are in charge of science-related extra-curricula activity connected with science. As a result, on the side of students, ① systematic introduction course in science is not given to them, ② the course is operating without considering students interests and levels, so it causes the problems of developing their potential ability and extension. On the side of teachers, ① they organize the science department based on school's situation and policy. ② they disregard teachers' roles and interests. ③ the science department's program is operating improvisedly rather than systematically, ④ the evaluation is done formally is found out. I have come to know that to manage a desirable science-related extra-curricula activity connected with science needs to have sufficient, detailed materials and experts from outside.

  • This study aimed to identify the contributors of extra-curricular activities of preschool children focusing on home environmental factors(financial capital, human capital, and social capital) and maternal belief about factors on academic achievement(child's effort, child's ability, teacher's instruction, and maternal teaching). One hundred and seventy three mothers whose preschool children were attending child-care centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do participated in the survey. Kinlaw et al.(2001)'s Importance of Effort/Ability Scale was used to assess the mother's belief about the factors on academic achievement. Stipek et al.(1992)'s Activities Sub-scales was revised to measure a social capital, that is the mother's formal and informal activities providing to their preschool child. Educational level was utilized as human capital and monthly income was considered as financial capital. Also, using open ended questions, the subjects were asked to respond to the numbers of extra-curricula activities their child was presently attending, and when he or she began to attend the extra-curricular activity. The main results are as follows. In general, the mothers provided informal activities to their preschool child more than formal activities. Also, they believed the teacher's instruction is the most important and the child's ability the least important in their child's academic achievement. The number of extra-curricular activities was predicted by mothers' formal activities and their belief on their child's ability. The age of starting extra-curricular activities were explained by mothers' formal activities and their educational level.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting extra expenses incurred by extracurricular activities, prompted by the problem that the financial burden on households for their children's education and child-care is not showing enough signs of being mitigated, despite increased child-care subsidies from the government. Data for this study was obtained from the 4th Panel Study on Korean Children of Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. The analysis of the study shows that 68.5% of the surveyed children were participating in extracurricular activities and the average number of extracurricular activities they took part in was 2.9. The average extracurricular expenditure was 50.000 won. However, based on the findings of the survey, it was statistically significant to find that the number of extracurricular activities the children participated in and the expenditure the households spent on them varied by area. Variables were inserted in a gradual manner in identifying factors influencing households' expenditure on children's extracurricular activities. The results showed that amongst the variables used, the education level of the mother, the employment status of the mother, the type of the child-care support institution, and the household's place of residence featured prominently, with the place-of-residence factor accounting for most of the reason why a household spent the amount it did. The outcome of the study bears four policy implications: First, there is a need for a specific evaluation of the contents and costs of extracurricular activities and supervision and management of such activities. Second, it is necessary for the central government to provide a specific criteria of necessary expense. Third, throughout the child support agency, the courses and costs of special activities should be monitored regularly. Fourth, there should be extracurricular activity support for underprivileged children.

  • School activities which are opened after-school or during a vacation have been social issues as our society is nuclearized and both parents are working, so that elementary school students and middle school students are less taken care of and less concerned by their parents. It is regrettable that students are spending too much time on private academies in the situation where they cannot help but staying alone after school and where frantic fever of private education pervades their lives. For the sake of those students, the Ministry of Education announced, "Each school can open its after-school programs or vacation programs based on students and their parents' demands making it a rule of a student's voluntary participation. After school programs for elementary and middle school students are operated by local communities providing extra courses or programs in addition to regular classes. Those programs are paid by participants or supported by financial aids in order to decrease parents' burdens of costs of private education and to reduce educational gaps between rich and poor children or between the regions. After school programs are either curricular or non-curricular educational activities with students' voluntary participation, and the programs are meant to supplement and strengthen the role of public school education. Non-curricular courses that consist of various programs, in particular, are receiving good reputations by students and parents. Therefore, this study develops and operates "children's making D.I.Y. furniture" program that is one of non-curricular courses and an activity-oriented art program for children to improve their designing creativity and to help them experience their future jobs in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the program using survey and assessment methods and to find out a developmental direction focused on future-oriented and specialized educational programs for children.

  • The Air and Correspondence High School (ACHS) has played a key role as an organization of lifelong learning since 1974. However, extra-curriculum in ACHS has not been operated successfully due to lacks of educational supports and on-line contents. So we surveyed demands of the ACHS teachers and students for successful operation of extra-curriculum, found four subjects that students preferred in the developing activity area which is one of extra-curricular activities, and experimentally developed four on-line contents for extra-curriculum. And we also applied the developed on-line contents to the students of Chongju H.S. After the application, another survey and interview were carried out to measure learner's satisfaction, find out problems of learning with on-line contents and suggest the ways of improving extra-curriculum learning system.
