  • A new type of extended element-free Galerkin method (XFEM) is proposed on this paper. The blending region which was inevitable in the extended finite element method and the extended meshfree method is removed in this method. For this end, two different techniques are developed. The first one is the modification of the domain of influence so that the crack tip is always placed on the edge of a domain of influence. The second method is the use of the Lagrange multiplier. The crack is virtually extended beyond the actual crack tip. The virtual extension was forced close by the Lagrange multiplier. The first method can be applied to two dimensional problems only Lagrange multiplier method can be used in both two and three dimensions.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the predictive behaviors of the extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Grid dependency is tested with the H-type grid and the O-type grid. Computations have been performed for a circular-to-rectangular transition duct. Numerical results for several sections along the streamwise have been obtained to compare with experimental results. The Reynolds number is 390,000 based on the bulk velocity at the inlet. The computed axial velocity contours, transverse velocity profiles, static pressure contours, peripheral skin friction coefficient, and peripheral wall static pressure distributions have been compared with experimental results. The computed results obtained with the extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model show better agreement with experimental results than those obtained with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Comparing to the computed results obtained with the H-type grid and O-type grid, those with H-type grid agree well with experimental results.

  • In this paper, we focus on establishing the MacWilliams-type identities on vectorial Boolean functions with bent component functions. As their applications, we provide a bound for the non-existence of vectorial dual-bent functions with prescribed minimum degree, and several Gleason-type theorems are presented as well.

  • Type-1 fuzzy set is used to show the uncertainty in a given value. But there are many situations where it needs to be extended to type-2 fuzzy set because it can be also difficult to determine the crisp membership function itself. Type-2 fuzzy systems have the advantage that they are more expressive and powerful than type-1 fuzzy systems, but they require many operations defined for type-1 fuzzy sets need to be extended in the domain of type-2 fuzzy sets. In this paper, comparison and ranking methods for type-2 fuzzy sets are proposed. It is based on the satisfaction function that produces the comparison results considering the actual values of the given type-2 fuzzy sets with their possibilities. Some properties of the proposed method are also analyzed.

  • The first result of this paper is to give a revised proof of Sanatammappa et al.'s recent result in a b-metric space, under appropriate choice of constants without using the continuity of the b-metric. The second is to prove a fixed point theorem under a contraction type condition in an extended b-metric space.

  • In this paper, we have fabricated on extended-gate field effect transistor (EGFET)-type protein sensor for the application to a CRP detection. We used the self-assembled monolayer (SAM) to adhere or entrap biomolecules, namely CRP antibodies. The experimental result shows that the proposed SAM is well immobilized on the gold gate surface. So the drain current was varied by antigen-antibody interactions on the gate surface because of the CRP charge. Experimental results related to the formation of SAM, antibody, antigen were obtained by measuring the electrical characteristics of the EGFET device.

  • This paper proposes an effective SLAM based on redundant extended Kalman filter for robot navigation in an irregular surface to enhance the accuracy of robot's pose. To establish an accurate model of a caterpillar type robot is very difficult due to the mechanical complexity of the system which results in highly nonlinear behavior. In addition, for robot navigation on an irregular surface, its control suffers from the uncertain pose of the robot heading closely related to the condition of the floor. We show how this problem can be overcome by the proposed approach based on redundant extended Kalman filter through some computer simulation results.

  • High current behaviors of the grounded gate extended drain N-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field effects transistor (GG_EDNMOS) electro-static discharge (ESD) protection devices are analyzed. Simulation based contour analyses reveal that combination of BJT operation and deep electron channeling induced by high electron injection gives rise to the 2-nd on-state. Thus, the deep electron channel formation needs to be prevented in order to realize stable and robust ESD protection performance. Based on our analyses, general methodology to avoid the double snapback and to realize stable ESD protection is to be discussed.

  • This study is experimental research for the effect of gap at the end plate on the performance of extended end-plate type splice. For this research, simple beam type specimens by using extended end-plate type splice are planned. Main variables are the initial gap between end-plates, the installation of finger shim plate before the installation of high tension bolts, the final gap between end-plates, and the installation of finger shim plate after the installation of high tension bolts. The static loading tests results show that the maximum bending strength of splice is not dependent on the gap, but the vertical displacement, initial stiffness and elastic stiffness are affected by the gap. In addition to that, the possibility of brittle fracture is increased when the torque of high tension bolt is used to control the gap. Thus, careful consideration is needed in this case.

  • This paper proposes a robust method for mapping of a caterpillar-type mobile robot which inherently has uncertainty in its modeling by compensating for the estimated pose error of the robot. In general, a caterpillar type robot is difficult to model, which results in inaccuracy in Simultaneous Localization And Mapping(SLAM). To enhance the robustness of the SLAM for a caterpillar-type mobile robot, we factorize the SLAM posterior, where we used particle filter to estimate the position of the robot and Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) to map the environment. The simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for mapping.
