Methods: The participants were 138 nursing students who have experience in clinical practice. The Korean version of ESQ-NS (KESQ-NS) was examined using content validity, construct validity, criterion-related validity, and testing of internal consistency reliability. Data were collected from November to December of 2019 through an online-survey. Results: The KESQ-NS that was composed of 13 items was divided into three dimensions: Critical understanding of the patient, patient holistic care, patient privacy, and confidentiality. The instrument explained 67.9% of the total variance for ethical sensitivity. Cronbach's α was .88. Conclusion: The KESQ-NS showed good validity and reliability. This instrument can be used to evaluate ethical sensitivity in nursing students in Korea.

  • Purpose: This descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to examine the influence of nurses' moral sensitivity and ethical values on their biomedical ethics awareness. Methods: The study participants included 140 registered nurses working at three hospitals in Jeollabuk-do Province over six months. The data were collected from June 22 to July 3, 2020, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with the IBM SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: As a result of an analysis using stepwise multiple regression, nurses' biomedical ethics awareness was found to be significantly influenced by ethical values (β=.36, p<.001), moral sensitivity (β=.21, p=.007), and education in biomedical ethics (β=.16, p=.042) (adjusted R2=.21, p<.001). Conclusion: These findings suggest that moral sensitivity and ethical values are key factors in hospital nurses' development of biomedical ethics. Furthermore, the devising and implementing of a practical education program based on practical cases in medical situations to enhance nurses' biomedical ethics awareness is needed.

  • This study was conducted in order to examine how ethical climate, ethical sensitivity, and moral distress influence social workers' job satisfaction, burnout, and turnover intention. First, social workers' perception of ethical climate in their organization enhanced job satisfaction and lowered turnover intention, but its association with burnout was not statistically significant. Second, ethical sensitivity was found to have a positive effect on job satisfaction, and to increase burnout and turnover intention. Third, moral distress, which is induced by social workers' direct experiences, was found to lower job satisfaction and increase burnout and turnover intention.

  • This Study explores and describes the present status and effects of Korean social work ethic course , reflecting increasing concerns about social worker's ethics. Using the member list of the Council of Korean Social Welfare Education, this study first examines the extent to which the ethic course is established and how the course is managed. Then, for the purpose of investigating the practical effects of the enrollment in the ethic course, using the test scores designed to measure the students' sensitivity to ethical issues, this study compared test scores between students who attended the course and those who did not. This study also compared pre-post test scores of students who attended the course. The results show that enrollment in the course contributes to significant changes in the students' ethical sensitivities, in spite of social work education system that does not very yet empathize the ethics curriculum very strongly. Further, enrollment in the ethic course is proved to be a more powerful factor to ethical sensitivity than any other demographic or education related factors. These findings suggest a stronger emphasis abd serious consideration of the course, as well as more efforts to bring up professionals and invest in research in the field of social work ethic education.

The program's effect was verified using paired t-test. The results of this study are as follows: after the ethical dilemma discussion program, the experimental group's human rights sensitivity(t=-2.32, p=.025), and ethical value(t=-2.43, p=.020) were higher than the control group. • Background: This study evaluated the learning outcomes of dental hygiene students' ethical consciousness and ethical decision-making competence through dental ethics courses conducted in some universities. Methods: The subjects were 35 and 29 fourth-year dental hygiene students at G University in the first semester of 2021 and 2022, respectively, and 53 and 43 third-year dental hygiene students at D University, respectively, for a total of 160 students. After implementing the dental hygiene ethics course, classroom performance was evaluated in terms of moral sensitivity, confidence in making ethical decisions, classroom practicality, learning outcomes, and class satisfaction. Statistical analysis was conducted using independent t-test and paired t-test, and the statistical significance level was 0.05. Results: Both universities reported an increase in moral sensitivity and confidence in ethical decision-making after the course (p<0.001). Classroom practicality and class satisfaction for the dental hygiene ethics course did not differ between disciplines and were rated positively with a score of 4 or higher (p>0.05). Learning outcomes were higher among 4-year students than 3-year students (p<0.001). Conclusions: It was evaluated that the ethics in dental hygiene curriculum can strengthen students' competence in ethical decision-making, including moral sensitivity and confidence in solving ethical problems in dental hygiene.

  • Purpose: The study examined the effects of ethical sensitivity and person-environment fit on person-centered care of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 111 nurses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS program. Results: The mean of person-centered care was 2.95±0.62 out of 5. There were significant differences in person-centered care in terms of age, shift pattern, total clinical career, and educational experience of person-centered care. Person-centered care and ethical sensitivity, person-centered care and person-environment fit showed a positive correlation. Factors affecting the person-centered care were the age (20-29), shift pattern (three shift), person-environment fit. The explanatory power was 42%. Conclusion: These results can be used to increase the person-environment fit and adopt a differented approach based on age and shift pattern in order to enhance person-centered care. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply an person-centered care program for nurses in long-term care hospitals.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the level of the moral distress for nurses working in long-term care hospitals or nursing homes, and identify factors that influence the moral distress. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires including the Korean version of Moral Distress Scale-Revised (KMDS-R), Jefferson Empathy Scale for Health professionals (K-JSE-HP), Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire (K-MSQ), and the Hospital Ethical Climate Survey (HECS). A total of 194 nurses from 11 long-term care hospitals or 27 nursing homes completed the structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. As results, the mean score for moral distress was $73.81{\pm}51.29$ in this study. The moral distress of nurses working at nursing homes was higher than that of nurses working in long-term care hospitals. Among the sub-factors of moral distress, the 'futile care' was the highest score and the 'limit to claim the ethical issue' was the lowest. The main factor affecting moral distress among nurses in this study was the ethical climate of organization. In this paper, we propose that in order to effectively reduce the moral distress of nurses working in a long-term care hospital or a nursing home, it is more impactful to address structural issues related to the caregiver workplace than to adjust individual factors.

The nursing student's ethical competence results in nursing professionalism, satisfaction with nursing, and patient safety. The results of the analysis establish a basis for an instrument to evaluate nursing student's ethical competence. This will guide educators, as well as managers in healthcare, to develop an education program for improvement nursing student's ethical competence.
