  • This paper reviews the pivotal phases of the evolution of the current technology-dependent nuclear power safety regulation in the United States. Understanding of this evolution is essential to the development of any future regulatory paradigm, including the technology-neutral regulatory approach that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has recently embarked on to develop. The paper proposes and examines the implications of a predominately rationalist and best-estimate probabilistic regulatory framework called safety goals-driven performance-based regulation. This framework relies on continuous assessment of performance of a set of time-dependent safety-critical systems, structures and components that assure attainment of a broad set of technology-neutral protective, mitigative, and preventive goals. Finally, the paper discusses the steps needed to develop a corresponding technology-neutral regulatory system from the proposed framework.

  • In the last few years, The Semantic Web has increased the interest in ontologies. Ontology is an essential component of the semantic web. Ontologies continue to change and evolve. We consider the management of versions in ontology. We study a set of changes based on domain changes, changes in conceptualization, metadata changes, and temporal dimension. In many cases, we want to be able to search in historical versions, query changes in versions, retrieve versions on the temporal dimension. In order to support an ontology query language that supports temporal operations, we consider temporal dimension includes transaction time and valid time. Ontology versioning brings about massive amount of versions to be stored and maintained. We present the storage policies that are storing all the versions, all the sequence of changed element, all the change sets, the aggregation of change sets periodically, and the aggregation of change sets using a criterion. We conduct a set of experiments to compare the performance of each storage policies. We present the experimental results for evaluating the performance of different storage policies from scheme 1 to scheme 5.

  • For the design of human-centered systems in which a human and machine such as a robot form a human-in system, human-friendly interaction/interface is essential. Human-friendly interaction is possible when the system is capable of recognizing human biosigns such as5 EMG Signal, hand gesture and facial expressions so the some humanintention and/or emotion can be inferred and is used as a proper feedback signal. In the talk, we report our experiences of applying the Soft computing techniques including Fuzzy, ANN, GA and rho rough set theory for efficiently recognizing various biosigns and for effective inference. More specifically, we first observe characteristics of various forms of biosigns and propose a new way of extracting feature set for such signals. Then we show a standardized procedure of getting an inferred intention or emotion from the signals. Finally, we present examples of application for our model of rehabilitation robot named.

  • The preliminary, advanced and final evaluation of R&D project is essential in order to reduce loss of resource and opportunity and to minimize uncertainty resulting from optimal selection and efficient progress of R&D project. This thesis examined characteristics of deterministic evaluation, economical evaluation, and OR-approach evaluation as theoretical methodology of evaluation of R&D project applicable to food industry in Korea by using scoring method, one of deterministic evaluations. In addition, this thesis divided the evaluation factors for preliminary evaluation of R&D project into 5 groups and 30 factors on basis of the environment of domestic companies and set up the standard of each evaluation factors and contains marking-selecting way. But, generally, the evaluation model by this thesis, as the conditions of the business company environment are different to each other, contents to be set up evaluation factors, evaluation standard and decision method conforming to each the environment of the business companies with referring to as one standard of evaluation project for selecting R&D project.

  • Image enhancement is a necessary end essential step after taking a picture with a digital camera. Many different photo software packages attempt to automate this process with various auto enhancement techniques. This paper provides and implements a system that can learn a user's preferences and apply the preferences into the process of image enhancement. Five major components are applied to the implemented system, which are computing a distance metric, finding a training set, finding an optimal parameter set, training and finally enhancing the input image. To estimate the validity of the method, we carried out user studies, and the fact that the implemented system was preferred over the method without learning user preferences.

  • Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) are capable of modelling information with more uncertainties in decision-making problems. The essential feature of PFSs is that they are described by three parameters: membership function, non-membership function and hesitant margin, with the total of the squares of each parameter equal to one. The purpose of this article is to suggest some new similarity measures and weighted similarity measures for PFSs. Numerical computations have been carried out to validate our proposed measures. Applications of these measures have been applied to some real-life decision-making problems of pattern detection and medicinal investigations. Moreover, a descriptive illustration is employed to compare the results of the proposed measures with the existing analogous similarity measures to show their effectiveness.

  • We study the compact intertwining relations for composition operators, whose intertwining operators are Volterra type operators from the weighted Bergman spaces to the weighted Bloch spaces in the unit disk. As consequences, we find a new connection between the weighted Bergman spaces and little weighted Bloch spaces through this relations.

  • Matching two images is an essential step for many computer vision applications. A new approach to the scale and rotation invariant scene matching is presented. A set of andidate parameters are hypthesized by mapping the angular difference and a new distance measure to the hough space and by detecting maximally consistent points. The proposed method is shown to be much faster than the conventinal one where the relaxation process is repeated until convergence, while providing robust matching performance, without a priori information on the geometrical transformation parameters.

  • In this paper, some automatic inspection algorithms for LCD module are suggested. Human eyes are very good for the inspection in many industrial areas. However, very bright LCD back lighting may cause permanent damage to the human eyes. Also, the growing size of the LCD make it more difficult for the human inspectors. Therefore, using camera set, automatic inspection process becomes very essential for the future LCD industry.
