  • Consumer capitalism is transforming real geographical knowledge into imaginary one through commodity fetishism. As a result, students' ability to think themselves and commodity relationally become weak. Thus, the students cannot recognize the positional meanings of themselves in the global networks of food and ethically perceive environmental issues that generate due to the interrelation between the students and the commodity networks. In these problematic consciousness and situations, this research examine relation of commodity consumption and ethics through hamburger connection and insists that geographical education helps the students acquire insight into the relationship between food and themselves through relational thinking.

  • Objective: This study aimed to reveal early childhood teachers' perceptions of teacher competency for ESD using concept mapping and demonstrating its importance. Methods: 16 early childhood teachers in charge of 3-5 year olds conducted statement writing, and then the importance of selected statements were rated by 160 early childhood teachers in charge of 3-5 year olds. Selected statements were analyzed through multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. Results: Early childhood teachers perceived teacher competency for ESD in early childhood as concept mapping with two-dimensions and six clusters. The following six clusters were established (1) ethics for sustainable development, (2) willingness to participate in ESD, (3) development and operation of a sustainable development curriculum, (4) recognition and practice of environmental issues, (5) realization of value for sustainable development, and (6) practical thinking for ESD. And then among the six clusters, the most important cluster was recognized as 'ethics for sustainable development', and among the statements 'having an open mind to understand multiculturalism and the disabled' was considered relatively important Conclusion/Implications: Based on these results, we discussed the importance of teacher competency for ESD in early childhood, development of teacher competency scale, and preparation of a teacher education plans for each competency.

  • This is a comparative study on environmental education curricula in the forest sciences of korean and german universities. The purpose of this study is to identify the developmental process, structure and content of environmental education(EE) explained by the forest sciences curricula from the two countries and to offer a simultaneous comparison, focusing on the four social variables and seven criteria of comparability in environmental education curricula. For the purpose of this study, the cross-disciplinary approach of George Z. F Bereday was employed. Environmental education curricula of two countries was analysed in the social context through the four phases of comparative procedure; the description, interpretation, juxtaposition and comparison. EE has been taught in the forest sciences of Korea and Germany since the middle 1990s. In forest sciences of two countries, EE was developed in relation to social needs and considered as a form of forest policy. Both korean and german forest sciences curricula include EE for the students to understand the theories and practices of EE as the application of the forest science. In process of EE, the students of two countries develop EE programs. German curricula have more seminars and practices than korean curricula. And various experts participate in education programs. The forest sciences of Korea focus on Environmental Interpretation which raises the quality of visitors' experiences in forest recreation. Contacting with nature(lived experiences) is a important factor in Korean EE. On the other hand, the forest sciences of Germany focus on forest education as a form of public relations and also as a form of EE. In Germany, there are various approaches to forest education; philosophy, ethics, psychology, natural science, forest policy, forest history, education and so on. Forest education includes the multiple levels.

The main cause of environmental pollution is abuse of fossil fuels which emit carbon dioxide and are causing various problems including global worming. Green IT becomes popular as a method to reduce environmental pollution as well as a method to develop IT industry. The purpose of this paper is to develop education contents of green IT for elementary school students. For this purpose, extensive literature review works have been searched and analysed. In this paper, education contents of green IT are developed for three categories, knowledge, application, and ethics. In order to verify the validity of practical guidelines in application category, 55 elementary school teachers are randomly selected and their responses are gathered and analyzed through thorough statistical work. We expect that the proposed education contents will be guidelines for future green IT education.

The questionnaire included 28 items, which could be categorized 5 parts : the environmental consciousness of teachers, their awareness of environmental education in schools, the reason of participation, the limits and requirements of learning field, avalible teaching and learning methods. The improvements and suggestions derived from this study are summarized as follows: First, it is necessary to differentiate in-service training concerning environment, because the motive of teacher's participation is diverse and is not always suitable to the purpose of certificate in-service training for [Environment] subjects. Second, the teaching contents and programs of certificate in-service training for [Environment] subjects have to be various according to the characteristics and major subjects of teachers. Third, it deserves special emphasis that the field trips and survey for the experiential study in field is supplemented in the teaching contents and programs of certificate in-service training for [Environment] subjects. Also, it is necessary to strengthen the environmental ethics and philosophy in the teaching contents and programs.

  • It is widely accepted that one of the purposes of education in landscape architecture is to train students as experts for professional practice. But graduates rarely get positive evaluation from the professional practice in landscape architecture regarding their capability in real environments. Recently the international accreditation system for architectural education is introduced, and it requires a considerably high degree of education enhancing practical capability of students as practitioner. In this context, this study aims to seek an effective educational method for enhancing practical practice capability of students in landscape architectural design education by using the analysis method employed architectural educations in Korea in measuring student performance criteria. The results of the study suggest international education standard of environmental design course emphasizes the ingenuity of individuals. And integrating the knowledges of diverse fields into education system is necessity. Nowadays, handing over the hard skills emphasized in the past is changing toward fostering soft skills. As a conclusion, educational contents which satisfy the established objects are mostly composed of soft skills such as communication techniques, collectional capability of informations, personal relationships and vocational ethics etc.
