  • The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of periodontal therapy, including nonsurgical periodontal therapy with azithromycin, surgical therapy, and maintenace therapy on the drug-induced gingival enlargement, by means of measuring gingival thickness. The test group of 18 patients with drug-induced gingival enlargement received scaling, root planing with azithromycin for 5 days, with or without surgical periodontal treatment. The control group of 18 patients who had not taken any medication, received scaling and root planing, with or without surgical periodontal treatment. Both groups received supportive periodontal therapy every 3 months for 2 years. The mean period of total treatment is 32 months in the test group and 31 months in the control group. The thickness of the buccal gingiva was measured using an ultrasonic device of $SDM^{(R)}$(Krupp Corp., Essen, Germany). The results revealed that the test $group(1.21{\pm}0.51mm)$ showed statistically thicker buccal gingiva than the control $group(1.01{\pm}0.3mm)$. In the test group, the buccal gingiva was thickest on 2nd molars and was thinnest on canines of both dental arches. In the control group, the buccal gingiva was thickest on central incisors in the maxilla and 2nd molars in the mandible, while the thinnest areas were on canines in the maxilla and 1st premolars in the mandible. It would be concluded that the periodontal treatment with azithromycin aids in decreasing the degree of the gingival enlargement but cannot prevent the recurrence completely.

  • It is necessary to understand the characteristics of each type of division problems in other to help students develop a rich understanding when they learn each type of division problems. This study focuses on a specific type of division problems; a quotitive division as finding a scale factor in enlargement context. First, this study investigated via survey how 4th-6th graders and preservice and inservice elementary teachers solved a quotitive division relating to scaling problem. And semi-structured interviews with preservice and inservice elementary teachers were conducted to explore what knowledge they brought when they tried to solve enlargement quotitive division problems. Most of participants solved the given quotitive division problem in the same way. Only a few preservice and inservice teachers interpreted it as a proportion problem and solved in a different way. From the interviews, it was found that different conceptions of context and decontextualization, and different conceptions of times (as repeated addition or as a multiplicative operator) were connected to different solutions. Finally, three issues relating to teaching enlargement quotitive division were discussed; visual representation of two solutions, conceptions connected each solution, and integrating quotitive division and proportion in math textbooks.

  • In this paper, we discuss the problem of non-mutual detectability using the invariant zero. We propose a representation method for excess spaces by linear equation based on the Rosenbrock system matrix. As an alternative to the system enlargement method proposed by White[1], we propose an appropriate form of an enlarged system to make a set of faults mutually detectable by assigning sufficient geometric multiplicity of invariant zeros. We show the equivalence between the two methods and a necessary condition for the system enlargement in terms of the geometric and algebraic multiplicities of invariant zeros.

  • The empirical factor and reaction force based on published data were involved to investigate compressible flows through sudden enlargement and sudden contraction passages. Analytical solutions of engineering interest were obtained from one-dimensional steady compressible gas dynamic equations. The effects of compressibility, cross-sectional area ratio, and inlet Mach number on the air flows were discussed with regards to the total pressure loss and flow choking. The present results provide available information necessary ta design the compressible pipe flow systems.

  • A 17-month-old intact male Cocker Spaniel was presented with primary complaints of severe ascites, exercise intolerance, and diarrhea. Diagnostic studies revealed tricuspid and pulmonic regurgitation on phonocardiogram, right ventricular enlargement on the electrocardiogram, typical right cardiac enlargement signs on the thoracic radiography and tricuspid valve malformation and marked enlargement of the right atrium and right ventricle on the echocardiography and tricuspid and pulmonary regurgitation on the color spectral echocardiography, suggesting tricuspid valve dysplasia and pulmonary hypertension. Using angiography and cardiac catheterization, pulmonary hypertension was ruled out. Further echocardiographic study revealed membranous valvular structures cranial to pulmonary annulus causing pulmonary regurgitation. Based on these findings on the diagnostic investigation, the case was diagnosed as tricuspid valve dysplasia complicated with pulmonic regurgitation. The dog was medically managed with furosemide, enalapril, nitroglycerine transdermal patch and pimobendan after the ascitic fluid removal.

  • In this article we study on didactic transposition and enlargement of the Ceva theorem(if three cevians AX, BY, CZ, one through each vertex of a triangle ABC, are concurrent, then $\frac{BX}{XC}\frac{CY}{YA}\frac{AZ}{ZB}$ = 1). We suggest inverse of the Ceva theorem, some different forms of the Ceva theorem(oriented segment form, trigonometric form, vector form), enlarged the Ceva theorem of polygon and tetrahedron, and in detail propose these proofs.

  • Sediment yields from the reservoir watershed areas and raising of the spillway crest for the agricultural reservoir capacity enlargement were investigated and analysed through the 21 pilot reservoirs, have irrigated areas 200has. and over in the Kyoungpook province. In these studies, (1), the correlation analysis between various watershed characteristics and annual specific sediment yields were derived and (2), the excess effective reservoir capacity of the over 0.5m above the spillway crest could be estimated. In brief, catchment area should strongly be correlated with the annual specific sediment yields (R=0.90), the other side, average slope of the main stream is less than catchment area. The excess effective capacity of reservoir enlargement by the raising of spillway crest at 0.5m-height was resulted 12.1% of increasing capacity compare with the original reservoir capacity.

  • The performance of an OLED(organic luminescent emitting device) fabrication system strongly depends on the design of the evaporation cell-source. Trends in display sizes have hauled the enlargement of mother glass substrates. The enlargement of substrates requires the improvement and the enlargement of the effusion cell-source for OLED evaporation process. The deposited layers should be as uniform as possible, and therefore it is important to know the effusion profile of the molecules emitted from the cell-source. Conventional 2D DSMC algorithm cannot be used for simulating the new concept cell-source design, such as a linear source. This work concerns the development of 3D DSMC (direct simulation Monte Carlo) analysis for simulating the behavior of the evaporation cell-sources. In this paper, the 3D DSMC algorithm was developed and the film thickness profiles were obtained by the numerical analysis.

  • Purpose: Systemic disease can manifest oral signs at an early phase, which may be crucial for the diagnosis and timing of treatment. This report describes two patients who presented with gingival enlargement as an early sign of acute leukemia. Methods: Two patients presented with oral symptoms including severe gingival enlargement. The progress of their symptoms was associated with underlying systemic disease. Results: The patients were transferred to the Department of Hematology and diagnosed with acute myelomonocytic leukemia. They received appropriate treatment and survived. Conclusions: Gingival enlargement can be caused by underlying systemic diseases. Accurate diagnosis and timely referral are important for preventing a fatal situation. It must be emphasized that some oral signs and symptoms may be closely correlated with systemic diseases.

  • Generalized gingival enlargement, also known as gingival hyperplasia or hypertrophy, is defined as an abnormal diffuse overgrowth of gingival tissues. There are several causes of generalized gingival enlargement and they can be grouped into four categories: hereditary gingival fibromatosis, medication-induced, inflammatory, and systemic or neoplastic causes of gingival enlargement. This paper reviews the clinical features, differential diagnosis and significance of generalized gingival enlargements.
