  • In printed electronics, printing rolls are used to transfer electronic ink onto a flexible substrate. Generally printing rolls are patterned in microscale by the indirect laser method. Since based on the wet etch process, the indirect method is neither environment-friendly nor suitable for making a printing roll with patterns narrower than $20{\mu}m$. In this paper, we have directly engraved micro-patterns into a Zn-coated metal specimens using a picosecond laser in order both to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns and to improve the pattern profile. Experiments showed that it is possible to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns with an a rectangular-shaped profile which is necessary for the dimensionally accurate printing.

GFRP/Al 복합재료의 접합부 레이저 패턴이 계면인성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Bonding Surface Laser Patterns on Interfacial Toughness of GFRP/Al Composite)

  • Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) and polymer matrix composites (PMCs) are formed in various ways. In particular, FMLs in which aluminum is laminated as a reinforced layer are widely used. Also, glass fiber-reinforced plastics (GFRPs) are generally applied as fiber laminates. The bonding interface layer between the aluminum and fiber laminate exhibits low strength when subjected to hot press fabrication in the event of delamination fracture at the interface. This study presents a simple method for strengthening the interface bonding between the aluminum metal and GFRP layer of FML composites. The surfaces of the aluminum interface layer are engraved with three kinds of patterns by using the laser machine before the hot press works. Furthermore, the effect of the laser patterns on the interfacial toughness is investigated. The interfacial toughness was evaluated by the energy release rate (G) using an asymmetric double cantilever bending specimen (ADCB). From the experimental results, it was shown that the strip type pattern (STP) has the most proper pattern shape in GFRP/Al FML composites. Therefore, this will be considered a useful method for the safety assessment of FML composite structures.

빌드업 필름의 선폭 6㎛급 패턴 가공을 위한 직접식 UV 레이저 프로젝션 애블레이션 (Direct UV laser projection ablation to engrave 6㎛-wide patterns in a buildup film)

  • To directly engrave circuit-line patterns as wide as $6{\mu}m$ in a buildup film to be used as an IC substrate, we applied a projection ablation technique in which an 8 inch dielectric ($ZrO_2/SiO_2$) mask, a DPSS 355nm laser instead of an excimer laser, a ${\pi}$-shaper and a galvo scanner are used. With the ${\pi}$-shaper and a square aperture, the Gaussian beam from the laser is shaped into a square flap-top beam. The galvo scanner before the $f-{\theta}$ lens moves the flat-top beam ($115{\mu}m{\times}105{\mu}m$) across the 8 inch dielectric mask whose patterned area is $120mm{\times}120mm$. Based on the results of the previous research by the authors, the projection ratio was set at 3:1. Experiments showed that the average width and depth of the engraved patterns are $5.41{\mu}m$ and $7.30{\mu}m$, respectively.

나노초 UV 레이저 응용 IC 기판 소재 조성별 가공 특성 (Characteristics of direct laser micromachining of IC substrates using a nanosecond UV laser)

  • Dimensions (line/space) of circuits in IC substrates for high-end chips (e.g. CPU, etc.) are anticipated to decrease as small as $10{\mu}m/10{\mu}m$ in 2014. Since current etch-based circuit-patterning processes are not able to address the urgent requirement from industry, laser-based circuit patterning processes are under active research in which UV laser is used to engrave embedded circuits patterns into IC substrates. In this paper, we used a nanosecond UV laser to directly fabricate embedded circuit patterns into IC substrates with/without ceramic powders. In experiments, we engraved embedded circuit patterns with dimensions (width/depth) of abut $10{\mu}m/10{\mu}m$ and $6{\mu}m/6{\mu}m$ into the IC substrates. Due to the recoil pressure occurring during ablation, the circuit patterning of the IC substrates with ceramic powders showed the higher ablation rate.

금동당초문과대의 제작기법 연구 (The Production Techniques of a Gilt-Bronze Buckle with Arabesque Design)

  • 고려시대에 제작된 것으로 추정되는 금동과대의 제작기법을 규명하였다. 도금층은 형광X선 분석기를 이용한 mapping 결과, 아말감 기법에 의해 만들어지고, EDS 성분분석 결과 도금층은 금 뿐만 아니라 구리를 포함하고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 과대 뒷면에 고착된 섬유는 미세구조 관찰 결과 대마로 판별되었으며 그 직조방식은 나직이었다. 시문에 사용된 정은 삼각형 정과 반원형 정이고, 삼각형 정으로 문양의 테두리를 두른 후, 반원형 정으로 마무리를 지었다. 정의 시문철차를 조사하고 그 형상에 대해서 추정을 하였다.

  • The present study covers the ultrasonic patterning process to replicate micro-patterns on a polymer substrate. The ultrasonic patterning process uses ultrasonic waves to generate frictional heat between an ultrasonic horn and the polymer substrate, from which the surface region of the polymer substrate is softened sufficiently for the replication of micro-patterns. The ultrasonic patterning process can divided into two categories according to the direction of vibration transmission: direct patterning and indirect patterning. The direct patterning uses a patterned horn, and the ultrasonic vibration is transferred directly from the patterned horn to the substrate. On the contrary, the indirect patterning process uses a plain horn, and the micro-patterns are engraved on a mold that is located below the substrate. Thus, the micro-patterns are replicated as an indirect manner. In this study, these direct and indirect patterning processes are compared in terms of the replication characteristics. Additionally, the possibility of double-side patterning is also discussed in comparison with the conventional single-side patterning process.

Meanwhile, on the basis of a practical item, the largest issue was the consumption of cultural products by maximizing the economic benefit of the community and at the same time a symbol of cultural heritage items have been transformed into the effectiveness of the national image enhancement is expected to be achieved.

Simulation Study on the Optimization of Hybrid Light Guide Plates for Edge-lit Backlight Applications

  • The ray-tracing technique was used to optimize the light guide plate for the purpose of improving the on-axis luminance on the edge-lit backlights. One-dimensional prisms and engraved V-shaped patterns were applied to the upper and the lower surfaces of the light guide plate, respectively. By optimizing the apex angles of these micro-structures, as well as the shape of the reverseprism film put over the light guide plate, highly-collimated light-output distribution could be obtained on the backlight, which may contribute to the development of mobile LCD's with low power consumption.

(구)충남도청사 본관 문양 도안의 상징성 연구 (A Study on the Symbolic Meaning of Pattern Design on the Main Building of Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the symbolic meaning of pattern designs attached on the main building of Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government (CPG). While most of researches mainly focused on the value and evaulation of the CPG building in terms of architectural history, relatively little insight has been gained on the symbolic meaning and mature of the pattern designs. What king of connections are related between the emblem of Governor-General of Chosun(Korea) and those of CPG? What symbolic meanings are engraved on the pattern designs? The researcher then took up the task of elucidating symbolic meanings of patterns and their relation to the building. The existing pattern of the outer wall of the CPG building consists of the symbol of sun(太陽輪), mums(菊花輪), and angle of stairs(雁大角). According to the Japanese Studies of emblems, these visual elements symbolize 'the sun of Japan'((日の丸) or 'the emperor', 'the royal family', and 'rays of the sun'. Based on these preliminary findings, the researcher considered the following in-depth connections: (1) relations with the emblem of Governor-General of Chosun, (2) relations with the emblems of local autonomous entity, Kyoungsung in Chosun. (3) relations with the emblem designs of the local provinces in Japan etc. In conclusion, patterns of the main building were not just an architectural decoration, but they had significant meanings utilizing design elements and methods adopted by local autonomous entities in Japan, The patterns found at the ceilling and floor of hall in the CPG building were associated with the emblem of Governor-General of Chosun. Therefore, all the patterns of the CPG building are powerful symbols that have meanings for the colonial rule by using the shape and method of city identities that Japanese local provinces had enacted. That is, it came out into the open that they were designed for special meanings that Korean and Japanese are united as a single body(內鮮一體) for a subject of the Emperor of Japan(皇國臣民).

디지털 기술을 이용한 유물의 문양표현 방법에 대한 연구 (Study on the Artifact pattern representation of a method using digital technology)

  • 디지털 기술을 이용한 유물의 문양표현 방법은 크게 디지털 탁본기술과 디지털 명암기술의 두 가지가 있다. 디지털 탁본기술은 유물에 새겨진 명문이나 문양을 원형의 훼손 없이 3차원으로 스캐닝하고 이를 객관적 수치로 입체화시켜 명암효과를 표현함으로써 디지털 탁본 데이터를 구축하여 육안으로 확인하기 어려운 원래의 명문이나 문양을 명확하게 나타낼 수 있는 디지털 기술을 말한다. 디지털 명암기술은 유물 표면의 유리질 피막으로 인해서 대상물의 깊이정보를 계산할 수 없는 경우 3차원으로 스캐닝하고 이를 실감이미지 맵핑기술을 응용하여 디지털 명암이미지를 생성하는 디지털 기술을 말한다. 디지털 탁본기술은 주로 토기나 기와 그리고 비석 등 음각 또는 양각으로 표현된 명문이나 문양을 표현하는데 유용하며, 디지털 명암기술은 디지털 탁본기술이 적용될 수 없는 자기나 유리 등의 유물에 효과적으로 이용될 수 있다.
