  • To analyse the cyclic variations in a test engine, the burn parameters are determined on a cycle-to-cycle basis through the analysis of the engine pressure data. Combustion analysis based on cylinder-pressure provides a mechanism through which a combustion researcher can understand the combustion process. The objective of this paper is to identify the most significant sources of cycle-to-cycle combustion variability in a spark ignition engine at idle. The burn rate analysis program was used and the burn parameters were used to determine the variations in the input parameter. In this study, the author investigated the relationship of indicated mean effective pressure, coefficient of variation of indicated mean effective pressure and burn angles, and lowest normalized value in a spark ignition engine for the cyclic variations.

  • The objective of this paper is to examine the ways in which to implement MEPS method for setting the design and operational limits in order to provide the guaranteed performance of the aircraft engine. Direct adder arithmetically added and related with the effects of ambient humidity, engine quality, throttle set tolerance and deterioration, etc is described with the random adder added in root square sum. The method was applied on the preliminary design of 4,000Ib class turbofan engine and the MEPS for engine component design and operational margin was generated.

  • In this paper, an integrated system for dynamic analysis and optimal design of engine mount systems is presented. The system can simulate static and dynamic behaviors of engine mount systems and optimize design parameters such as mount stiffness, mounting locations with desired design targets of frequency or displacement. A FF-engine with an automatic transmission is used to demonstrate the analysis and optimal design capabilities of the proposed design system.

  • The performance-design algorithm of a liquid ramjet engine was studied, which showed the comparable results with CFD calculation except the shock-boundary layer interaction region. In addition to the description of the design algorithm, several important design parameters, such as equivalence ratio, combustion efficiency, air capturing factor, and flight Mach number, are evaluated as predicting one of performance factors, Isp, of a typical ramjet engine, so that the flight envelope might not be determined with narrow perspective performance-operation-area in off-design regime.

  • Report is devoted to place and role of numerical simulation in design of rocket propulsion systems. In introduction advanced solutions in liquid propellant rocket engines design are presented. Further essence of design process described briefly. The central place of method of solution of direct problem in design process was shown. Numerical simulation for solving direct problem of fluid dynamic was used as the alternative to theoretical and experimental approaches. Main features of numerical models of processes in propulsion systems were observed. Some results of simulation and (or) design of different types of chemical propulsion system were presented also. The combined rocket engine, rocket engine with injection of after-turbine gas into supersonic part of the nozzle, solid propellant engine and hybrid propulsion engine are under consideration.

  • Transverse vibrations of ship's aft end and deckhouse among the various modes of hull structures are induced mainly by transverse exciting forces and moments of main engine such as ${\times}$ and h-moment. Avoidance of resonance should be made in a intial design stage in case there is a prediction for resonance between main engine and transverse modes of deckhouse. This study shows a case of change in type of main engine from 12 cylinders to 10 without modification of hull structures in engine room requested by a shipowner of 8,600 TEU class container carrier and proposes a guide to the effective ways of structural arrangement for avoiding resonance between transverse exciting force and surrounding structures of main engine in engine room through case studies.

  • Current rechargeable battery cannot provide high energy density and the operational durations required. But linear engine/generators provide high energy density for portable power applications because fuel is more high density. In this paper, we suggest that basic design of powerpack using linear engine for assisting power output. Efficiency is relatively high because linear engine don't have crank mechanism compared with rotary engine. We made prototype engine and had experiments to know moving characteristic about the Linear Engine. It was possible to operate velocity at 50 Hz at the firing and pressure in cylinder was 16bar.

  • This paper shows a design and implementation of throttle valve controller for engine dynamometer system using fuzzy logic. Recently, we demanded the excellent measuring equipment so as to improve engine performance. The throttle valve control for engine dynamometer system is a very particular part in the engine control. Since the structure of engine dynamometer system is very complicated and has nonlinear elements which are influenced by disturbance of vibration, heating, cooling, and energy loss so on. In this paper, fuzzy logic control application have been successful in throttle valve control problem for engine dynamometer system in which the conventional control had difficulties dealing with the system. In this study, we propose a method that the control strategy uses Fuzzy Look-up table and normalization and obtained the satisfying result from realized throttle valve controller for engine dynamometer system.

  • A control-oriented nonlinear dynamic engine model is developed to represent a spark ignited engine over a wide range of operating conditions. The model includes intake manifold dynamics,. fuel film dynamics, and engine rotational dynamics with transport delays inherent in the four stroke engine cycles. The model is mathematically compact enough to run in real time, and can be used as an embedded model within a control algorithm or an observer. The model is validated with engine-dynamometer experimental data, and can be used in design and development of a powertrain controller.

  • Aiming at time-dependent performance prediction of Liquid Rocket Engine(LRE) system, Modular Program for Conceptual Design of LRE is reviewed, and a modeling and dynamic analysis of rocket engine system with reference to Rocket Engine Dynamic Simulator(REDS) is outlined. Component modeling is based on classical thermodynamic and inviscid theories, and were formulated mathematically in terms of essential parameters. Essential design parameters are addressed. The rocket engine is modeled as a system of pipes with various hydraulic elements, and then the operate characteristic of that elements are simulated by solving conservation equation sequentially.
