  • This paper describes a triple-input energy harvesting circuit using solar, vibration and thermoelectric energy with MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control. The designed circuit employs MPPT control to harvest maximum power available from a solar cell, PZT vibration element and thermoelectric generator. The harvested energies are simultaneously combined and stored in a storage capacitor, and then managed and transferred into a sensor node by PMU(Power Management Unit). MPPT controls are implemented using the linear relation between the open-circuit voltage of an energy transducer and its MPP(Maximum Power Point) voltage. The proposed circuit is designed in a CMOS 0.18um technology and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip occupies $945{\mu}m{\times}995{\mu}m$.

  • SACOS series of subchannel analysis codes have been developed by XJTU-NuTheL for many years and are being used for the thermal-hydraulic safety analysis of various reactor cores. To achieve fine whole core pin-level analysis, the input preprocessing and parallel capabilities of the code have been developed in this study. Preprocessing is suitable for modeling rectangular and hexagonal assemblies with less error-prone input; parallelization is established based on the domain decomposition method with the hybrid of MPI and OpenMP. For domain decomposition, a more flexible method has been proposed which can determine the appropriate task division of the core domain according to the number of processors of the server. By performing the calculation time evaluation for the several PWR assembly problems, the code parallelization has been successfully verified with different number of processors. Subsequent analysis results for rectangular- and hexagonal-assembly core imply that the code can be used to model and perform pin-level core safety analysis with acceptable computational efficiency.

  • To enhance the performance of SEWGS system by holding the WGS catalyst in a SEWGS reactor using bed inserts, effects of insert geometry and shape of WGS catalysts on CO conversion were measured and investigated. Small scale fluidized bed reactor was used as experimental apparatus and WGS catalyst (particle and tablet) and sand were used as bed materials. The parallel wall type and cross type bed inserts were used to hold the WGS catalysts. The CO conversion with steam/CO ratio was determined based on the exit gas analysis. The measured CO conversion using the bed inserts showed high value comparable to physical mixing cases. Moreover, gas flow direction was confirmed by bed pressure drop measurement for each case. Most of input gas flowed through the catalyst side when we charged tablet type catalyst into the bed insert and this can cause low $CO_2$ capture efficiency because the possibility of contact between input gas and $CO_2$ absorbent is low in this case. New bed insert geometry was proposed based on the results from this study to enhance contact between input gas and WGS catalyst and $CO_2$ absorbent.

  • Power peaking factors (PPF) is an important parameter for safe and efficient reactor operation. There are several methods to calculate the PPF at TRIGA research reactors such as MCNP and TRIGLAV codes. However, these methods are time-consuming and required high specifications of a computer system. To overcome these limitations, artificial intelligence was introduced for parameter prediction. Previous studies applied the neural network method to predict the PPF, but the publications using the ANFIS method are not well developed yet. In this paper, the prediction of PPF using the ANFIS was conducted. Two input variables, control rod position, and neutron flux were collected while the PPF was calculated using TRIGLAV code as the data output. These input-output datasets were used for ANFIS model generation, training, and testing. In this study, four ANFIS model with two types of input space partitioning methods shows good predictive performances with R2 values in the range of 96%-97%, reveals the strong relationship between the predicted and actual PPF values. The RMSE calculated also near zero. From this statistical analysis, it is proven that the ANFIS could predict the PPF accurately and can be used as an alternative method to develop a real-time monitoring system at TRIGA research reactors.

  • Since the dynamics of the slave manipulator with high reduction ratio joints is likely to be much slower than that of the master manipulator, the control input the slave manipulator is so frequently saturated. This paper proposes a bilateral teleoperation control scheme for 2-DOF manipulators with high reduction ratio joints, which can effectively compensate the control input saturation. In the proposed scheme, the controllers of the slave manipulator are designed with an anti-windup feature and forces caused by the saturation are reflected to the operator holding the operating handle of the master manipulator. When the control input of the slave manipulator is saturated, the master manipulator moves slowly file to tile reflected forces. In this way, the position tracking performance of the slave manipulator with high reduction ratio joints can be enhanced regardless of saturation. The proposed scheme is shown to give excellent position tracking performance through a series of experiments.

  • LCA is nowadays getting popular as a tool to assess the environmental impacts. We can assess the environmental impacts of products and also compare the environmental performance between products with LCA. Furthermore, the LCA results can be used for designing eco-friendly products. But LCA needs an enormous amount of data collection, calculations of energy and material balance. which required to spend pretty much time and cost. However, If we use Input-Output Analysis, There is a lot of advantages that we can save time and cost to calculate and also analyze energy-material balance more comprehensively. Therefore, we implemented the fundamental research of the environmental impact assessment on railway system using life cycle inventory analysis and Input-Output Analysis method.

  • A zero-voltage transition (ZVT) PWM boost PFC converter using a transformer to recover the resonant energy into the input voltage is proposed. The proposed converter reduces turn-off switching loss of the auxiliary switch. The resonant current of the auxiliary circuit is optimally reduced by the feed-forwarded input voltage. Moreover, the resonant energy of the auxiliary circuit is recovered into the load and input voltages. In this paper, the modes of converter operation are explained and analyzed, design guidelines are given, and experimental results of 1.2kW, 200kHz prototype system are presented.

  • This paper proposes enhanced single-phase pulse width modulation buck, boost, and buck-boost type ac-ac converters. The proposed converters, where input and output voltages share a common ground, require no isolated voltage sensor and have no leakage current problem. The commutation problem is solved with series-connected switching cell structures without using an additional RC snubber. In addition, with the use of the polarity of input voltage, switching patterns are determined so that the inductor currents can flow through switching devices during all operational modes. Two switches are always turned on during a half-period of the input voltage; thus, the switching loss is significantly reduced. Detailed analysis and experimental results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • The sensitivity analysis of input parameters for a dynamic food chain model DYNACON was conducted as a function of deposition date for the long-lived radionuclides $(^{137}Cs,\;^{90}Sr)$. Also, the influence of input parameters for the short and long-terms contamination of selected foodstuffs (cereals, leafy vegetables, milk) was investigated. The input parameters were sampled using the LHS technique, and their sensitivity indices represented as PRCC. The sensitivity index was strongly dependent on contamination period as well as deposition date. In case of deposition during the growing stages of plants, the input parameters associated with contamination by foliar absorption were relatively important in long-term contamination as well as short-term contamination. They were also important in short-term contamination in case of deposition during the non-growing stages. In long-term contamination, the influence of input parameters associated with foliar absorption decreased, while the influence of input parameters associated with root uptake increased. These phenomena were more remarkable in case of the deposition of non-growing stages than growing stages, and in case of $^{90}Sr$ deposition than $^{137}Cs$ deposition. In case of deposition during growing stages of pasture, the input parameters associated with the characteristics of cattle such as feed-milk transfer factor and daily intake rate of cattle were relatively important in contamination of milk.

  • For the direct reforming of biogas, a three-phase gliding arc plasma reformer was designed to expand the plasma discharge region, and the operation conditions of the plasma reformer, such as the S/C ratio, the gas flow rate, and the plasma input power, were optimized. The H2 production efficiency is increased at a lower specific plasma input energy density, but byproducts such as CXHY and carbon soot are generated along with the increase in H2 production efficiency. The formation of byproducts is decreased at higher specific plasma input energy densities and S/C ratios. The optimized operation conditions are 5.5 ~ 6.0 kJ/L for the specific plasma input energy density and 3 for the S/C ratio, considering the conversion efficiency, H2 production, and byproduct formation. It is expected that the H2 production efficiency will improve with the decrease in fuel consumption in biogas burners because the heat generated from plasma discharge heats up the feed gas to over 500 ℃.
