This study has attempted to investigate the time use of the elementary school students and their satisfaction levels by their general characteristics for the educational guidance. The sample of this study consisted of 387 elementary school students on Jeju Island who are in the fifth or sixth year. The data were analysed by frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's test. The major results of this study were as follows; The results of this study showed that the students spent much time for studying including extra programs as like their ages. Also, their leisure time focused on watching TV or doing computer. The levels of satisfaction according to the time use were slightly high although their time allocation was not various. The time use of the students and their satisfaction levels were significantly affected by the general family situation related to parents as well as their own characteristics. The variables such as the student's sex, parent's educational level, whether the mother is employed or not, and monthly allowance were important to result in the differences of the time use and satisfaction levels among the students. The leisure time was strongly related with the satisfaction levels.
The purpose of this study was to find out whether the Grit test is valid as a test tool for Identification of mathematically gifted elementary students. For this study, we conducted Grit tests, Mathematical Problem Solving Aability Tests, Mathematical Creative Ability Tests, and Mathematically Gifted Behavior Characteristic Tests on 39 ordinary students at Seoul public elementary school and 20 mathematically gifted students at the Education Center for Gifted Education, and analyzed correlation with each test. In addition, we conducted a discriminant analysis to find out how the Grit test can accurately determine the members of the mathematically gifted student group and the ordinary student group. As a result of Pearson's correlation analysis, the Grit test was .521 with the Mathematical Problem Solving Ability Tests, .440 with the Mathematical Creative Ability Tests, and .601 with the Mathematically Gifted Behavior Characteristic Tests, according to significant positive correlation at p<.01. Through this, it can be confirmed that the Grit test has a high official validity as a tool for determining mathematically gifted students. As a result of conducting a discriminant analysis to confirm the classification discrimination ability of the elementary mathematically gifted student group and ordinary student group of the Grit test, Wilk's λ was .799(p<.001). We confirm that the Grit test is a significant variable in determining the mathematically gifted student group and ordinary student group. In addition, 64.4% of the entire group was accurately classified as a result of group classification through discriminant analysis. This shows that the Grit test can be actually used as a test tool to determine mathematically gifted elementary students.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of scientific argumentation and its development in the process of mutual discussion activities by elementary school students in the 5th grade. The results of this study can be summarized as below: First, students used diversity argumentation components for solving the given argumentation theme, however, most students used the assertion or the basis of a simple expression of their own thoughts as a high ratio, and components of a one directional explanatory argumentation process rather than components of a mutual communicative argumentation process. Second, an asymmetric group showed a high-use ratio of communicative argumentation components and achieved argumentation activities harmoniously between a symmetric group and an asymmetric group in organization of groups for solving argumentation themes. It was found that students in the transitional period showed the highest rate of participation within the discussion process. Moreover, they also showed the highest rate of development of discussion skills whilst in the process of using scientific problems. In conclusion, this phenomenon is caused by highlighting the mutual action between the teacher and the student rather than placing an emphasis on the mutual action among students during field instructions.
This study explores the possibility and development plan for science career education in the lower grades of elementary school. Accordingly, science career education programs were developed and applied. We investigated changes in perception and interest in science before and after the programs, and analyzed surveys, research journals, student worksheets, and interview records. Science career education programs for lower-grade elementary school students have a positive effect on the perception of scientists and science. Moreover, they influence students' interest in science. Lastly, students' perception of this program was positive and gave high marks to all parameters such as interest, participation, and understanding of the program.
Background: To help future generations make accurate value judgments about nuclear power generation and radiation, this study will provide an effective education plan suitable for South Korea by applying and analyzing programs for the understanding of nuclear power within the diversely operated programs in the current Korean education system. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed the difference in educational effects by operating a 13-session regular curriculum for one semester and a one-session short-term curriculum from March to July 2016. Results and Discussion: As a result of operating a 13-session model school and a one-time educational program to analyze behavior changes against the traditional learning model, it was found that all elementary, middle and high school students showed higher acceptability of nuclear power in South Korea. The variation was greater for the model school than the short-term program. Conclusion: To prevent future generations from making biased policy decisions stemming from fear regarding nuclear power, it is necessary to bolster their value judgments in policy decisions by acquiring sufficient information about nuclear power generation and radiation through educational programs.

Objectives: Young athletes require adequate nutrition to maintain their athletic performance, growth and health. This study examined the status and needs of nutrition management and meal services for student athletes among the athlete's parents. Methods: The subjects were parents of elementary, middle, and high school athletes (n=323) from 18 schools participating mainly in the Sports Food Truck. The questionnaire included general characteristics, status and needs on nutrition management and meal service for student athletes, and satisfaction with the Food Truck. The survey was done during 2018. The data were analyzed according to the school groups using a ${\chi}^2-test$ or ANOVA. Results: Approximately 45% of subjects had difficulty in the nutrition management of athletes, and 87.1% had not received nutrition education. Approximately 74% wanted nutrition education held for athletes, and mainly wanted topics on nutrition management for health and eating for athletic performance. The preferred methods were lectures and cooking activity. The responses on the necessity of nutrition education for athletes, desired education topics, and desired times for education differed significantly according to the school groups (p<0.05). Most subjects also wanted nutrition information mainly through SNS. In the athlete's meal, breakfast and snacks were highlighted as the meal to supplement. Approximately 90.3% responded that providing a meal service is necessary. The subjects preferred snacks before/after exercise and dinner if a meal service was provided. They preferred Korean food, followed by snacks, and a dish meal. As the meal type, the subjects wanted the Food Truck and packed meal. The responses on necessity of a meal service (p<0.05), preferred food (p<0.001), and meal type (p<0.001) in the meal service differed significantly according to the school groups. Approximately 43% were satisfied with the Food Truck and 50.8% responded as average. They made suggestions for the Food Truck in terms of foods, operations and frequency. Conclusions: Based on the study results, nutrition education and meal service may support nutrition for student athletes considering the needs of the parents according to the school groups.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship between smoking, drinking and safety behavior in middle and high school students in one Korean province, North Cholla. Method: The study sample included 1,327 randomly selected middle and high school students from S-Gun area in Chonbuk Province. The data were collected using an anonymous questionnaire developed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (2005). The data were analyzed using the SPSSWIN 15.0 program. Results: The smoking rate in the middle and high school students was 6.9%, and the drinking rate was 24.9%. The rate for seatbelt use was 49.3%, for drunk driving, 8.8%, and for riding in car driven by a drunk driver, 24.0%. The rates for seatbelt use, for drunk driving, and for riding in a drunk driver were higher in smokers and drinkers than in non-smokers and non-drinkers(p<.05). Conclusion: The smoking and drinking status of the adolescents was correlated with their safety behavior practices as they relate to seatbelt use, drunk driving, and for riding in car driven by a drunk driver. Therefore, an elementary school level program to curb student smoking and alcohol consumption is needed to prevent smoking and alcohol consumption in middle and high school students and contribute to improvement in their safety behavior practices.
The aims of this study are to develop the STEAM program focused '3D printing for respiratory system' and to ascertain its influence on elementary student's science process skills, creative problem solving abilities and scientific interest. The developed STEAM program was applied to 5th grade students of O elementary school located in J city. As a result of applying the STEAM program, the experimental group of the STEAM program class improved significantly in creative problem solving abilities and scientific interest than the control group of the theoretical class. The result of learner satisfaction survey of the STEAM program was high. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in science process skills between the two groups. Therefore, the STEAM program class with the theme of '3D printing for respiratory system' could be meaningful works to encourage students' interest as well as their creative problem solving ability and scientific interest. In future, continuous and systematic studies on STEAM programs focused on 'structure and function of our body' are needed for elementary students' cognitive and affective developments.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to develop first aid education programs for elementary school students. Method: A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 720 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. Results: 1) The mean score for cognition of first aid education of the students was high with a score of 2.64 $({\pm}.30)$. 2) The mean scores for the 11 categories were, "Fire & Burns", 2.78 $({\pm}.40)$, "Poisoning", 2.77 $({\pm}.47)$, "Thermal injuries", 2.75 $({\pm}.51)$, "Rescue & moving", 2.73 $({\pm}.37)$, "Bites", 2.72 $({\pm}.44)$, "General first aid", 2.64 $({\pm}.37)$, "Wounds", 2.59 $({\pm}.39)$, "Removing foreign bodies", 2.58 $({\pm}.46)$, "Cardiopulmonary resuscitation", 2.57 $({\pm}.59)$, and "Musculoskeletal injuries" and "Others", 2.54 $({\pm}.51,\;{\pm}.53)$. 3) There was a significant difference in the cognition of first aid education according to student's gender (t=-3.012, p=.003), and judgement about the emergency situation (F=3.411, p=.034). Conclusion: The results indicate the necessity of developing effective first aid education programs for elementary school students.

In this study, a survey was conducted of students in grades 7 through 12, student teachers enrolled in their senior year at teachers' colleges, and science teachers. Subjects were surveyed on their conceptions of phenomenon related with dissolution, saturation, and extraction. The models and analogies used by student teachers and science teachers to explain dissolution were sought. The highest percentage of students thought of dissolution as a phenomenon in which particles broke into the spaces between other particles. The models or analogies used by the highest percentage of science teachers were similar. They generally conceived of dissolution phenomenon through what we call the 'space conception'. A conception of dissolution phenomenon as 'hydration through attraction of solvent and solute' was held by more student teachers than science teachers; there were some differences, however, according to their academic background. The percentage of teachers professing this view decreased when they attempted to explain the process of extraction of matter in a solution after other matter had dissolved or after the solution was cooled, indicating that the 'hydration' conception was not firmly established in the student teachers' cognition. Therefore, it can be inferred that the conceptions of dissolution as 'hydration' were transformed into the conceptions of dissolution as 'space' after teaching dissolution phenomenon as practicing teachers. This finding should be considered in teacher-training courses.
