Development of a Steady Arm for the Maximum Speed of 400 km/h (400 km/h급 전차선로 곡선당김금구 개발)

  • In order to develop a overhead catenary system for the maximum speed of 400 km/h on Honam high-speed line, increasing tension of contact wire, changing dropper distributions, reducing a hard point and etc. should be considered. And it is also essential to develop core components taking account of the increased tension. Therefore we developed a new steady arm for the max. speed of 400 km/h in this study. FEM (Finite Elements Method) analysis was performed to ensure the strength of the arm. An oval shape was applied to the arm, so that 25 % of strength was increased and 9 % of weight was decreased. And a type test according to the code KRSA-3012 was performed to ensure the performance. Fatigue test in KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute)'s test-bed was also performed to evaluate its performance. Some section of the Honam High-speed line was constructed with the developed steady arm.

  • At this study, one of the electrical problems, arc characteristics according to loss of contact between a pantograph and a catenary, was analyzed. A characteristic of arc current is disappeared in a short period of time. Nevertheless, it has large current same as a surge, so that it has EMI/EMC problems. In the case of the electrical railway system, there is oscillation and de-wiring. The are current is generated by these problems. The result of this study can be used as a facility design to prevent a surge and needs to prove through actual field data in the main circuit of an electric train for a precise analysis about effect of are.

The Study of Tilting Control System for Tilting Vehicle (틸팅차량 틸팅제어장치 연구)

  • Tilting trains are now an established feature of railway operations throughout the world. For intercity traffic, tilt provides operators with increasing speeds, and therefore enhanced competitiveness, on existing routes where insufficient traffic or a lack of funds precludes the construction of a dedicated new high-speed railway. Appling the tilting train, we can expect 30% of speed up on existing lines, but the stability of the electric current would be low because of tilting the train. Also, the spark between the catenary and pantagraph cause environmental problems such as noise, radio wave malfunction. Therefore, the tilting on pantagraph for the power suppling device is very essential for stable electric power supply.

  • This paper presents the AC electric railway system modeling using PSCAD/EMTDC program. This system model is composed of the scott-transformer the auto-transformer. the running rails. the protection wires, the feeders. the catenary and contact wires, etc. After obtaining the models of the fundamental elements describing the AC electric railway system and its behavior, we have analyzed and tested real traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current to verify the proposed model. The simulation results from the proposed approach and the measurement data from the test are described in the paper.

  • The measurement of contact wire wear in electric railways is one of the key test parameters to increase speed and maintain safety in electric railways. Wear caused by continuous interaction between pantographs and contact wires has a negative effect on current collection quality and severely damaged contact wires might cause hazardous accidents. This paper introduces a non-contact optical-based contact wire wear measuring system that will replace conventional wear detecting methods conducted by maintenance vehicles or workers. The system is implemented by high-speed cameras that can collect images of contact wires during vehicle operation, a laser used to create images profile of the contact wire surface, and a computer used to process the collected images. The proposed system is designed to assist maintenance of overhead contact lines by creating geometrically plotted images of contact wires to detect contact wire wear during operation on conventional lines or high-speed lines.

A Novel Fault Location Scheme on Korean Electric Railway System Using the 9-Conductor Representation

  • This paper presents a novel fault location scheme on Korean AC electric railway systems. On AC railway system, because of long distance, 40[km] or above, between two railway substations, a fault location technique is very important. Since the fault current flows through the catenary system, it must be modeled exactly to analyze the fault current magnitude and fault location. In this paper, suggesting the novel scheme of fault location, a 9-conductor modeling technique including boost wires and impedance bonds is introduced based on the characteristics of Korean AC electric railway. After obtaining a 9-conductor modeling, the railway system is constructed for computer simulation by using PSCAD/EMTDC. By case studies, we can verify superiority of a new fault location scheme and propose a powerful model for fault analysis on electric railway systems.

  • The development of tilting train has been required for speed-up on the conventional electric railroad due to the characteristic of Korean railroad with a lot of curve track. The study and development of a tilting system and a tilting bogie which have a different mechanism with high speed train will play a important role for enhancement of technology for Korean railway. The study for tilting pantograph mechanism to decrease the displacement between a catenary and a center of pantograph happened when the carbody is tilted in order to maintain the ride comfort and stability m a curving track is proceeding with the development of tilting train. In this paper, we introduce the design concept for the tilting mechanism of pantograph and the role and characteristics for several devices adopted in the tilting mechanism of pantograph. Through the kinematic analysis of tilting mechanism, we will obtain and calculate the optimal tilting angular velocity and acceleration in order to keep the contact behavior of a pantograph and a catenary according to tilting of a carbody.

  • We propose an optical-based measuring instrument of catenary system in electric railway. This system was made to utilize line scan camera as inspecting system to measure the stagger and height of overhead contact wire in railway and composed with optical type source and FPGA-based image acquisition system with PCI slot. Vision acquisition software has been used for the application to programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling. The proposed optical-based measuring instrument to measure the contact wire geometry shows promising on-field applications for online condition motoring. Also, this system can be applied to measure the hight and stagger or other geometry of different type of overhead catenary system.

Numerical Analyses on Moment Resisting Behaviors of Electric Pole Foundations According to Their Shapes (기초형상에 따른 전철주기초 모멘트 저항거동에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • Electric pole foundations for overhead catenary system of railroad should be designed so that they may resist significant overturning moment but relatively small vertical forces. Also they should have proper shapes to be installed at restricted narrow areas adjacent to railroad track. In this paper the moment responses of rectangular pole foundations according to their shapes were investigated numerically. A three-dimensional finite element method was developed and verified so that the numerical behaviors of the foundation resisting the overturning moments were compared reasonably well with those from an existing real-scale load test. The influences of aspect ratio, varying section with depth and loading directions for rectangular section were investigated using the developed numerical method. From the numerical results, the optimized shapes of pole foundation for more effective and economic installation adjacent to railroad track are proposed.
