  • At present, interest in the welfare of the elderly (persons over sixty-five years of age), including their dietary status, is high. Nutrition and dietary status have been investigated for both the institutionalized and non-institutionalized (independent-living) elderly in foreign country. But the dietary status of institutionalized elderly has not been investigated. Therefore, the dietary status of institutionalized elderly has been studied and compared with that of non-institutionalized elderly in the same geographic area. Three-day dietary records were obtained from fourty-five institutionalized elderly residents (twenty-five men and twenty women) and thirty two elderly living at home (sixteen men and sixteen women) in Taegu area. All nutrient intakes of the elderly women living at home and all nutrient intakes except energy intakes of the elderly men living at home were significantly higher than those of the residents of the institutionalized facilities. (p<0.005) The values of height, weight, chest circumference, and sitting height except head circumference of female elderly living in institutionalized facilities is significantly lower than those of elderly living at home. (p<0.005) In the case of men, the values of height and chest circumference of elderly living in institutionalized facilities is significantly lower than those of elderly living at home. (p<0.05)

And also this study intended to provide basic data for developing effective public medical policies and health promotion programs to increase oral health related living quality of the elder. Methods: The elderly of 65 years and over living in Jeju Special Self-Government Province were interviewed individually from 7 February 2011 to 18 April and interview results of a total of 220 subjects were analysed for this study. Results: Current status of the elderly including ones with & without physical debilities influenced functional limitation and behavioral aspects of GOHAI criteria used in this study. The elderly with physical debilities experienced less limitation in food chewing and swallowing, and pronunciation than ones capable of living at home. On the analogy of the previous study(by Park, N. G., 2010) in which oral health related quality and satisfaction of life of the elderly with physical debilities were different due to their physical, circumstantial and psychological limitations, the former's oral health conditions are worse than the ones capable of living at home and because of medical care accessability limitation they suffer from deteriorated oral condition. By the comparison of factors influencing on the living quality relating to the oral health of the elderly with physical debilities and ones capable of living at home, 2 factors, age and living area, were meaningful factors commonly influencing on the oral health related living qualities of both. The elderly of 75 years and over were more affected by psychological and behavioral aspects of oral health related living quality than the ones of 65-74 years, and the ones living in country suffered from functional limitations, pains and discomfort more than ones in city. Additionally, being different from the elderly capable of living at home, the ones with physical debilities were influenced by the factors of average monthly income and medical security type. Conclusion: Improvement of programs and systems to increase oral health related quality of life needs to be carried out preferentially for the elderly of 75 years and over, and dwelling in country. Also this study suggests that the policy of paying the denture insurance allowance in 2012 need effective planning considering the elderly's current status, age, living area, medical security type.

  • The study aimed at investigating the living time as well as disability degree of the elderly based on daily living acting capability and living activity degree. The survey was conducted through the home-visit interview during half month at july, 1996 by the students of nursing department who were previously trained. The survey targeted the elderly aged 65 years or more living at home in rural area. The study tried to utilize Activity Inventory(AI) made for examing health and disease, disability degree, and living acting degree of the elderly. Among the AI's, there are Physical Activity of Daily Living(PADL), Instrumental Activity of Daily Living(IADL), maximum daily activity scope, and physical and mental activity level of the elderly. The daily living time is surveyed physiologic time(sleeping, eating and grooming), labor time(occupation, housekeeping and farming) and leisure time(reading, sport hobby-life). Results of the study show that social activity degree of the elderly is found to be lower than that PADL, LADL, and daily living scope. It seems that the elderly suffer from inability in daily life with lower social activity degree. But the labour time of the daily living time is the most amount time in the targeted 361 elderlys through random sampling. Therefore postponement of the disability of aging should be devised to encourage the labour activity of the elderly.

  • Purpose : This study aims to investigate the effect of instrument-activities daily living training through client-centered home visitation on the cognitive functions, occupational performance, and instrument-activities daily living of elderly at the cognitive support grade(Grade6). Methods : The subject of this study was a 66-year-old woman living in G Metropolitan City, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and mild dementia. The study period was from March 17, 2020 through June 12, 2020, and the A-B-A' design, among the individual case experiments, was adopted as the study design. For the data analysis, descriptive statistic and visual analysis using graph were used for the change of cognitive functions, occupational performance, and instrument-activities daily living. Results : The instrument-activities daily living provided through client-centered home visitation improved the subject's cognitive functions, occupational performance(performance, satisfaction) and instrument-activities daily living. Conclusion : This study showed that daily life training through client-centered home visitation can help elderly people at the cognitive support grade select for themselves the problems of daily life caused by cognitive decline and practice specific action plans, thereby enabling them to maintain and improve the cognitive functions necessary for the performance of activities, such as comprehension, memory, and thinking skills. In addition, it is thought that the activities based on the subject's preferences, performance, and sense of importance assured the subject of feelings of motivation and the possibility of participation, and had a positive effect on the subject's performance speed and rate. With the above in mind, Instrument-activities daily living client-centered home visitation is proposed as a potential practical intervention program for individuals. It can help elderly people at cognitive support grade to maintain and improve their functions, thereby delaying the progress of their condition to severe dementia.
