  • In order to tackle healthcare expenditure problems that affects a crucial part of government finances world-wide, m-Health emerged as a solution. However, recent poor outcomes of m-Health led to the need for reform in m-Health services. Therefore the purpose of this research is to propose a solution for efficient vital data transmission and storing in m-Health environment as part of such initiative. Methods included development of an efficient system and algorithm for vital data. For results, the compression ratio of the proposed solution was compared and evaluated. Results showed a compression ratio of 30.4. The proposed system is envisioned to contribute to the future vital data monitoring system in m-Health.

  • In this paper, at first, we investigate existing algorithms for finding the minimum infinity-norm solution of consistent linear equations and then propose a new algorithm. The proposed algorithm is intended to includes the advantages of computational efficiency as well as geometric explicitness. As a practical application example, optimum trajectory planning for redundant robot manipulators is considered. Also, an efficient approach avoiding discontinuity in trajectory is proposed by resolving the non-uniqueness problem of minimum infinity-norm solution. To be specific, the proposed method for checking possible discontinuity does not need any other algorithms in checking the possibility of discontinuity while previous work needs specially designed checking courses. To show the usefulness of the proposed techniques, an example calculating minimum infinity-norm solution for comparing the computational efficiency as well as the trajectory planning for a redundant robot manipulator are included.

  • We provide a new solution for the projective reconstruction problem based on coupled line cameras (CLCs) and their geometric properties. The proposed solution is composed of a series of optimized steps, and each step is more efficient than those of the initial solution proposed in [1]. We also give a new determinant condition for rectangle determination, which leads to less ambiguity in implementation. The key steps of the proposed solution can be represented with more compact analytic equations due to the intuitive geometric interpretations of the projective reconstruction problem based on CLCs: the center of projection corresponds to the intersection point of the two solution circles of each line camera involved.

  • This paper proposes a cost-effective solution to the synonym problem of virtual caches. In the proposed solution, a minimal hardware addition guarantees the correctness whereas the software counterpart helps improve the performance. The key to this proposed solution is an addition of a small physically-indexed cache called U-cache. The U-cache maintains the reverse translation information of the cache blocks that belong to unaligned virtual pages only, where aligned measns that the lower bits of the virtual page number match those of the corresponding physical page number. The page alignment is a simple software optimization to improve the performance of the U-cche hardware. With the combination of both hardware and software, the proposed solution reduces the hardware costs and minimizes software modification and performance degradation. Performance evaluation base on ATUM traces shows that a U-cache, with only a few entries, performs almost as well as fully-configured hardware-based solution when more than 95% of the pages are aligned.

  • In this study, solution models are proposed to obtain code-compatible ground motion record sets which can be used for both uni-directional and bi-directional dynamic analyses. Besides scaled, unscaled ground motion record sets are obtained to show the utility and efficiency of the solution models. For scaled ground motion sets the proposed model is based on hybrid HS-Solver which integrates heuristic harmony search (HS) algorithm with the spreadsheet Solver add-in. For unscaled ground motion sets HS based solution model is proposed. Design spectra defined in Eurocode-8 for different soil types are selected as target spectra. The European Strong Motion Database is used to get ground motion record sets. Also, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to evaluate the effect of different HS solution parameters on the solution accuracy. Results show that the proposed solution models can be regarded as efficient ways to develop scaled and unscaled ground motion sets compatible with code-based design spectra.

  • This study provides an approximate analytical solution to the fractional vibration problem of thin plate governing anomalous motion of plate subjected to in-plane loads. The method of variable separable is employed to transform the fractional partial differential equations under consideration into a fractional ordinary differential equation in temporal variable and a bi-harmonic plate equation in spatial variable. The technique of conformable fractional derivative is utilized to solve the resulting fractional differential equation and the approach of finite sine integral transform method is used to solve the accompanying bi-harmonic plate equation. The deflection field which measures the transverse displacement of the plate is expressed in terms of product of Bessel and trigonometric functions via the temporal and spatial variables respectively. The obtained solution reduces to the solution of the free vibration problem of thin plate in literature. This work shows that conformable fractional derivative is an efficient mathematical tool for tracking analytical solution of fractional partial differential equation governing anomalous vibration of thin plates.

  • The increasing size and complexity of deep neural networks (DNNs) necessitate the development of efficient high-performance accelerators. An efficient memory structure and operating scheme provide an intuitive solution for high-performance accelerators along with dataflow control. Furthermore, the processing of various neural networks (NNs) requires a flexible memory architecture, programmable control scheme, and automated optimizations. We first propose an efficient architecture with flexibility while operating at a high frequency despite the large memory and PE-array sizes. We then improve the efficiency and usability of our architecture by automating the optimization algorithm. The experimental results show that the architecture increases the data reuse; a diagonal write path improves the performance by 1.44× on average across a wide range of NNs. The automated optimizations significantly enhance the performance from 3.8× to 14.79× and further provide usability. Therefore, automating the optimization as well as designing an efficient architecture is critical to realizing high-performance DNN accelerators.

  • Many algorithms have been developed for optimizing the asymmectric traveling salesman problem known as a representative NP-Complete problem. The most efficient ones of them are branch and bound algorithms based on the subtour elimination approach. To increase efficiency of the branch and bound algorithm. number of decision nodes should be decreased. For this the minimum bound that is more close at the optimal solution should be found or an effective bounding strategy should be used. If the optimal solution has been known, we may apply it usefully to branching. Because a good feasible solution should be found as soon as possible and have similar features of the optimal solution. By the way, the upper bound solution in branch and bound algorithm is most close at the optimal solution. Therefore, the upper bound solution can be used instead of the optimal solution and information of which can be applied to new branching criteria. As mentioned above, this paper will propose an effective branching rule using the information of the upper bound solution in the branch and bound algorithm. And superiority of the new branching rule will be shown by comparing with Bellmore-Malone's one and carpaneto-Toth's one that were already proposed.

  • An accurate analysis procedure to solve the flow about a flat plate at various incidences has been developed. The Navier-Stokes equations of stream function and vorticity form are solved in a sufficiently large computational domain, in which the grid lines are mutually orthogonal. The details of the flow near the singularity at the tip of the plate is well captured by the analytic solution which is asymptotically matched to the numerically generated outer solution. The solution for each region is obtained iteratively : the solution of one (inner or outer) region uses that of the other as the boundary condition after each cycle. The resulting procedure is accurate everywhere and also computationally efficient as the singularity has been removed. It is applied to the flat plate for a wide range of Re : the results agree very well with the existing computation and experiment.

  • An approximated analytical solution of mathematical model for the three phase fluidized bed bioreactor (TFBBR) was proposed using the linearization technique to describe oxygen utilization rate in wastewater treatment. The validation of the model was done in comparison with the experimental results. Satisfactory agreement was obtained in the comparison of approximated analytical solution and numerical solution in the oxygen concentration profile of a TFBBR. The approximated solutions for three modes of the liquid phase flow were compared. The proposed model was able to predict the biomass concentration, dissolved oxygen concentration the height of efficient column, and the removal efficiency.
