  • Background: This study aimed to explore the associations of social-demographic, health-behavioral, and woman-specific factors with the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test in Korean adult women. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of 9,698 Korean adult women aged 20 years or more who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys V (2010-2012). Rao-Scott chi-square tests and survey logistic regression analyses were employed respectively to analyze the difference in the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test by each characteristic and to explore the factors related to the non-screening status. Results: The rate of the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test was 53.5% over the previous 2 years. In the survey logistics regression analysis, age, marital status, educational levels, income levels, residential area, occupation, private health insurance, smoking, alcohol, obesity, menstrual status, pregnancy experience, and hormone replacement therapy were significantly associated with the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test. Conclusion: On the basis of the results of this study, some social-demographic, health-behavioral, and woman-specific characteristics of Korean adult women seem to affect the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test. Therefore, appropriate health policies need to be designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to reduce the non-screening status of the cervical cancer screening test of them.

  • This study examined the awareness levels of stroke warning symptoms and the related factors among residents in a province and this paper presents the evidence for education and promotion strategies. The study subjects were 585 adults living in a province. The demographic factors and awareness levels of stroke symptoms were surveyed through a telephone interview. In the survey, the most frequently recognized warning symptoms were 'sudden speech disturbance (84.6%)', and 'sudden weakness of one side (73.9%)'. On the other hand, 'sudden dizziness (67.0%)', 'sudden visual impairment (55.4%)' and 'sudden severe headache (51.3%)' were less recognized. In a multiple regression analysis, male, young age, no familial history of stroke, no acquaintance history of stroke, low educational level, no exposure to promotional literature were significantly related to a low awareness level of the stroke warning symptoms. Providing customized programs will be helpful for enhancing the efficiency of promotion and education to the population with a low awareness level of stroke symptoms.

The program comprised of 3 levels: basic, advanced, and intensive, which included 80, 70, and 60 hours of education, respectively. From May to December in 2012, 17 counseling nurses completed the program and we evaluated their learning achievements, attitudes towards AIDS, confidence in consultation, empathic ability, and training sessions. We also measured the nurses' satisfaction with the program before and after completion. Results: After completing a monthly education program lasting 12-15 hours, the nurses' mean learning achievement was 88.5%, 88.3% and 91.4% out of the basic, advanced, and intensive levels, respectively. Although the nurses' attitudes towards AIDS did not change, their confidence and empathic abilities increased following the basic and intensive components of the programs. Satisfaction with the educational sessions and program operation was 4.23 out of 5.0. • The goal of mathematics education in the 7-th national curriculum is focused on maximizing learning effectiveness through teaching mathematics, considering learning contents and levels appropriate to various levels of students' abilities. Thus, reduction of contents, learner-centered way of teaching, and multi-step differentiated learning are centered around the curriculum. However, in reality one of the most difficult problems mentioned by many inservice teachers is that students are not interested in school mathematics because some of them tended to learn mathematics in advance in private institutes and others felt difficult from school mathematics. Thus, alternative solutions are strongly required. When students are more interested in mathematics classes and instructional materials, as a more effective way of teaching, are appropriately used, problems mentioned above are expected to be solved. In order to solve problems, additionally, this study investigated the amount of time assigned to each area of mathematics textbooks from level 1-A to level 6-B, which are currently used in elementary school. This study also examined inservice teachers' views about how instructional materials should be used. This will be helpful on using and developing instructional materials, and it will lead to more exciting classes of mathematics. However, these teaching materials need to be carefully used regarding their relationships with pedagogical transfer, metacognitive movement, and localization.

  • Purpose: The study was conducted to clarify effects of a clonorchiasis prevention education program for clonorchiasis prevention lecturers. Methods: The research adopted a single group pretest-posttest design to see effects of the educational program to prevent Clonorchis sinensis infection. The subjects of this study were 74 clonorchiasis prevention lecturers from primary health care facilities. The pretest was conducted before the clonorchiasis prevention education program and the post test was done after the 2-day program in August, 2011. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were conducted to analyze the data. Results: The confidence level in Clonorchiasis management activities was improved significantly from $4.1{\pm}0.53$ points before the education to $4.4{\pm}0.46$ points after the education (t=-5.117, p<.001). The knowledge level about prevention of Clonorchis sinensis was improved significantly from $16.1{\pm}2.72$ points before the education to $18.3{\pm}1.14$ points after the education (t=-6.629, p<.001). Conclusion: The results suggest that the education program was effective in improving the confidence and knowledge levels in Clonorchiasis management activities for the clonorchiasis prevention lecturers. Based on the results of this study, continuous research on how the increased knowledge and confidence levels of Clonorchis sinensis prevention affect the prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis infection.

  • Purpose: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) can cause severe malnutrition. However, relationships between CINV levels, non-pharmacological coping methods, and nutritional status of female cancer patients have rarely been investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze their relationships in gynecologic cancer patients. Methods: Participants receiving a highly and moderately emetogenic chemotherapy were recruited. The level of CINV was assessed using a numeric rating scale. Coping methods were determined using multiple-choice self-report questionnaires and categorized into seven types for statistical analysis. Nutritional status was evaluated using biochemical and anthropometric parameters. Results: Among all the 485 patients, 200 eligible inpatients were included. Despite the administration of prophylactic antiemetics, 157 patients (78.5%) still experienced CINV, and several used nonmedically recommended coping methods, such as just enduring the symptom or rejecting food intake. A total of 181 patients (90.5%) had nutritional disorders. Although the level of CINV was indirectly related to the occurrence of nutritional disorders, patients who rejected food (${\beta}=1.57$, p=.023) and did not use physical measures (${\beta}=-1.23$, p=.041) as coping methods were under the high risk of nutritional disorders. Conclusion: Korean gynecologic cancer patients had high levels of CINV and were at high risk of nutritional disorders, which may be related to the use of nonscientific coping methods, possibly due to cultural backgrounds and lack of proper nutritional program. Therefore, developing a culturally appropriate educational program for the cancer patients with CINV is urgently needed.
