The Relationships Between Immigrant Korean-American Parents' Aspirations for Children's Educational Attainment and Their Parenting Styles

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how immigrant Korean American parents' aspirations for children's educational attainment are related to their childrearing behavior, their beliefs about the nature of children's intelligence, their level of acculturation, and their beliefs about achievement. One hundred and twenty five immigrant Korean mothers in the United States participated in the study. The present study found that parental expectation for a daughter's educational attainment was significantly related to the mother's educational level. The results of regression analysis also indicated that for daughters, the significant predictors for parents' aspirations for children's educational attainment were the mothers' educational level and parental beliefs about achievement; for sons, significant predictors were the mothers' educational level and parental nurturance.

위탁아동의 학업성취향상 요인에 관한 연구 : 위탁부모의 교육에 대한 관심과 참여 중심으로 (Coping with Educational Disadvantages of Foster Children : Educational Expectations and Involvement Foster Parents)

  • This study used secondary data of the Illinois Subsidized Guardianship Waiver Demonstration, Chicago Public Schools and administrative data of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. Multiple regression analysis was the main statistical method. Results revealed a positive effect of foster parents' expectations on educational achievement of foster children without disabilities. Among types of educational involvement, 'direct educational activities' showed a positive effect on math and 'supervision reported by children' showed a positive effect on reading achievement. Among indices of the quality of relationship: the presence of kinship ties, permanence achievement, and level of affection between foster parents and children, only level of affection had a significant positive association with both math and reading achievement.

어머니 우울성향과 부모행동에 대한 아동지각의 아동생활능력에 대한 설명력 (The Explanation of Children's Competencies with Mother's Deparession and Children's perception of Parents' Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of mothers'depression and children's perception of parents' behavior on children's competencies. The subjects were 729 mothers and their children with grade 5 and 6 in the five elementary schools located in T city. Data were analysed by frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA, scheff test and regression analysis. The levels of mothers' depression were found to be statistically different according to the parents'educational level, fathers' occupation, and the average monthly house income. The degree of children's positive perception of parents' behavior was different according to the parents'educational level and average monthly house income. And the degree of children's competencies was different according to mother's age, parents'educational level, father's occupation and average monthly house income. Mother's depression affected children's perception of their parents' behavior, suggesting that the lower the degree of mother's depression is, the more positively children tend to perceive parents' behavior. The most important factor that affected the whole areas of children's competencies was the children's positive perception of their mothers'behavior, and the next important factor was mothers' depression.

학부모의 학교급식 모니터링 현황 및 학교급식에 대한 신뢰도 (Current Status of Parents' Monitoring of and Level of Trust in School Lunch Programs)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of parents' monitoring of school lunch programs and to examine the relationship of parents' school lunch monitoring with their level of trust in school lunch programs. Methods: During November 2016, a web survey was conducted with 1,283 parents who had participated in monitoring of school lunch programs. A total of 621 parents completed the questionnaires (48.4% response rate) and the responses from 442 parents were analyzed (34.5% analysis rate) for elementary (n=196) and middle/high school parents (n=246), respectively. Results: Both the elementary and middle/high school parents most wanted to participate in monitoring 1~2 times per month, which was less frequent than their current practice. They showed the highest experience rate in 'food sanitation' area in both the prior training and actual practice of school lunch monitoring. They most responded 'increasing trust in school lunch programs' as a merit and 'lack of parents participating in monitoring' as a problem of school lunch monitoring. The average levels of trust did not differ between elementary and middle/high school parents. Multiple regression analyses showed that elementary school parents' level of satisfaction in the monitored school lunch programs was positively associated with the parents' level of trust in general school lunch programs. Monitoring frequency and parents' age, in addition to level of satisfaction in the monitored school lunch program, were associated with level of trust in general school lunch programs among middle/high school parents. Conclusions: There was room for change in parents' school lunch monitoring programs to meet parents' needs better. Well-managed school lunch monitoring programs contributing to parents' satisfaction with school lunch programs could increase parents' level of trust in school lunch programs.

유아의 성과 주변 환경 변인이 학교준비도에 미치는 영향 : 부모의 교육수준, 어머니의 학습관여, 교사의 지도방법 및 가정과 교실의 문해환경을 중심으로 (Influence of Children's Gender and Surrounding's Variables on School Readiness : Based on Educational Level of Parents, Educational Participation of Mother, Teaching Method of Teacher and Literacy Conditions of Home and Class)

  • 본 연구는 유아의 성, 부모의 교육수준, 어머니의 학습관여, 교사의 지도방법, 가정과 교실의 문해환경이 유아의 학교준비도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 취학전 만 5세 유아 141명, 이들의 부모 141명과 담임교사 42명이었다. 연구도구는 학교준비도 검사, 어머니 학습관여 척도, 교사 지도방법 척도, 가정문해환경 척도와 교실문해환경 척도를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 Three-way ANOVA, Spearman의 상관분석과 Pearson의 적률상관분석, 단계적 회귀분석을 통해 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 성과 어머니 교육수준에 따른 학교준비도에는 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 가정문해환경을 제외한 유아의 성, 부모 교육수준, 어머니 학습관여, 교사 지도방법, 교실문해환경 변인이 유아의 학교준비도와 유의미한 정적 상관관계가 나타났다. 셋째, 학교준비도의 하위영역인 적응영역에는 유아성별, 지식영역에는 어머니 교육수준이 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 부모와 교사가 유아의 학교준비도 증진을 도울 수 있는 유용한 자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.

청소년이 지각한 부모의 양성평등의식과 자녀교육지원 (Androgynous Equalitarianism of Parents Recognized by Adolescents and Educational Support for Children)

  • The purpose of the research lies in investigating how the androgynous equalitarianism of parents recognized by adolescents and educational support for children differ in accordance with social and population factors. The subjects were 397 adolescents of secondary schools in Chonnam. The analysis of the results was carried out using SPSS/WIN 10.0 program. The results were as follows: (1) Adolescents were found to recognize the androgynous equalitarianism in their parents differently in accordance with gender, birth ranking, academic record, and father education level. (2) Educational support of parents recognized by adolescents, showed some notable differences in accordance with type of school, birth ranking, academic record, place of residence, mother's age, father education level, form of marriage, and economic class. (3) The relationship between androgynous equalitarianism and Educational support of parents recognized by adolescents had a positive correlation. In conclusion, it is essential to provide an atmosphere wherein the budding children can display their utmost potentiality regardless of gender to grow independent way of thinking and behaving and ability. Also consistent willingness to practice education in androgynous equalitarianism for the realization of equal society for both men and women is believed prerequisite.

자폐성 장애 자녀를 양육하는 부모의 삶의 전환과정의 차이: 인구사회학적 특성을 중심으로 (Differences in Life Transition Process of Parents Caring for Children with Autism: Based on the Socio-Demographic Characteristics)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify differences in the life transition process of parents caring for children with autism according to parents' socio-demographic characteristics. Methods: Participants were 194 parents caring for children with autism. Data were collected from December 2013 to February 2014 through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: Mean scores for despairing or accepting phases were higher than those for denying or wandering phases in the life transition process. According to parents' gender, educational level, and job, there were some significant differences in the denying and wandering phases. Differences in denying phase by education (p=.033), job (p=.004) were significant. Respondents with higher educational level, and having a job showed a lower level of denying than other respondents. Wandering phase differed significantly by gender (p=.009) and job (p=.001). Mothers and those who did not have a job showed a higher level of wandering than fathers and those who had a job. However, there was no difference in the despairing or accepting phases. Conclusion: The life transition phase of parents with autistic children needs to be assessed to provide differentiated and intensive support program and help them move to the accepting phase.

부모의 아동성학대 예방에 대한 실태와 요구도 및 교육프로그램 구성 (Parents′ Level of Knowledge and Demands for Educational Program for Child Sexual Abuse Prevention)

  • This study is to conducted to find out parents' level of knowledge on child sexual abuse prevention, and their demands for a parental education program on sexual abuse prevention. Two hundred and six parents of 5 to 7 year-old children in kindergartens in Kwangju and Chonnam were surveyed. Data were analyzed by using frequencies and percentages. The results are as followed Parents have obtained knowledge on sexual abuse through mass media, guiding books and so on. They were aware that communication with children is the most effective method for sexual abuse prevention. They were somewhat at a loss on exactly what to teach and how to teach the children. and complained about the lack of educational materials. They think that the age that is most appropriate for such education is between 6 and 7 year-old, and the parents and teachers are responsible for educating chi10en on sexual abuse. For the desired content of the education, they included sex, sexual abuse, and parents' coping.

학부모의 교육 참여, 부모효능감, 학교생활 만족도, 학업성취 간 관계: 가족 유형 및 학교급에 따른 차이를 중심으로 (The Effect of Parents' Educational Involvement and Parental Efficacy on Students' School Life Satisfaction and School Achievement According to Family Type and School Level)

  • 본 연구에서는 학부모의 교육 참여, 부모효능감, 학교생활 만족도, 학업성취 간의 구조적 관계를 살펴보고, 가족유형 및 학교급에 따라 구조적 관계의 차별적인 특징이 있는지 확인하였다. 이를 위해 2018년 아동종합실태조사의 2,497가구를 연구대상으로 하였으며, t검증, 구조방정식모형 분석을 하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 한부모/조손 가정보다는 양부모 가정, 중/고등학생 자녀를 둔 가정보다는 초등학생 자녀를 둔 가정의 학부모의 교육 참여 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 구조모형 분석 결과, 학부모의 교육 참여 수준은 부모효능감을 매개로 자녀의 학교생활 만족도, 학업성취에 정적인 영향을 미치는 부분매개모형이 지지가 되었다. 셋째, 가족 유형에 따른 다집단 분석 결과, 교육 참여가 학교생활 만족도에 미치는 경로, 교육 참여가 학업성취에 미치는 경로에서 가족 유형에 따른 경로계수 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 두 경로 모두 한부모/조손 가정보다 양부모 가정이 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 넷째, 학교급에 따른 다집단 분석 결과, 교육 참여가 학업성취에 미치는 경로, 부모효능감이 학업성취에 미치는 경로에서 학교급에 따른 경로계수 크기 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 교육 참여가 학업성취에 미치는 경로는 초등학생 집단이 더 큰 영향을 미치지만, 부모효능감이 학업성취에 미치는 경로는 중/고등학생 집단이 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 가족 유형 및 학교급에 따라 학부모의 교육 참여가 부모 및 자녀 특성에 차별적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다.

교육비 지출에 대한 부모의 태도 고찰 (A Study on Parent's Attitude in Educational Expenditure)

  • The purpose of this study was to find the specific property of educational expenditure, which is a monthly total income, level of educational expenditure, effect of means of living, and psychological burden of parents of students. The subjects for this research were parents of students that is two hundred twenty nine and most of them were official administrators or sellers. The monthly total incomes of them didn't get to the highest rank, and the educational expenditure was the highest for their expenditure of means of living and universally 20~30%. Therefore, the majority of parents of students who carry a charge thinks educational expenditure to be not sufficient. They thought that it was due to demand of a high class human strength in society to the most important reason of educational expenditure.
