  • In this study, we analyzed what STEAM-related subject contents, except mathematical knowledge, are contained in 2009 revised elementary first grade mathematics textbooks. STEAM-related subject contents in the textbooks were examined by unit and by strand of the content in the elementary school mathematics curriculum. According to the results, the number and the type of STEAM-related subject contents are different depending on the unit and the strand of the mathematics content. Generally speaking, in each unit and in each strand of mathematics, storytelling liberal arts-related contents are seen the most, followed by non-storytelling liberal arts-related contents and physical education contents in order, while the number of musical contents was very small. So we need to develop different STEAM materials in order to activate STEAM education in our elementary math classrooms.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply a variety of criteria to analyzing mobile applications for early childhood education, which are now available in application market, and was also to explore how the developmental characteristics and multimedia content characteristics of early childhood could be applied to mobile applications for early childhood education. To meet these purposes, this study targeted total 61 applications for infancy education in terms of mobile applications loaded on online education categories such as iPhone App Store and Android Market. Based on analytic criteria on the foundation of content type by learning type, cognitive load theory and multimedia design principle, this study analyzed those applications for early childhood. As a result, it was found that there were needs to develop a little more various categories of applications, and there were also needs to develop such applications that they can make the best use of smart phone's performance, comply with multimedia design principles but avoid any imprudent use of multimedia.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a convergence software teaching and learning model based on flipped learning through multidisciplinary integration of the subject matter curriculum and content elements of software education so as to facilitate students' self-directed learning utilizing computers and smart devices and to apply the model to the elementary classroom and examine the effects on students' EPL interest and achievement levels. The teaching and learning model consists of four stages: content convergence, problem presentation, creative idea design, and product sharing. The results of the analyses indicated that students' EPL interest was enhanced and achievement levels were increased. The implications of the results of the study and expected effects were discussed.

Method: After the first semester in 2011, we collected the data for evaluating their own health-related life-style. Using qualitative content method, the data were analyzed. Result: Thirty-nine students participated in this study. Average age was 22.7 years, and 27 were male. Thirty-seven students replied unhealthy diet pattern; irregular meal time and binge. Four themes and 11 subjects emerged. The four themes were new perception for health and illness, evaluation of own health state, checking for health-related lifestyle, and trying to change for a healthy life pattern. The eleven subjects were chance to change their health habits, new perception about illness experience with family, uncertainty about upcoming health, worry about disease occurring, grasp the facts of unhealthy diet pattern, less exercise, growing stress, high-pressure drinking culture in the university, increasing concern for a healthy life, trying to change lifestyle, and difficulty in changing lifestyle. Conclusion: From the results of this study, we concluded that self-reflection on the health behaviors after health education with videotapes could reinforce to change health behaviors and concepts for undergraduate students.

And development of a program had been used a geological museum. A science inquiry program had developed after verifying a content validity to 3 science education experts about program's design and content selection, and then program applied to 20 elementary gifted students during 4 weeks, 14 hours. The results of this study showed that gifted students interested in an inquiry program using a geological museum, and they were in full activity. Especially gifted students replied that they lodged in their memory that inquired into activities on listening a docent's explanation about exhibits. Gifted classroom teacher also replied that gifted students saw a high level of participation and expectation. And they replied that this program supplied a chance that gifted students can understand a meaning of inquiry.

  • We have developed of a criterion that would help to select and develop performance assessments in science education. There are six categories of a criterion: Fidelity, satisfaction, content validity, fairness & suitability, reliability & objectivity, and usability. There are the total of 25 sub-categories under the six categories. Five science educators evaluated the validity of the criterion. For reliability of the criterion, Kendall's tau-b was used. Eight science educators and elementary teachers evaluated three performance assessment tasks for the correspondence of the criterion. This study also discuss the implications of this criterion as well.

  • This study analyzed and compared the characteristics in plan and practice of elementary school teachers' science-gifted classes and invention-gifted classes based on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). To do this, we selected eight elementary school teachers with experience in conducting elementary science-gifted classes and/or invention-gifted classes were selected at the gifted education institutes in Seoul and conducted individual in-depth interviews. The analysis of the results reveal that the teachers tended to organize the science-gifted classes with a focus on the exploration of causes and application activities for scientific phenomena, but tended to organize the invention-gifted classes with a focus on producing creative output based on methodology. They were all emphasizing the enhancement of creativity in planning and practicing both science-gifted classes and invention-gifted classes. However, there were also some differences in the elements of creativity required by each class. They tended to select subjects for science-gifted classes based on regular science curriculum, while selecting subjects for invention-gifted classes focused on creative design rather than considering the practical art curriculum related to invention-gifted education. They tended to pursue and practice STEAM education in both science-gifted classes and invention-gifted classes. In a way that conforms to these class goals and points, they were using experiments and practices, providing feedback to students, and conducting evaluations. However, some shortcomings were also revealed in the processes. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • The purpose of this research is to propose a model for education for sustainable development (ESD) within the geography curriculum. The study consists of two parts. The first part discusses the normal view of a model to assess the curriculum, namely the content and the cognitive dimensions. The ESD component necessitates an action program with skills and citizenship considered as the Objective Dimension. The second part of the paper examines the means for adding the Objective Dimension which follows a taking action approach through knowledge, skills, and citizenship that are consistent with ESD goals. The research procedure applied the methodology of the Delphi process. The theoretical model was initially developed by the researchers based on current practices in geography assessment in South Korea and the U.S. The model was tested using the Delphi technique by high school geography teachers and geography education faculty members in both countries who were recognized experts in their field. The research complements the curriculum and instructional activities that have been under way with the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD). The model may be used to deliberate proposals for building an ESD component into existing assessment practices.

  • WThe education information have been increased. Accordingly, the necessary of developing on education information metadata standards has been increased. By the reason, the Korea Education & Research Information Service developed KEM(Korea Educational Metadata) 2.0. And MPEG-7 was developed to describe metadata of multimedia data. In this paper, we developed a education information image retrieval system. This system used XML schema to accept education information image metadata. We integrated contents-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval to overcome there problems that content-based retrieval system can not support semantic-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval can not support content-based retrieval. As a results, we expect to handle metadata more efficiently.
