Autoinduction is mediated by signaling molecules known as autoinducers (AIs) that are produced, released and detected by bacterium itself. We recently reported that Corynebacterium glutamicum possesses an autoinduction system which secretes autoinducers during the stationary-phase of growth, triggering the expression of acyltransferase gene. However, it is still not clear what may act as autoinducers for the autoinduction in C. glutamicum. In this study, we compared the inducing effects of cell-free culture fluids obtained from a number of microbes including Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Vibrio harveyi, and Escherichia coli. Fluids from A. tumefaciens did not increase the expression of acyltransferase, whereas fluids from V. harveyi BB120 ($AI-1^+$, $AI-2^+$) did. Interestingly, the expression was increased by the fluids obtained from the early exponential-phase culture of BB120. Furthermore, this induction was not observed by the fluids from autoinducer mutants of V. harveyi MM77 ($AI-1^-$, $AI-2^-$) and BB152 ($AI-1^-$, $AI-2^+$). Unlike the effect shown by BB152, fluids from E. coli ($AI-1^-$, $AI-2^+$) still induced the acyltransferase expression. Taken together, these results suggest that C. glutamicum autoinducers seem to be unidentified molecules which do not belong to AI-1 or AI-2.

The Genetic Algorithm is one of the population surface modelling tool in the field of urban and environmental research based on the gridded population data. Taking the East-Hwasung area as the case, this study first builds a gridded population data based on the GIS databases as well as municipal population survey data. The study then constructs the attribute values of the explanatory variables by way of GIS tools. The regression model constructed with the same variables is also run as a comparative purpose at the same time. It is shown that the GenAlg output predicted as much consistent and meaningful coefficient estimates for the explanatory variables as the regression model, indicating that it is a very useful interdisciplinary research tool to find optimal solutions in urban problems.

Due to the increasing need for spatial information, there have been a lot of research related with monitoring and revision of changed regions for the acquisition of the accurate and latest information. In this paper, the optimal monitoring management plan for changed regions with respect to the revision periods was proposed. For this purpose, the representative monitoring methods, which are based on database, professional manpower and crowdsourcing of continuous revision, and aerial imagery, satellite imagery and LiDAR of cyclic revision, were investigated. Then, the properties and application status of monitoring systems in Korea were illustrated according to the methods. Finally, the optimal monitoring management plan for continuous and cyclic revisions was suggested through the comparison of properties and revisionable objects of each method. From the result, it was shown to be appropriate for the optimal monitoring management plan of continuous revision as using Internet-Architectural Information System (e-AIS) database cooperated with professional manpower and crowdsourcing, and cyclic revision as using domestic high-resolution satellite images and LiDAR data processed semi-automatically.

The results of investigations into marine incidents have become an important basis in determining not only possible causes, but also the extent of negligence between the perpetrator and victim. However, marine incidents occur under special circumstances i.e. the marine environment, and this leads to difficulties in identifying causes due to problems in scene preservation, reenactment and acquisition of witnesses. Given the aforementioned characteristic of marine incidents, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) has adopted mandatory regulations on the carriage of Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs) and Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) for ships of a certain gross tonnage and upwards, so as to reflect recent developments in radio communication and marine technology. Adopted to provide an international standard for investigations and to promote cooperation, the Code of the International Standards and Recommended Practices for a Safety Investigation into a Marine Casualty or Marine Incident (Casualty Investigation Code) recommends member states to build capacity for analysis of VDR data. Against this backdrop, this paper presents methods for efficient investigations into the causes behind marine incidents based on data analysis of VDR, which serves as the black box of ships, as well as digital forensic techniques.

Through Korean Smart-Navigation Project we are tasking with a VDES test network construction and service solution development. In this task, we design a structure that interoperates the VDES network with the service host/client simulator which is communication framework for efficient and reliable and seamless service. The proposed structure includes interface design between VDES test equipments which is VDES shore station, mobile station, gate way, service host and client. And detailed design includes message definition, interface design, operation scenario, equipment design and implementation for VDES test network. After implementing these test equipments with proposed design, we will firstly proceed the test equipment integration and interface test indoors for VDES test network. After fully verifing the VDES test network through indoor tests, we will construct the VDES shore station and mobile station and conduct the sea area tests by 2020.
This article proposes a framework to elucidate the structural dynamics of the generative AI ecosystem. It also outlines the practical application of this proposed framework through illustrative policies, with a specific emphasis on the development of the Korean generative AI ecosystem and its implications of platform strategies at AI platform-squared. We propose a comprehensive classification scheme within generative AI ecosystems, including app builders, technology partners, app stores, foundational AI models operating as operating systems, cloud services, and chip manufacturers. The market competitiveness for both app builders and technology partners will be highly contingent on their ability to effectively navigate the customer decision journey (CDJ) while offering localized services that fill the gaps left by foundational models. The strategically important platform of platforms in the generative AI ecosystem (i.e., AI platform-squared) is constituted by app stores, foundational AIs as operating systems, and cloud services. A few companies, primarily in the U.S. and China, are projected to dominate this AI platform squared, and consequently, they are likely to become the primary targets of non-market strategies by diverse governments and communities. Korea still has chances in AI platform-squared, but the window of opportunities is narrowing. A cautious approach is necessary when considering potential regulations for domestic large AI models and platforms. Hastily importing foreign regulatory frameworks and non-market strategies, such as those from Europe, could overlook the essential hierarchical structure that our framework underscores. Our study suggests a clear strategic pathway for Korea to emerge as a generative AI powerhouse. As one of the few countries boasting significant companies within the foundational AI models (which need to collaborate with each other) and chip manufacturing sectors, it is vital for Korea to leverage its unique position and strategically penetrate the platform-squared segment-app stores, operating systems, and cloud services. Given the potential network effects and winner-takes-all dynamics in AI platform-squared, this endeavor is of immediate urgency. To facilitate this transition, it is recommended that the government implement promotional policies that strategically nurture these AI platform-squared, rather than restrict them through regulations and stakeholder pressures.
In parallel with evolving information communication technology, M2M(Machine-to-Machine) industry has implemented multi-functional and high-performance systems, and made great strides with IoT(Internet of Things) and IoE(Internet of Everything). Authentication, confidentiality, anonymity, non-repudiation, data reliability, connectionless and traceability are prerequisites for communication security. Yet, the wireless transmission section in M2M communication is exposed to intruders' attacks. Any security issues attributable to M2M wireless communication protocols may lead to serious concerns including system faults, information leakage and privacy challenges. Therefore, mutual authentication and security are key components of protocol design. Recently, secure communication protocols have been regarded as highly important and explored as such. The present paper draws on hash function, random numbers, secret keys and session keys to design a secure communication protocol. Also, this paper tests the proposed protocol with a formal verification tool, Casper/FDR, to demonstrate its security against a range of intruders' attacks. In brief, the proposed protocol meets the security requirements, addressing the challenges without any problems.

Exotic species have been imported for economic purposes, but more recently, an increasing number of animals are imported as pets. With the increasing popularity of two species of turtles, Mauremys sinensis and Pseudemys concinna, the number of pet turtle owners has gradually increased since 2014. The number of turtles increased by 180 in 2017 and 281 in 2019. However, these turtle species have been abandoned to nature, owing to their long lifespans and the changes in conditions of pet owners. The two turtle species have been designated as invasive alien species (AIS) in Korea considering their ecological risks, and the Biological Diversity Act prohibits their release. The owners of Mauremys sinensis and Pseudemys concinna are required to submit the "Application for Approval of Breeding and Grace for AIS" document. In this study, the breeding conditions for the two turtle species were investigated by analyzing the information in the submitted applications for six months (e.g., the suitability of breeding facilities, number of turtles, breeding period, type of pet adoption, and local district of pet owner). A total of 614 cases were analyzed. Because only 58% of breeders provided suitable breeding conditions, breeding information and responsible pet ownership training should be offered to prevent abandonment in natural ecosystems. In addition, continuous monitoring is necessary to prepare for potential problems caused by the lack of information in many applications and the one-off licensing policy.

This study proposed a map registration method of a building construction plan drawing with shape matching of cadastral parcel polygon. In general, the drawing contains information about a building boundary and a cadastral parcel boundary. The shape of this cadastral parcel boundary should be same as that of the corresponding parcel polygon object in the KLIS continuous cadastral map. Thus, shape matching between two parcel boundary polygons from the drawing and cadastral map could present transformation parameters. Translation and scaling amounts could be obtained by difference of centroid coordinates and area ratio of the polygons, respectively. Rotation amount could be obtained by the rotation that presents the minimum Turning function dissimilarity of the polygons. The proposed method was applied for building construction plan drawings in eAIS for an urban area in Suwon. To assess positional accuracy of map registration, building polygons in registered drawings and aerial photos were compared. According to the accuracy of the cadastral map which is the reference dataset of the proposed method, the RMSE of corresponding buildings' corners was 0.95m and 2.37m in new and old urban areas, respectively.
