The electrochemical behavir of trivalent lanthanides [Sm(Ⅲ), Tb(Ⅲ), and Yb(Ⅲ)) complexes were investigated by the use of direct current, differential pulse polarography and cyclic voltammetry in aprotic media. These reduction peak were irreversible one-electron processes at $E_{pc}$ = -0.16 V, -0.35 V, -0.14 V, and -0.03 V of trivalent lanthanide complexes vs. Ag/AgCl electrode and the behavior of heavier lanthanides were decreased Sm > Tb > Ho > Yb order of the stability constant with decreasing atomic number.
Multi-period low-emissivity (low-e) filters based on [TiO$_2$|Ti|Ag|TiO$_2$] layer structure were designed and fabricated by a RF magnetron sputtering method. Optical, structural, chemical, and electrical properties were investigated with various analytical tools. Interface layers consisting of Ag, Ti, and O were observed next to Ag layers by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) analysis. The results show that Ti layers of ~ 1.8 nm protect the Ag layers from oxidation better than those of ~ 1 nm and the optical spectra of the filter with thicker Ti layers are in agreement with the simulated one. The average transmittance of a low-e filter with thicker Ti layers is reduced and the sheet resistance is slightly increased due to the increased Ti thickness.
Objectives This study aims to evaluate the size-dependent toxicity of spherical silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to an endemic benthic organism, Glyptotendipes tokunagai. Methods Ag nanoparticles of three nominal sizes (50, 100, and 150 nm) capped with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP-Ag NPs) were used. Their physicochemical properties, acute toxicity (48 hours), and bioaccumulation were measured using third instar larvae of G. tokunagai. Results The aggregation and dissolution of PVP-Ag NPs increased with exposure time and concentration, respectively, particularly for 50 nm PVP-Ag NPs. However, the dissolved concentration of Ag ions was not significant compared with the median lethal concentration value for $AgNO_3$ (3.51 mg/L). The acute toxicity of PVP-Ag NPs was highest for the smallest particles (50 nm), whereas bioaccumulation was greatest for the largest particles (150 nm). However, larger PVP-Ag NPs were absorbed and excreted rapidly, resulting in shorter stays in G. tokunagai than the smaller ones. Conclusions The size of PVP-Ag NPs significantly affects their acute toxicity to G. tokunagai. In particular, smaller PVP-Ag NPs have a higher solubility and stay longer in the body of G. tokunagai, resulting in higher toxicity than larger PVP-Ag NPs.

In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been prepared by using aqueous $AgNO_3$ solution in the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels. PVA powders were dissolved in deionized water, and then irradiated by gamma-ray with a radiation dose of 50 kGy to make hydrogels. PVA hydrogels were dipped into 0.01 and 0.05 M $AgNO_3$ solution for 1 h respectively. After that, the swollen hydrogels were irradiated by gamma-ray at various doses to form AgNPs. UV-vis analysis indicated that the concentration of Ag NPs was enhanced by increasing absorbed dose and the concentration of $AgNO_3$. FE-SEM measurements provided further evidence for the successful formation of Ag NPs in PVA hydrogels. Also, the antibacterial effect of PVA hydrogels stabilized AgNPs against Gram-negative bacteria (S.aureus and E.coli) in liquid as well as on solid growth media has been investigated. The AgNPs consolidated in PVA hydrogel networks have an excellent antibacterial effect.
In this paper, we propose a new 3D coding method for heterogeneous systems over enhanced Access Grid (e-AG) with 3D display using spatio-temporal scalability. The proposed encoder produces four bit-streams: one base layer and enhancement layer l, 2 and 3. The base layer represents a video sequence for left eye with lower spatial resolution. An enhancement layer l provides additional bit-stream needed for reproduction of frames produced in base layer with full resolution. Similarly, the enhancement layer 2 represents a video sequence for right eye with lower spatial resolution and an enhancement layer 3 provides additional bit-stream needed for reproduction of its reference pictures with full resolution. In this system, temporal resolution reduction is obtained by dropping B-frames in the receiver according to network condition. The receiver system can select the spatial and temporal resolution of video sequence with its display condition by properly combining bit-streams.
The effects of sub-ppm levels of $H_2S$ and the adsorbed water on the atmospheric corrosion of silver were studied with In situ weight balance to study the effect of the adsorbed water on the kinetic behavior and to determine the rate-controlling step, with XPS to analyze the tarnish film, and with calculation of phase equilibrium to predict the stable solid phase, the concentrations of dissolved species ($Ag^-$, $H^+$, $S^{2-}$, $HS^-$) and the equilibrium potentials ($E_{Ag^+/Ag}$, $E_{H^+/H_2}$, $E_{O_2/O^{2-}$). The results of weight measurements showed that oxygen was required for the sulfidation of silver in 100 ppb $H_2S$ and humidified environments enhanced the tarnished rate and oxidizing power. In addition, the rate determining step for tarnishing silver was shown to be changed to transport though the tarnish film.

Transparent amorphous In-Si-O (ISO)/Ag/In-Si-O (ISO) has been reported for low emissivity (low-e) applications. Effective Si doping into the $In_2O_3$ matrix led to a completely amorphous ISO film as well as a low resistivity and a high optical transmittance. The optical and electrical performances were examined by measuring transmittance with a UV-VIS spectrophotometer and resistivity with a Hall effect measurement. Consequently, low-e glass with ISO/Ag/ISO showed a high transparency in the visible region and low emissivity in the infrared region, indicating that ISO is a promising amorphous transparent electrode for low-e glass.
Hollow gold-silver bimetallic nanoparticles (AuAg-HNPs) have been synthesized and their optical and structural properties were characterized. Initially Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) were prepared using poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) as a reducing and a stabilizing agent simultaneously. AuAg-HNPs could then be synthesized via galvanic replacement reaction in a PEI aqueous solution by reacting sacrificial Ag template with a precursor compound of Au, i.e., $HAuCl_4$. Due to the presence of abundant amine functional groups in PEI, which could act as the dissolving ligand for AgCl, the precipitation problem of $Ag^+$ in the presence of Cl from $HAuCl_4$ salt was avoided. On this basis, the relatively high concentrations of $HAuCl_4$ and PEI-stabilized Ag nanoparticles could be used for the fabrication of AuAg-HNPs. Because of their increased surface areas and reduced densities, the AuAg-HNPs were expected and confirmed to outperform their solid counterparts in applications such as catalysis for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol in the presence of $NaBH_4$.
The hydroxyapatite(HAp) as a carrier the for ion exchange agent of $Ag^+$ions was prepared in semiconductor fabrication, The Ca/P molar ratio of the HAp was 1.65. The HAp is molded in shape of the antimcrobial ball and then sintered at 100$0^{\circ}C$ Ag-containing HAp(HAp-Ag) was prepared by incorporating $Ag^+$/ions in HAp crystals through an ion-exchange reaction in solutions containing 0.01M $AgNO_3$. The antimicrobial effect of HAp-Ag for bacteria such as Escherichial coli and Staphylococcus aureus has been Investigated. The concentrations of silver in the antimicrobial ball was determined by inductively coupled plasma and the amount of $Ag^+$ions was 9.0$\mu\textrm{g}$/g. The HAp-Ag exhibited excellent antimicrobial effect for bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus. The bactericidal activity was considered to be caused by direct contact of bacteria with $Ag^+$ions in the HAp crystals. The HAp would likely to be possible as a carrier of antimicrobial metal ions such as Ag, Cu, and Zn by recycling of waste sludge in the semiconductor fabrication process.

Among various metal oxides, ZrO2 is of particular interests and has received widespread attention thanks to its ideal mechanical and chemical stability. As a cheap metal, Ag nanoparticles are also widely used as catalysts in ethylene epoxidation and methanol oxidation. However, the nature of Ag-ZrO2 interfaces is still unknown. In this work, the growth, interfacial interaction and thermal stability of Ag nanoparticles on ZrO2(111) film surfaces were studied by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy (SRPES), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The ZrO2(111) films were epitaxially grown on Pt(111). Three-dimensional (3D) growth model of Ag on the ZrO2(111) surface at 300 K was observed with a density of ${\sim}2.0{\times}1012particles/cm2$. The binding energy of Ag 3d shifts to low BE from very low to high Ag coverages by 0.5 eV. The Auger parameters shows the primary contribution to the Ag core level BE shift is final state effect, indicating a very weak interaction between Ag clusters and ZrO2(111) film. Thermal stability experiments demonstrate that Ag particles underwent serious sintering before they desorb from the zirconia film surface. In addition, large Ag particles have stronger ability of inhibiting sintering.
