This paper compares and contrasts the concept of nature and the theory of evolution held by leading synthetic biologists and transhumanists in the post-genomic era. Synthetic biology, which emerged in the early 2000s, aims to design biological systems that perform specific functions with the two key concepts of "rational design" and "directed evolution". However, synthetic biology has also raised serious concerns about the creation of man-made biological materials and the manipulation of the direction and speed of evolution. It is no wonder that transhumanists, who dream of creating new, enhanced human species, have welcomed the arrival of synthetic biology. How, then, can we deal with the nature reinvented by synthetic biology? By what means can one justify research that may affect the process of evolution? What intellectual resources do synthetic biology and transhumanism share in common? What influence would the new trend of commercialization of science and technology exert upon the development of synthetic biology? Addressing those questions, this paper argues that the moral authority of nature can be restored in this post-genomic era.

The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and understand the planning experiences of dreams and vision of the youths living in poorer area, from their own perspectives. The contents of their dreams and vision, and the preparation process to realize them and their realistic expectation for the future were experientially and systematically explored by qualitative methods. The participants were middle school students living in poorer neighborhood, recruited from 24 social work agencies under the umbrella of World Visions Korea. Focused group interviews were carried out in 24 World Visions agencies. The collected data was analyzed according to the content analysis methods. The results showed that the poor youths' dreams and vision were molded by their real experiences and continuously updated or frustrated by personal interaction with surrounding environment. It was also verified that poor youths were experiencing great difficulties in materializing their vision into practical careers due to the scarcity of emotional and financial support. Therefore, we suggest that direct and indirect social support should be provided to boost their interest in dreams and future, and that participation-oriented career guidance programs should be vitalized to help them to overcome their environmental obstacles.

The aim of this study is to reveal the lived experience of gambling addicts who have chosen to move near to a casino area to live. Thus, the researchers interviewed four gambling addicts (who live in the vicinity of the casino)and analyzed what spatiality they experienced and what it meant by using the van Mannen's hermeneutics phenomenological approach. The result revealed that what affected and constituted their lived experiences essentially was not where they came from or where there are now but the phenomenon itself which they stayed close to the casino. Even though they escaped their own living space for themselves and flowed into the casino vicinity, they seemed to live only for today, however they lived to make up the past loss or dream for better future through beating the odds of gambling. Therefore they did not make an ontological living. Thus, they were experiencing an existential anxiety as a 'Sandwich Being' between the outside world and somewhere else in the world.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effects of using the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) contract-relax technique in the close kinetic chain position on the gait ability and gastrocnemius muscle tone of stroke patients. Methods: The subjects were patients who had strokes due to cerebrum infarction and hemorrhage. The subjects participated in exercise with the PNF contract-relax technique in the standing-on-elbow position with a high table, and the affected lower leg was placed in the posterior position. The PNF contract-relax technique was applied at the position in which the ankle plantar-flexors were in a sufficiently elongated position. After performing twice in each range, while the muscle was elongated, the affected side was moved further back and a new range was set. In each session, the time of contraction was set to 8 seconds, and the resting time was set to 5 seconds; however, if the patient felt tired, they received more resting time during the intervention. The Myoton Pro and 10 m walking test were used to measure the muscle tone and gait ability both pre- and post-intervention. Results: After participating in the program, the muscle tone decreased and the gait ability improved in the ankle plantar-flexors, as determined by the Myoton Pro and 10 m walking test. Conclusion: The PNF contract-relax technique can help to decrease muscle tone in ankle plantar-flexors with hypertonus and increase the gait ability in stroke patients.

The purpose of this study is to examine changes in local government objectives due to the change of local government heads in Hwasun-gun of Jeonnam province, and to analyze performances of regional development policies, regional development vision, and local government objectives setting by the 6th local election. The local government objective and slogan of hwasun-gun continued to change due to frequent replacement of local government heads from 1st to 6th local election. The slogan of the 6th local election was set as 'Luxury Hwasun, Happy Citizens' and addition, six local government objectives were set: trusted administration, shared welfare, attractive culture, vibrant rural areas, dream-planting education, and vibrant economies. The performance of local government objectives of the 6th local election showed a 90% achievement rate compared to the planned goal.

Plato's political thought is developed in , and . He hopes 'justifiable state' that all citizens can get happiness. He suggests the plan of the ideal state. And the most important element in this ideal state is philosopher-king. His metaphysics, psychology and education theory are melted in philosopher-king. But in actual, the appearance of chis ideal ruler is impossible. Therefore he finds the second best state in . Then does Plato gives up his dream of the ideal state or approaches to that closely? And ruler stands against laws or relates with partnership? This article deals with these problems. As last, we will compare Plato's ideal state and philosopher-king to God's kingdom and Jesus in the Bible.

This study aims at analyzing the trend of feeling under the neo-liberalism era through the soap operas. In particular, this article focuses on 'envy'. Unlike jealousy, envy is the feeling of comparison appearing in people in similar circumstances that is displayed within the dual relation with its characteristic of having dynamics on the fortune (victory) of the other party for an unpleasant feeling, denial and interference. However, under the neo-liberalistic order with unlimited competition as its characteristic, 'envy' has the tendency to discourse with its passion of subjects participating in the limited share of competition. This begins in 'envy' under a soap opera to lead to competition to reproduce as the drama to dream of success for self-development. Under the circumstances, the feeling or behavior of characters not showing the general pattern but to individualize with the envious behavior of evil characters to turn away from the structural context for characters of issue of suffering originated within. For example, the soap opera imagines with 'envy' for the feeling of characters to reproduce the neo-liberalistic subject in darkness as well as to transfigure the suffering or context encountered by the characteristics to present the issues.

The purpose of this thesis was to re-examine the utopian socialism of George Sand. In brief, her socialism is Christian socialism. She was heavily influenced by Leroux and Ramennais who insisted on Christian socialism at the time. This was socialism that differed from other utopian socialists of the time such as Saint Simon and Fourier. In addition, the socialism of Sand was similar to communism that was popular at the time. We can see in many writings portraying Sand as a Communist. Her novels were also written to spread her communicative ideas. However, the Communism of Sand is different from that of Marx. In this thesis, her novels, her letters, and her political pamphlets will be analyzed in comparison with Marxism in three ways. 1. If Marx's communism justified violence, her ideology is based on nonviolence. 2. Sand's Communism asserts equality for workers and capitalists. She says that if it is not the equality for all, we are not qualified to argue. 3. Finally, her Communism is based entirely on Christian values, love and solidarity.

The purpose of this study is to understand the experience and adaptation of North Korean defector who acquired Korean nurse license and living as a nurse in depth through qualitative data. The study sampled 7 North Korean defector nurses who can express their experiences well, and applied Colaizzi's phenomenological qualitative research method to draw out 5 theme clusters and 14 sub categories. As the result, subjects had proud of becoming nurse in Korea, acknowledged and accepted differences from Korean, wanted to be recognized as the Korean people, and they expected to becoming true Korean nurse by being integrated into Korean society with their passion and challenge toward a new dream. This study has helped to apprehend essence of experience of North Korean defectors as a nurse after acquiring Korean nurse license, and it is expected that it could provided basic data to realistically approach to seeking measures for the subjects to successfully adjust as Korean nurses.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been widely used in a variety of applications in innovative development; consequently, people are more exposed to this particle. Growing concern about toxicity from AgNP exposure has attracted greater attention, while questions about nanosilver-responsive genes and consequences for human health remain unanswered. By considering early detection and prevention of nanotoxicology at the genetic level, this study aimed to identify 1) changes in gene expression levels that could be potential indicators for AgNP toxicity and 2) morphological phenotypes correlating to toxicity of HepG2 cells. To detect possible nanosilver-responsive genes in xenogenic targeted organs, a comprehensive systematic literature review of changes in gene expression in HepG2 cells after AgNP exposure and in silico method, connection up- and down-regulation expression analysis of microarrays (CU-DREAM), were performed. In addition, cells were extracted and processed for transmission electron microscopy to examine ultrastructural alterations. From the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) Series database, we selected genes that were up- and down-regulated in AgNPs, but not up- and down-regulated in silver ion exposed cells, as nanosilver-responsive genes. HepG2 cells in the AgNP-treated group showed distinct ultrastructural alterations. Our results suggested potential representative gene data after AgNPs exposure provide insight into assessment and prediction of toxicity from nanosilver exposure.
