  • The free surface effects on the aerodynamic performance of 2-D wings are investigated based on the potential flow approximation. The wing is represented b source and vortex distributions on the wing surface. The steady free surface effect is taken into account by source distribution on the free surface and the velocity potentials of air and water flows are obtained. Using three different techniques, namely, positive image method, inverse image method and source distribution method, numerical results are obtained for wave elevation, pressure distribution and lift coefficient with various foil sections. The wave elevation calculated by the inverse image method is shown to be very small even at higher speeds so that the free surface effect on the performance of wings is regraded negligible. However, the wave elevations by the positive image method and source distribution method are relatively high at higher speeds and accordingly the free surface effects on wings can not be neglected.

  • Numerous of free-form buildings come up with external appearances using various types of free-form panels. If the panel types produced, transport and installation order and maintenance history are not properly managed, it is difficult to complete a given project successfully. For free-form building projects that satisfy 5 factors (proper time, place, price, product and quantity), a supply chain management technique is applied for distribution management of free-form concrete panels. In addition, the study listed the whole production process of free-form concrete panels and any necessary information, and suggested a basic model for the management. The study result will be a great help in effective distribution management of free-form panels for free-form building projects.

  • The object of this paper is to investigate the free vibration behavior under the effect of carbon nanotube distribution in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) by using higher-order shear deformation theories. In this work, we present a novel distribution method for carbon nanotubes in the polymer matrix by using a new exponential power law distribution of carbon nanotube volume fraction. It is assumed that the SWCNTs are aligned along the beam axial direction and the distribution of the SWCNTs may vary through the thickness of the beam with different patterns of reinforcement. The rule of mixtures is used in order to obtain material properties of the CNTRC beams. Hamilton's principle is used in deriving the equations of motion. The validity of the free Vibration results is examined by comparing them with those of the known data in the literature. The results that obtained indicate that the carbon nanotube volume fraction distribution play a very important role on the free vibrations characteristics of the CNTRC beam.

  • We discussed a comparison of distribution-free two-sample procedures based on placements or ranks. Iterative asymptotic distribution of both two-sample procedures is studies and small sample Monte Carlo simulation results are presented. Also, we proposed the Hodges-Lehmann type location estimator based on linear placement statistics.

  • This study was done to observe the occurrence of heterotrophic bacteria in terms of free chlorine residuals in two different water distribution systems, which belongs to both K and Y water treatment plant of S city in Korea. The data analyzed in the distribution systems show that the free chlorine residuals decreased from 0.10 to 0.56 mg/l for K, and 0.51 to 0.78 mg/l for Y. The decay of free chlorine is clearly higher in both March and August than in January. The HPC in the distribution systems are ranged from 0 to 40 cfu/ml for K, 0 to 270 cfu/ml for Y, on $R_2$A medium. In particular, its level is relatively high at the consumer's ground storage tanks, taps, and the point-of-end area of Y. The predominant genera that were studied in the distribution systems were Acinetobacter, Sphingomonas (branch of Pseudomonas), Micrococcus, Bacillus, Staphylococcus. The diversity of heterotrophic bacteria increases in the end-point area. Most of them are either encapsulated cells or of Gram-positve cocci. In conclusion, the point-of-end area in distribution systems shows the longer flow distance from the water treatment plants, along with a greater diversity and a higher level of heterotrophic bacteria, due to the significant decay of free chlorine residuals.

  • The method of Rankine source distribution is emerging as a powerful yet simple alternative for the solution of complicated free surface problems. But it has been uncertain whether the radiation condition could be satisfied exactly by distributing the simple sources on the free surface only. In this paper, it is proved rigorously that the Rankine sources, whose intensities are varying sinusoidally along the axis satisfying the free surface boundary condition, generate the radiation waves both in the infinite and finite-depth flows. A formula is derived to give the upper and lower bounds of the errors in the induced velocity computation that will be introduced by truncating the extent of source distribution on the free surface. Since the truncation is inevitable in the numerical analysis, this formula may be used as a criterion to limit the position of the field points, where velocity computation is made, away from the truncation boundary. A typical analysis shows that the maximum error will be 3.4 percent of the exact induced velocity when the field point is on the free surface two wave lengths away from the truncation boundary.

  • Dependent models in quality statistics are classified as serially autocorrelated model, multivariate model and dependent sample model. Dependent sample model is most efficient in time and cost to obtain samples among the above models. This paper proposes to implement parametric and nonparametric models into production system depended on demand pattern. Nonparametric models have distribution free and asymptotic distribution free techniques. Quality statistical models are classified into two categories ; the number of dependent sample and the type of data. The type of data consists of nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio data. The number of dependent sample divides into 2 samples and more than 3 samples.

  • Sloshing phenomenon is a complicated free surface flow problem that increases the dynamic pressure on the sidewalls and the bottom of the storage tanks. When the storage tanks are partially filled, it is essential to be able to evaluate the fluid dynamic loads on the tank's perimeter. In this paper, a numerical code was developed to determine the pressure distribution on the rectangular and trapezoidal storage tanks' perimeters due to liquid sloshing phenomenon. Assuming the fluid to be inviscid, the Laplace equation and the nonlinear free surface boundary conditions were solved using coupled boundary element - finite element method. The code performance for sloshing modeling was validated using Nakayama and Washizu's results. Finally, this code was used for partially filled rectangular and trapezoidal storage tanks and free surface displacement, pressure distribution and horizontal and vertical forces exerted on the tanks' perimeters due to liquid sloshing phenomenon were estimated and discussed.

  • The porosity of functionally graded materials (FGM) can affect the static and dynamic behavior of plates, which is important to take this aspect into account when analyzing such structures. The present work aims to study the effect of the distribution shape of porosity on the free vibration response of simply supported FG plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. A refined theory of shear deformation is expanded to study the influence of the distribution shape of porosity on the free vibration behavior of FG plates. The findings showed that the distribution shape of porosity significantly influences the free vibration behavior of thick rectangular FG plates for small values of Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation parameters.
