Time-domain hydroelastic analysis with efficient load estimation for random waves

  • Hydroelastic interactions of a deformable floating body with random waves are investigated in time domain. Both hydroelastic motion and structural dynamics are solved by expansion of elastic modes and Fourier transform for the random waves. A direct and efficient structural analysis in time domain is developed. In particular, an efficient way of obtaining distributive loads for the hydrodynamic integral terms including convolution integral by using Fubini theory is explained. After confirming correctness of respective loading components, calculations of full distributions of loads in random waves are expedited by reformulating all the body loading terms into distributed forms. The method is validated by extensive convergence tests and comparisons against the counterparts of the frequency-domain analysis. Characteristics of motion/deformation responses and stress resultants are investigated through a parametric study with varying bending rigidity and types of random waves. Relative contributions of componential loads are identified. The consequence of elastic-mode resonance is underscored.

An iterative hybrid random-interval structural reliability analysis

  • An iterative hybrid structural dynamic reliability prediction model has been developed under multiple-time interval loads with and without consideration of stochastic structural strength degradation. Firstly, multiple-time interval loads have been substituted by the equivalent interval load. The equivalent interval load and structural strength are assumed as random variables. For structural reliability problem with random and interval variables, the interval variables can be converted to uniformly distributed random variables. Secondly, structural reliability with interval and stochastic variables is computed iteratively using the first order second moment method according to the stress-strength interference theory. Finally, the proposed method is verified by three examples which show that the method is practicable, rational and gives accurate prediction.

Self-organized Spectrum Access in Small-cell Networks with Dynamic Loads

  • This paper investigates the problem of co-tier interference mitigation for dynamic small- cell networks, in which the load of each small-cell varies with the number of active associated small-cell users (SUs). Due to the fact that most small-cell base stations (SBSs) are deployed in an ad-hoc manner, the problem of reducing co-tier interference caused by dynamic loads in a distributed fashion is quite challenging. First, we propose a new distributed channel allocation method for small-cells with dynamic loads and define a dynamic interference graph. Based on this approach, we formulate the problem as a dynamic interference graph game and prove that the game is a potential game and has at least one pure strategy Nash equilibrium (NE) point. Moreover, we show that the best pure strategy NE point minimizes the expectation of the aggregate dynamic co-tier interference in the small-cell network. A distributed dynamic learning algorithm is then designed to achieve NE of the game, in which each SBS is unaware of the probability distributions of its own and other SBSs' dynamic loads. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can mitigate dynamic co-tier interference effectively and significantly outperform random channel selection.

  • 전기배선에서 전압강하의 발생을 피할 수는 없다. 전기배선에서 발생되는 전압강하는 열 손실을 의미한다. 이 열은 절연체의 특성을 변화시키게 되고 이로 인하여 절연성능을 저하시키게 되며 나아가 누전, 감전, 정전 및 화재 등의 사고를 일으키는 원인이 되기도 한다. 그러므로 전기배선의 설계시에 전압강하에 대한 최적화 설계는 안전성, 경제성을 결정하는 중요한 요소가 된다. 본 연구에서는 저압의 전기설비인 가로등, 빌딩, 지하철역사 등 공공의 안전확보가 최우선 요구되는 다중 분산부하계통에서의 전압강하가 전기배선에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 안전성 및 경제성 제고를 위한 전압강하 최적화 방안 및 설계 프로그램 개발을 하였다.

  • 전선에서 전압강하는 열 손실을 의미한다. 이 열은 절연체의 특성을 변화시켜 절연성능을 저하시키게 되고 나아가 누전, 감전, 정전 및 화재 등의 사고를 일으키는 원인이 되기도 한다. 그러므로 전압강하에 대한 최적화 설계는 전기설비의 안전성과 경제성을 보장하는 중요한 요소가 되고 있다. 이에 저압의 전기설비인 가로등, 빌딩, 지하철역사 등 공공의 안전확보가 요구되는 다중 분산부하계통에서의 전압강하가 전기배선에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 안전성 및 경제성 확보를 위한 전압강하산정 프로그램 및 최적화 방안을 연구 제시하고자 한다.

  • A study of the bending-extension-transverse shear coupled random response of the composite beams with thin-walled open sections subjected to various types of concentrated and distributed random excitations is dealt with in this paper. First of all, equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. On the basis of derived equations of motion, analytical expressions for the displacement response of the composite beams are derived by using normal mode method combined with frequency response function method.

  • Since 1960's, structural engineers have recognized that tile inherent random nature of loadings and materials as well as the imperfect structural analysis may be important factors in tile structural safety evaluation. Based on the successful developments of the reliability based structural analysis and design, the design criteria of tile standards are recently developed(or modified) in the light of the probabilistic concepts. To develop the probability-based design criteria for tile domestic buildings, the probabilistic characters of loadings acting on structures should be defined first. In this study, therefore, live load data on apartment buildings have collected and analyzed in a systematic manner, and their probabilistic characteristics have been studied. Based oil the results, the lifetime extreme values are computed and compared with current design loads. More rational design loads are suggested, which are more consistent in the probabilistic concepts.

Computational evaluation of wind loads on a standard tall building using LES

  • In this paper, wind induced aerodynamic loads on a standard tall building have been evaluated through large-eddy simulation (LES) technique. The flow parameters of an open terrain were recorded from the downstream of an empty boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) and used to prescribe the transient inlet boundary of the LES simulations. Three different numerically generated inflow boundary conditions have been investigated to assess their suitability for LES. A high frequency pressure integration (HFPI) approach has been employed to obtain the wind load. A total of 280 pressure monitoring points have been systematically distributed on the surfaces of the LES model building. Similar BLWT experiments were also done to validate the numerical results. In addition, the effects of adjacent buildings were studied. Among the three wind field generation methods (synthetic, Simirnov's, and Lund's recycling method), LES with perturbation from the synthetic random flow approach showed better agreement with the BLWT data. In general, LES predicted peak wind loads comparable with the BLWT data, with a maximum difference of 15% and an average difference of 5%, for an isolated building case and however higher estimation errors were observed for cases where adjacent buildings were placed in the vicinity of the study building.

  • 1960년대 이후 구조공학자들이 구조해석 및 설계시의 고려대상(하중, 부재저항력 등)에 내재하는 불확실성을 구조물 안전도의 중요 영향인자로 인식하게 됨에 따라 확률이론을 도입한 구조해석 및 설계법이 급속히 발달하였고, 이 분야의 연구결과에 히입어 최근에는 기존 시방서에 이러한 설계법의 도입이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 세계적인 경향에 맞추어, 국내에서도 확률론적 설계법을 도입하기 위해서는 설계시 고려되어야 하는 작용하중의 확률적 특성을 규명하는 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 아파트에 작용하는 적재하중의 자료를 체계적으로 수집, 통계처리하여 확률적 특성을 분석하였다. 또한 이 자료를 이용하여 사용기간 동안의 극한값을 분석하여 현행 설계하중과 비교하였고, 부재별로 합리적인 설계하중안을 제시하였다.
