Design and testing large FOV retinal displays on the basis holographic combiner

  • We report principles and results of design large FOV retinal display systems by software WinDEMOS and software for computer testing display systems TEDiS. We discuss results design head mounted and head up display. As combiner we are used volume interference recorded or synthetic HOE, and as the sours of the image high resolution transmitting or reflective liquid crystal matrixes on silicon (LCOS) or CRT.

  • At present, the Korean display industry lacks significantly in qualitative achievements when compared to quantitative achievements. Of course, there are various systems established according to the developments of display design organizing methods, production, and installing methods through some preceding studies related to display, but it is true that the wholistic management through display business management process which is prerequisite for this field is now considered yet. This has led to consistent and repetitive limitations, although many have undergone numerous trials and errors, along with related conflicts during implementing display business. Accordingly, organizing process and system for display business management field is the most field to be studied in order to not follow suit of the existing problems and look back on the failure factors of past display business. This study is focused on studying stage-to-stage research on organizing process and system for display business management, and aims to provide basic information for a more efficient management which can be realized during future business implementation for display culture facilities. The followings are the conclusions for this study. First, in order to successfully implement display business, the role of display business management is crucial, and the related need for display business management operations was proved. Second, the viability of 'Check-List for examining displaying product designs, production and installment' was verified, along with suggestions for additional factors to be considered in the examining check-list. Finally, third, the analyzing process of this study is focused on analyzing the facilities according to justifiable analysis factors. However, there are limitations such as corning up with subjective facts which can be known through naked eyes. Thus, the necessity for additional researches which can supplement the limitations of this study was found.

  • DVR(Digital Video Recorder), a recently popular visual monitoring system, is required to support multi camera channel display(upto 16 channels) with various display modes in real-time. For such a multichannel display system, it is well known that tearing artifacts become more serious. Thus, one needs to design a display system for DVR so that it does not show tearing artifacts as much as possible, but keeps real-time display speed. In this paper, we present our efforts in designing and implementing a display system which rarely ever shows tearing artifacts, but without degradation of required real-time display speed, and which displays character information stably without blinking.

  • The evolution of a multi viewer autostereoscopic display is described. Development of the display was originally a part of the EC funded 'ATTEST' project and continues as another EC project 'MUTED'. The design of the original display is presented and the limitations of the prototype are described. The current iteration of the design is presented.

  • A glass cockpit is an aircraft cockpit that features electronic (digital) instrument displays, typically large LCD screens, rather than the traditional style of analog dials and gauges. While a traditional cockpit relies on numerous mechanical gauges to display information, a glass cockpit uses several displays driven by flight management systems, that can be adjusted to display flight information as needed. This study introduces design considerations of electronic display in KAS Part 23 airplanes.

플렉시블 디스플레이에서 ITO층의 파괴 특성을 고려한 설계연구 (A Study on the Design of Flexible Display Considering the Failure Characteristics of ITO Layer)

  • In recent years the interest on flexible display has been increasing as a future display due to its bendable characteristics. An ITO(indium tin oxide) layer, which is part of a flexible display, can be broken easily while bending because it is made of brittle materials. This brittle property can cause the malfunction of flexible display. To analyze fracture characteristics of ITO layer, bending test was conducted commonly. However, it is not possible to know specific phenomena on bended ITO layer by simple bending test only. Accordingly, in this study, the FE(finite element) model is developed similarly to a real flexible display to analyze stress distribution of flexible display under bending condition, especially on ITO layer. To validate FE model, actual bending test was conducted and the test results were compared with the simulation results by measuring reaction forces during bending. By using the developed model, FE analysis about the effect of design parameter (Thickness & Young's Modulus of BL) on ITO Layer was performed. By explained FE analysis above, this research draws a conclusion of reliable design guide of flexible display, especially on ITO layer.

  • The needs of larger screen in mobile device would be increased as the time of ubiquitous and convergence is coming. And, the type of mobile device has been evolved from bar, slide to row. Recently, the study on the multi-display screen which has seamless gap between two display panel has been published, and moreover the System On Chip(SOC) design strategy of core chip has been the most promising Field-Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) technology in the display system. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the design technique of SOC and evaluated the effectiveness with Very high speed Hardware Description Language(VHDL) Intellectual Property (IP) for the operation of multi display device driver. Also, This IP design would be to allow any kind of user interface in control system.

지능형 헬멧시현시스템 설계 및 시험평가 (Design and Evaluation of Intelligent Helmet Display System)

  • 본 논문에서는 항공기 조종사 지능형 헬멧시현시스템(IHDS, Intelligent Helmet Display System)의 아키텍쳐 설계, 단위 구성품 설계, 핵심 소프트웨어 설계내용(헬멧 자세추적, 고도오차 보정 소프트웨어)을 기술하며, 단위시험 및 통합시험에 대한 결과를 기술한다. 세계적인 최신 헬멧시현시스템 개발 추세를 반영하여 3차원 전자지도 시현, FLIR(Forward Looking Infra-Red) 영상시현, 하이브리드형 헬멧자세추적, 바이저 반사형광학계, 야시카메라 영상시현 및 경량 복합소재 헬멧쉘 등의 사양을 설계에 적용하였다. 특히 3차원 전자지도 데이터의 고도오차 자동보정 기법, 고정밀 영상정합 기법, 다색(Multi-color) 조명광학계, 회절소자를 이용한 투과형 영상발광면, 헬멧자세 추정시간을 최소화하는 추적용 카메라, 장/탈착형 야시카메라, 머리 밀착용 에어포켓 등의 신개념의 설계를 제안하였다. 모든 시스템 구성품의 시제작을 완료한 후 단위시험과 시스템 통합시험을 수행하여 기능과 성능을 검증하였다.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of the DMI display based on ERTMS specification for the Integrated Onboard Signaling System (IOSS). IOSS is consists of ATS, ATC, and ATP based on ERTMS/ETCS Level 1. We propose an improved DMI display design which has single layout concept for the IOSS. When a train is in the ATS, ATC, or ATP railway section, it is protected by the ATS, ATC, or ATP equipment, respectively. Therefore, DMI should display the different information according to the each signaling system. We design DMI display implemented as single layout for ATP, ATS and ATC information. This single layout display has a well integrated look and feel using the ERTMS specification and layout. This is for the driver to perceive the information easily and not to experience inconvenience resulting from the sense of difference when the train crossed into the different signaling section. Finally, we show the implementation result following this concept.
