  • In recent years, there has been keen interest in developing flat panel detectors for all modalities of radiology, including gerneral radiology, fluoroscopy, electronic portal imaging, and mammography. In this paper, we report the new hybrid x-ray detector consisted of ZnS(Ag) photoemission layer and a-Se photoconductor layer to resolve problem of conventional x-ray detector such as the direct detector and the indirect detector. To design the structure of ZnS(Ag)/a-Se detector, the penetrated energy spectrum and absorption fraction was estimated using MCNP 4C code. Also, we carried out the experiment to demonstrate the result of MCNP 4C code. Experimental results showed that the absorption fraction of $500{\mu}m$-ZnS(Ag) film was above 87%, 75% at 60 and 80 kVp. As a results, we can determined the thickness of suitable phosphor and the thickness of photoconductor.

  • MgO layer plays an important role for plasma display panels (PDPs). In this experiment, ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) methode was uesed to deposit a MgO thin film and the assisting oxygen ion beam energy was varied from 100 eV to 500 eV. In order to investigate the relationship between the secondary electron emission and the defect levels of the MgO layer, we measured the cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra of the MgO thin films, and we analyzed the CL peak intensity and peak transition. The results showed that the assisting ion beam energy played an important role in the peak intensity and the peak transition of the CL spectrum. The properties of MgO thin film were also analyzed using XRD and SEM, these results showed the assisting ion beam energy had direct effect on characteristics of MgO thin film.

  • The alpha eigenvalue problem in multigroup neutron diffusion is studied with particular attention to the theoretical analysis of the model. Contrary to previous literature results, the existence of eigenvalue and eigenflux clustering is investigated here without the simplification of a unique fissile isotope or a single emission spectrum. A discussion about the negative decay constants of the neutron precursors concentrations as potential eigenvalues is provided. An in-hour equation is derived by a perturbation approach recurring to the steady state adjoint and direct eigenvalue problems of the effective multiplication factor and is used to suggest proper detection criteria of flux clustering. In spite of the prior work, the in-hour equation results give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the eigenvalue-eigenvector pair. A simplified asymptotic analysis is used to predict bands of accumulation of eigenvalues close to the negative decay constants of the precursors concentrations. The resolution of the problem in one-dimensional heterogeneous problems shows numerical evidence of the predicted clustering occurrences and also confirms previous theoretical analysis and numerical results.

  • [Fe$^{II}$(BLPA)DBCH]BPh₄ (1), a new functional model for the extradiol-cleaving catechol dioxygenases, has been synthesized, where BLPA is bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)(2-pyridylmethyl)amine and DBCH is 3,5-di-tert-butylcatecholate monoanion. ¹H NMR and EPR studies confirm that 1 has a high-spin Fe(II) (S = 2) center. The electronic spectrum of 1 exhibits one absorption band at 386 nm, showing the yellow color of the typical [Fe$^{II}$(BLPA)] complex. Upon exposure to O₂, 1 is converted to an intense blue species within a minute. This blue species exhibits two intense bands at 586 and 960 nm and EPR signals at g = 5.5 and 8.0 corresponding to the high-spin Fe(III) complex (S = 5/2, E/D = 0.11). This blue complex further reacts with O₂ to be converted to (μ-oxo)Fe$^{III}_2$ complex within a few hours. Interestingly, 1 affords intradiol cleavage (65%) and extradiol cleavage (20%) products after the oxygenation. It can be suggested that 1 undergoes two different oxygenation pathways. The one takes the substrate activation mechanism proposed for the intradiol cleavage products after the oxidation of the $Fe^II\;to\;Fe^{III}$. The other involves the direct attack of O₂ to $Fe^{II}$ center, forming the $Fe^{III}$-superoxo intermediate which can give rise to the extradiol cleavage products. 1 is the first functional Fe(II) complex for extradiol-cleaving dioxygenases giving extradiol cleavage products.

  • microRNAs regulate a diverse spectrum of cancer biology, including tumorigenesis, metastasis, stemness, and drug resistance. To investigate miRNA-mediated regulation of drug resistance, we characterized the resistant cell lines to 5-fluorouracil by inducing stable expression of miRNAs using lenti-miRNA library. Here, we demonstrate miR-551a as a novel factor regulating cell survival after 5-FU treatment. miR-551a-expressing cells (Hep3B-lenti-miR-551a) were resistant to 5-FU-induced cell death, and after 5-FU treatment, and showed significant increases in cell viability, cell survival, and sphere formation. It was further shown that myocyte-specific factor 2C is the direct target of miR-551a. Our results suggest that miR-551a plays a novel function in regulating 5-FU-induced cell death, and targeting miR-551a might be helpful to sensitize cells to anti-cancer drugs.

  • In this paper, a Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture was designed and implemented for rapid prototyping of GNSS receiver. The proposed SDR can receive various GNSS and direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) signals without software modification by expanded input parameters containing information of the desired signal. Input parameters include code information, center frequency, message format, etc. To receive various signal by parameter controlling, a correlator, a data bit extractor and a receiver channel were designed considering the expanded input parameters. In navigation signal processing, pseudorange was measured based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and appropriate navigation message decoder was selected by message format of input parameter so that receiver position can be calculated even if SDR is set up various GNSS combination. To validate the proposed SDR, the software was implemented using C++, CUDA C based on GPU and USRP. Experimentation has confirmed that changing the input parameters allows GPS, GLONASS, and BDS satellite signals to be received. The precision of the position from implemented SDR were measured below 5 m (Circular Error Probability; CEP) for all scenarios. This means that the implemented SDR operated normally. The implemented SDR will be used in a variety of fields by allowing prototyping of various GNSS signal only by changing input parameters.

  • Craniofacial cleft is a rare disease, and has multiple variations with a wide spectrum of severity. Among several classification systems of craniofacial clefts, the Tessier classification is the most widely used because of its simplicity and treatment-oriented approach. We report the case of a Tessier number 3 cleft with wide soft tissue and skeletal defect that resulted in direct communication among the orbital, maxillary sinus, nasal, and oral cavities. We performed soft tissue reconstruction using the straight-line advanced release technique that was devised for unilateral cleft lip repair. The extension of the lateral mucosal and medial mucosal flaps, the turn over flap from the outward turning lower eyelid, and wide dissection around the orbicularis oris muscle enabled successful soft tissue reconstruction without complications. Through this case, we have proved that the straight-line advanced release technique can be applied to severe craniofacial cleft repair as well as unilateral cleft lip repair.

  • Klinefelter's syndrome (KS) is a syndrome with extra X chromosome(s), in XY individuals, characterized by gynecomastia, small testes, and infertility. Additional X chromosomes can be present as variable karyotypic forms, including mosaicism (47,XXY/46,XY). The reported prevalence of KS ranges from one in 500 to one in 1,000 live males, but is probably underestimated. The classic phenotype is small, firm testes and infertility resulting from seminiferous tubule dysgenesis and androgen deficiency. The spectrum of KS includes tall stature with relatively long legs and arm span, decreased body hair, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, poor motor skills, and other important medical issues, such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, certain neoplasia. The increased risk of certain medical problems in KS can be attributed to a direct effect of the extra X chromosome, the combined action of multiple genomic and epigenetic factors, or the hormonal imbalances. Typically, chromosome analysis is not ordered for adult patients with general medical conditions, except for suspected cases of hematologic and lymphoid disorders. Even though it was found during work-up for certain disorders in adult patient, most physicians do not suspect KS or consider its impact. Therefore, understanding the pathophysiology and variable manifestation in KS is necessary, and discussions with multidisciplinary teams will help to diagnose and treat males with KS.
