  • This study proposes a predictive direct power control method in a modular multilevel converter (MMC) high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) system. The conventional proportional integral (PI)-based control method uses a cascaded connection and requires an optimal gain selection procedure and additional decoupling scheme. However, the proposed control method has a simple structure for active/reactive power control due to the direct power control scheme and exhibits a fast dynamic response by predicting the future status of system variables and considering time delay. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation results.

  • Curved integral imaging is a simple method to display 3D images in space using lens array and provides wide viewing angle. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear 3D correlator based on the direct pixel-mapping (DPM) method in order to improve the recognition performance of 3D target object in curving-effective integral imaging. With this scheme, the elemental image array (EIA) originally picked up from a partially occluded 3-D target object can be converted into a resolution enhanced new EIA by using DPM method. Then, through nonlinear cross-correlations between the reconstructed reference and the target plane images, the improved pattern recognition can be performed from the correlation outputs. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, some preliminary experiments are carried out and results are presented by comparing the conventional method.

  • An integral equation representation of cracks was presented, which differs from well-known "dislocation layer" representation. In this new representation, an integral equation representation of cracks was developed and coupled to the direct boundary-element method for treatment of cracks in plane finite bodies. The method was developed for in-plane (modes I and II) loadings only. In this paper, the method is formulated and applied to mode III problems involving smooth or kinked cracks in finite region. The results are compared to exact solutions where available and the method is shown to be very accurate despite of its simplicity.implicity.

  • In this paper, the derivation of the energy function reflecting the governor's integral control loop is presented. When integral control is considered we obtain oscillatory response of the loop at the price of reducing frequency error. In other words, as $K_I$ is inclosed, the region of stability is decresed. When derived energy function is applied to the one machine infinite bus system, we showed that this function can be used to assess stability.

  • In this paper, we present a resolution-enhanced computational integral imaging reconstruction method by using boundary folding mirrors. In the proposed method, to improve the resolution of the computationally reconstructed 3D images, the direct and reflected light information of the 3D objects through a lenslet array with boundary folding mirrors is recorded as a combined elemental image array. Then, the ray tracing method is employed to synthesize the regular elemental image array by using a combined elemental image array. From the experimental results, we can verify that the proposed method can improve the visual quality of the computationally reconstructed 3D images.

  • The variational approach for the direct evaluation of the energy difference ${\Delta}$E is studied. The method is based on the differential equation corresponding to the integral Hellmann-Feynman formula. The ${\Delta}$E is given by the expectation value of the Hermitian operator which does not involve the 1/$r_{ij}$ term. Because of its variational nature of the method, the coupling problem of the differential equations which are encountered in perturbation treatment does not occur. The method is applied to the evaluation of the electric polarizabilities of the Helium isoelectronic series atoms. The result is in good agreement with the experiment. The method is compared with the recent works of Karplus et al.

  • In this paper, an accelerated generation algorithm to effectively generate an elemental image array in computational integral imaging system is proposed. In the proposed method, the depth information of 3D object is extracted from the images picked up by a stereo camera or depth camera. Then, the elemental image array can be generated by using the proposed accelerated generation algorithm with the depth information of 3D object. The resultant 3D image generated by the proposed accelerated generation algorithm was compared with that the conventional direct algorithm for verifying the efficiency of the proposed method. From the experimental results, the accuracy of elemental image generated by the proposed method could be confirmed.

  • Recently, monitoring of tool life is a matter of common interesting because tool life affects precision, productivity and cost in machining process. Especially flank wear has a direct effect on cutting mechanism, so the various pattern of cutting force is obtained experimentally according to variation of wear condition. By investigating cutting force signal, AR(Autoregressive) modeling and correlation dimension analysis is conducted in turning operation. In this modeling and analysis, we extract features through 6th AR model, correlation integral and normalized correlation integral. After the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool life according to flank wear. As a result. a very reliable classification of tool life was obtained.

  • An experimental study on the structural behavior of connection types between approach slab and integral abutment has been done for three typical bar connections. Typical hinge style reinforcing bar detail for its connection is preferred in order to accommodate rotation of the approach slab among engineers. However, the straight horizontal bars can be used as connection detail accomodate structural capacity. Total six specimens with three types of rebar detail are tested for direct tensile and bending load. The characteristic structural behaviors are carefully monitored and all the strain gauge data obtained are analyzed. It is shown that the structural performance of all the specimens well exceed its design allowance. Several design suggestions are given based on careful reviews on the experiment.

  • The capacitance for three-dimensional (3D) VLSI interconnection line is calculated. Capacitance is obtained by solving integral equation that is the product of Green's function and surface charge density. Surface charge density is assumed that constant in each subarea, and subarea is devided by rectangular size in interconnetion surfaces. Up to date, so this integral method using Green's function is calculated by Fourier integral transformation, that it cannot help making an error. In this paper, it is proposed to use direct integration instead of Fourier integral method. And we proved accuracy of this paper in comparision with conventional results.
