We develope a high repetition rate, short distance, optical range finder for surface roughness measurements of large structures, such as a highway road, etc. For range measurement based on a triangulation principle, we use a light emitting diode and an one dimensional Position sensitive photodetector for a light source and an angle detector of the reflected light at the object, respectively. The range finder has automatic power control and electrical background noise rejection capabilities which enable it to overcome variations of an object reflectance and to eliminate time-varying, as well as constant, background light noises. Our experimental results show less than ${\pm}1.5mm$ of measurement errors regardless of an object reflectance, for $22{\sim}38cm$ object ranges which are determined by considering the installation of the range finder and the depth of surface roughness.
In this paper, a rectifier for WPC / A4WP wireless power transmission is designed. The proposed rectifier supports both WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and A4WP (Alliance For Wireless Power) and is designed with full-bridge rectifier. WPC transmits power at the frequency of 100kHz to 205kHz and A4WP at the frequency of 6.75MHz. Since the bridge rectifier uses a MOSFET instead of a diode, the reverse current flows and the efficiency is affected if the output voltage is higher than the input voltage. Therefore, we added the reverse current detector that detects the current flowing through the MOSFET and shut off the reverse current. The frequency discriminator is used because the rectifier has different frequency band. The proposed rectifier was designed using $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS high voltage process. The input voltage is up to 18V and the rectifier operates at 100kH to 205kHz, 6.78MHz frequency. The maximum efficiency is 94.8% and the maximum power transfer is 5.78W.

In this paper, we designed and tested of the passive millimeter-wave imaging system in near range. The proposed passive millimeter-wave imaging system consists two parts. The first part is a 94 GHz band millimeter imaging sensor which is coupled to an antenna, two LNAs, and a diode detector. The second part is a control unit. The control unit is consists of the 2-axes Cartesian robot, the data acquisition (DAQ), and imaging program. The 2-axes Cartesian robot should be able to scan a 2-D image of the metalic tools, IC card and plastic objects, with a raster scanning method. The passive millimeter-wave image of $20{\times}20$ pixels is acquired within less than 60s, and is immediately displayed and stored for post processing. In order to improve the image quality, interpolation methods are applied.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities of yellow and white bitter yams from South Western Nigeria using methanolic extraction and simulated gastrointestinal digestion models. The phenolic compounds in the bitter yam varieties were evaluated by high performance liquid chromatography with a diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). The total phenolic content of the bitter yams was measured by the Folin-Ciocalteu method, reductive potential by assessing the ability of the bitter yam to reduce $FeCl_3$ solution, and the antioxidant activities were determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical ($DPPH^{\cdot}$) scavenging activity, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation ($ABTS^{{\cdot}+}$) scavenging activity, nitric oxide radical ($NO^{\cdot}$) scavenging ability, hydroxyl radical scavenging ability, and ability to inhibit $Fe^{2+}$-induced lipid oxidation. The HPLC-DAD analysis revealed the presence of some phenolic compounds in the studied bitter yam varieties, with varying degree of quantitative changes after cooking. The antioxidant indices (total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, reducing power, $DPPH^{\cdot}$ scavenging activity, $ABTS^{{\cdot}+}$ scavenging activity, and $NO^{\cdot}$ scavenging activity) were higher in the simulated gastrointestinal digestion model compared to the methanolic extract, with the in vitro digested cooked white bitter yam ranking higher. Similarly, the in vitro digested yams had a higher inhibitory action against lipid oxidation compared to the methanolic extracts, with the cooked white bitter yam ranking high. The methanolic extracts and in vitro enzyme digests showed no acetylcholinesterase inhibitory abilities, while methanolic extracts and the in vitro enzyme digest displayed some level of butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activities. Therefore the studied bitter yams could be considered as possible health supplements.

Alkaloids of Vinca minor L. were characterized by HPLC equipped with the photo diode array detector and compared their UV/vis absorption spectra with an index material such as vincamine. UV/vis absorption spectra of more than 9 compounds belong to various classes such as flavonoids were shown and characterized. Extracts with ethanol or hot water were tested against the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free-radical to investigate their antioxidant activity. Based on the results, those extracts show about 14-15% of antioxidant activity of quercetine and vitamin C used as standards.

Objectives : HPL-1, a novel herbal medicine which is composed of five herbs such as Kalopanacis Cortex, Chaenomelis Fructus, Raphani Semen, Atractylodis Rhizoma and Pulvis Aconiti Tuberis Purificatum, was developed for treatment of osteoarthritis. This study is aimed to develop analytical method for consistent quality control of HPL-1 and validate chromatographic method. Methods : Chromatographic analysis was performed using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography - diode array detector (UHPLC-DAD) equipped with RP-amide column, column oven, and auto sampler. Marker compounds [protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, liriodendrin, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, ${\beta}$-D-(3-O-sinapoyl)-fructofuranosyl-$\alpha$-D-(6-O-sinapoyl)glucopyranoside and benzoylmesaconine] were separated by step gradient elution of acetonitrile and 0.1% phosphoric acid/water. The method validation was evaluated by quantitative validation parameters of linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) according to KFDA guideline. Results : An optimized method for six marker compounds in HPL-1 was established by UHPLC-DAD. The correlation coefficient (R2) with each calibration curve was greater than 0.99. The LOD and LOQ were within the range of 0.008-0.090 and $0.023-0.274{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of intra- and inter-day variability were less than 4.0%. The result of recovery test was range from 93.3-106.3% with RSD < 4.0%.Conclusions : These results suggest that the quantitative UHPLC method is precise, accurate, effective for quality evaluation of HPL-1. The method may also contribute to improve quality of crude drug preparations used for treatment of various diseases.
Analytical signal from ICP was compensated by the light scattering of sample aerosols. Reference scattering signal was generated by a He-Ne or diode laser, monitored for the amount of aerosol producing and used for the compensation of analytical signals. The result showed that significant improvement in precision could be achieved for the short-term signal (within 1 minute) from 3.4% to 0.9% RSD in signal and 14.9% to 4.2% for the long-term (10 minutes) for Be, Pb and Co. This method is very useful not only for the pulse type but for continuous type signals especially when a nebulizer is unstable. To improve long-term precision, higher stability is required in the scattering cell and detector as well as the reduction of noise from the line between a nebulizer and plasma.

A simple high performance liquid chromatography - diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) method has been developed and validated for simultaneous determination of the six components (cinnamic acid, cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, atractylenolide I, atractylenolide III, and ergosterol) in Oryeongsan. In addition, identification of six marker compounds was conducted by a LC-MS/MS analysis. The six compounds in Oryeongsan were separated on Shishedo $C_{18}$ column (5 ${\mu}m$, $4.6{\times}250$ mm) at a column temperature of $30^{\circ}C$. The mobile phase was a mixture of 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) water and acetonitrile employing gradient elution at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 205, 250, 280, and 330 nm. The developed method had good linearity ($R^2$ > 0.9997) and the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were observed within the ranges 0.01~0.15 and 0.05~0.45 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values of intra- and inter-day testing were indicated that less than 3% and 90.31~103.31% of accuracy. The results of recovery test were 90.56~106.72% and RSD range was measured from 0.84 to 2.95%. In conclusion, this HPLC-DAD method has been successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of six compounds in Oryeongsan samples.

The Ne-Xe plasmas in dense plasma-focus device with coaxial electrodes were generated for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. The influence of gas mixture ratio, Ne-Xe (1, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50%) mixture gas, on EUV emission measurement, EUV intensity and electron temperature in the coaxially focused plasma were investigated. An input voltage of 4.5 kV was applied to the capacitor bank of 1.53mF and the diode chamber was filled with Ne-Xe mixture gas at a prescribed pressure. The inner surface of the cylindrical cathode was lined by an acetal insulator. The anode was made of tin metal. The EUV emission signal of the wavelength in the range of 6~16 nm has been detected by a photo-detector (AXUV-100 Zr/C, IRD). The visible emission line was also detected by the composite-grating spectrometer of the working wavelength range of 200~1100 nm (HR 4000CG). The electron temperature is obtained by the optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and measured by the Boltzmann plot with the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE).
