  • Logic automated stimulus and response (LASAR) software is an automatic test program development tool for logic function test and fault detection of avionics components digital circuit cards. LASAR software needs to the information for the logic circuit function and input and output of the device. If there is no component information, normal component modeling is impossible. In this paper, component modeling is carried out through reverse design of programmable logic device (PLD) device without element information. The developed LASAR program identified failure detection rates through fault simulation results and single-seated fault insertion methods. Fault detection rates have risen by 3% to 91% for existing limited modeling and 94% for modeling through the reverse design. Also, the 22 case of stuck fault with the I/O pin of EP310 PLD were detected 100% to confirm the good performance.

  • In the recent years, due to long-lasting heavy rainfall events, a large number of landslides have been observed in the mountainous area of the world. Such landslides can also form a dam as it blocks the course of a river, which may burst and cause a catastrophic flood. Numerical analysis of landslide dam formation is rarely available, while laboratory experimental studies often use assumed shape to analyze the landslide dam failure and flood hydraulics in downstream. In this study, both experimental and numerical studies have been carried out to investigate the formation of landslide dam. Two case laboratory experiments were conducted in two flumes simultaneously. The first flume (2.0 m 0.6 m 0.5 m) was set at $22^{\circ}$ and $27^{\circ}$ slope to generate the landslide using rainfall intensity of 70.0 mm/hr. On the other hand, the second flume (1.5 m 0.25 m 0.3 m) was set perpendicularly at the downstream end of the first flume to receive the landslide mass forming landslide dam. The formation of landslide dam was observed at $15^{\circ}$ slope of the second flume. The whole processes including the landslide initiation and movement of the landslide mass into the second channel was captured by three digital cameras. In numerical analysis, a two-dimensional (2D) seepage flow model, a 2D slope stability model (Spencer method) and a 2D landslide dam-geometry evaluation model were coupled as a single unit. This developed model can determine the landslide occurrence time, the failure mass and the geometry of landslide dam deposited in the second channel. The data obtained from numerical simulation results has good agreement with the experimental measurements.

  • As use of digital equipment in various fields is increasing importance of processing video and signals is rising as well. However, in the process of sending and receiving signals, noise occurs due to different reasons and this noise bring about a huge influence on final output of the system. This research suggests algorithm for effectively repairing video in consideration to characteristics of its noise in condition where impulse and AWGN noises are combined. This algorithm tries to preserve video features by considering inference to noise components and resolution of filtering mask. Depending on features of input resolution, standard value is set and similar resolutions is selected for noise removal. This algorithm showing simulation result had outstanding noise removal and is compared and analyzed with existing methods by using different ways such as PSNR.

  • PURPOSE. To investigate and compare the surface roughness (SR), weight and height of monolithic zirconia (MZ), ceramometal (CM), lithium disilicate glass ceramic (LD), composite resin (CR), and their antagonistic human teeth enamel. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 32 disc shaped specimens for the four test materials (n=8) and 32 premolars were prepared and randomly divided. SR, weight and height of the materials and the antagonist enamel were recorded before and after subjecting the specimens to 240,000 wear-cycles ($49N/0.8Hz/5^{\circ}C/50^{\circ}C$). SR, height, weight, and digital microscopic qualitative evaluation were measured. RESULTS. CM ($0.23+0.08{\mu}m$) and LD ($0.68+0.16{\mu}m$) exhibited the least and highest mean difference in the SR, respectively. ANOVA revealed significance (P=.001) between the materials for the SR. Paired T-Test showed significance (P<.05) for the pre- and post- SR for all the materials. For the antagonistic enamel, no significance (P=.987) was found between the groups. However, the pre- and post- SR values of all the enamel groups were significant (P<.05). Wear cycles had significant effect on enamel weight loss against all the materials (P<.05). CR and MZ showed the lowest and highest height loss of 0.14 mm and 0.46 mm, respectively. CONCLUSION. MZ and CM are more resistant to SR against the enamel than LD and CR. Enamel worn against test materials showed similar SR. Significant variations in SR values for the tested materials (MZ, LD, CM, and CR) against the enamel were found. Wear simulation significantly affected the enamel weight loss against all the materials, and enamel antagonist against MZ and CM showed more height loss.

  • This paper presents a implementation of a chaotic Lorenz system for data secure communication applications. Here we have used PIC18F family-based microcontroller to generate the chaotic signal, and simulated waveform patterns confirm that the chaotic behavior of the microcontroller based discrete time chaotic Lorenz system. There are three R-2R ladder type A/D converters have been implemented for conversion of direct microcontroller digital output into analog waveform, utilizing this specific microcontroller relevant to this experiment work, microcontroller ports B, C and D have been utilized for its time waveform outputs X, Y and Z respectively. XC8 compiler used for the compilation of the program. MATLAB and PROTEUS software platforms are used for simulation. Finally, chaotic time wave forms, 2D chaotic attractors were obtained and secure communication analog waveforms were also verified by experimental measurement.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to remove the circulating current which can occur in the parallel connection of the high voltage series connected battery module in the battery pack. The removal way is a method of inserting a module named VVSM (Variable Voltage Variable Module) using bidirectional DCDC converter and supercapacitor in place of one or some of the cascaded battery cells in the battery pack configuration. In this module, it operates like a battery cell that can be controlled at a desired voltage. VVSM is used to match the voltages of the cascaded battery modules very easily. To demonstrate the proposed method, a PSIM simulation for battery model is used. In addition, the module with only the battery cell connected in series and the module with the proposed VVSM are made, and the two modules were connected in parallel to measure the circulating current between the two modules. As a result, it was verified that the proposed method effectively suppressed the circulating current.

  • OFDM is popular digital communication method due to its immunity to multipath fading and capability of high speed data transmission, but it has disadvantage of high PAPR in transmission signal when many subcarrier modulated signal are added to the same phase. When frequency domain high amplitude impulse is inserted before IFFT in OFDM transmitter, the PAPR of OFDM signal in tme domain can be effectively reduced. In this paper, the degree of PAPR improvement of OFDM communication system with CQAM subcarrier modulation is analysed by adopting impulse insertion technique before IFFT of transmitter. Furthermore, it is verified that additional PAPR performance improvement can be obtained by finding optimum position of impulse insertion for maximizing PAPR reduction. Through computer simulation, the degree of PAPR improvement according to amplitude and position of inserted impulse is superior to conventional technique in OFDM-CQAM system.

  • Graphene, with impressive electronic properties, have high potential in the microelectronic field. However, graphene itself is a zero bandgap material which is not suitable for digital logic gates and its application. Thus, much focus is on graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) that are narrow strips of graphene. During GNRs fabrication process, the occurrence of defects that ultimately change electronic properties of graphene is difficult to avoid. The modelling of GNRs with defects is crucial to study the non-idealities effects. In this work, nearest-neighbor tight-binding (TB) model for GNRs is presented with three main simplifying assumptions. They are utilization of basis function, Hamiltonian operator discretization and plane wave approximation. Two major edges of GNRs, armchair-edged GNRs (AGNRs) and zigzag-edged GNRs (ZGNRs) are explored. With single vacancy (SV) defects, the components within the Hamiltonian operator are transformed due to the disappearance of tight-binding energies around the missing carbon atoms in GNRs. The size of the lattices namely width and length are varied and studied. Non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism is employed to obtain the electronics structure namely band structure and density of states (DOS) and all simulation is implemented in MATLAB. The band structure and DOS plot are then compared between pristine and defected GNRs under varying length and width of GNRs. It is revealed that there are clear distinctions between band structure, numerical DOS and Green's function DOS of pristine and defective GNRs.

  • The objective of this study was to calibrate and validate the HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran) model for estimating the runoff of the Hapcheon dam watershed. Spatial data, such as watershed, stream, land use, and a digital elevation map, were used as input data for the HSPF model. Observed runoff data from 2000 to 2016 in study watershed were used for calibration and validation. Hydrologic parameters for runoff calibration were selected based on the user's manual and references, and trial and error method was used for parameter calibration. The $R^2$, RMSE (root-mean-square error), RMAE (relative mean absolute error), and NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient) were used to evaluate the model's performance. Calibration and validation results showed that annual mean runoff was within ${\pm}4%$ error. The model performance criteria for calibration and validation showed that $R^2$ was in the rang of 0.78 to 0.83, RMSE was 2.55 to 2.76 mm/day, RMAE was 0.46 to 0.48 mm/day, and NSE was 0.81 to 0.82 for daily runoff. The amount of inflow to Hapcheon Dam was calculated from the calibrated HSPF model and the result was compared with observed inflow, which was -0.9% error. As a result of analyzing the relation between inflow and storage capacity, it was found that as the inflow increases, the storage increases, and when the inflow decreases, the storage also decreases. As a result of correlation between inflow and storage, $R^2$ of the measured inflow and storage was 0.67, and the simulated inflow and storage was 0.61.

  • PLC(Power Line Communication) is being used in various ways in smart grid system because of the advantages of low cost and high data throughput. However, power line channel has many problems due to impulse noise and various studies have been conducted to solve the problem. Recently, ACDL(Adaptive Cannonical Differential Limiter) which is based on an adaptive clipping with analog nonlinear filter, has been proposed and performs better than the others. In this paper, we show that ACDL is similar to the detection of slew rate with oversampled digital signal by simplification and analysis. Through the simulation under the PRIME standard it is shown that the proposed performs equal to or better than that of ACDL, but significantly reduce the complexity to implement. The BER performance is equal but the complexity is reduced to less than 10%.
