Evaluation of AHP-Based Mobile MMORPG Game Interface Usability (AHP 기반 모바일 MMORPG 인터페이스 사용성 평가)

  • The use of games using smartphones have become universal, and the market share of MMORPG among various game genres shows an uptrend. However, MMORPG requires complex interface in view of the genre characteristics, and therefore, there are difficulties in building interface for efficient game play. This study analyzed game interface characteristics to suggest MMORPG game interface suitable for the mobile environment, and carried out a questionnaire survey evaluation on the usability of fight, exploration, character and transaction interfaces targeting 12 users. To quantitatively evaluate the subjective questionnaire survey results, this study analyzed a correlation between the characteristics of game interface and popularity using AHP. As a result, there was a close correlation between game selection & popularity and interface, and this study ascertained that interface development through game interface usability evaluation using AHP was possible.

Fashion Styles and Characteristics of Game Characters (게임캐릭터의 패션스타일 유형 및 특성)

  • This paper aims to propose the typology suitable for games by analyzing the fashion styles of game characters and define the characteristics by type. The data collected was classified into the style groups with similarities, and the game character styles were named using representative terms. Then, five styles were identified and analyzed with the focus on clothing, hairstyle, and accessories: Creative Style, Attractive Style, Grotesque Style, Usual Style, and Suit Style. Creative Style was the unique style with partial addition or removal as the creative design. Attractive Style expressed the sexual attraction by design with significant exposure of body parts and skintight design. Grotesque Style showed grotesque, eerie, and dreary design. Usual Style was a plain and practical style. Finally, Suit Style was a kind of armor covering the whole body. The analysis results in this paper will bridge the difference of opinions between gamers and developers related to fashion style and, finally, help to enhance the competitiveness of game design.

An Explanatory Study on Factors Affecting the Purchase of Smart Device Game Applications in the framework of Contents Characteristic Factors (콘텐츠 특성요인에 따른 스마트기기 게임 앱 구매결정에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • In this study, to analyze the factors affecting the purchase of smart device applications, research model based on AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) model was employed and derived consumers' priorities of smart device game applications in the framework of contents characteristic factors. Survey was conducted with 10 experts who are involved in the smart game industry. The empirical result showed that the most important purchasing factor was story(0.217). And fame(0.171), graphics(0.134), operability(0.111), information(0.093), difficulty(0.085), speed(0.068), characters(0.053), price(0.042), genre(0.028) are presented in order in terms of the importance. The order of consumers' preferences to smart device game application was RPG, Tycoon, action, simulation, sports/leisure, quiz/puzzle/board, etc. gamble. It suggested that under the environment of smart devices consumers could enjoy not only simple puzzle and board game but also complicated and difficult games such as RPG and tycoon game due to the development of smart devices.

Study of Theme Park Attractions using Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Technologies (가상현실 및 증강현실의 기술을 활용한 테마파크 어트랙션의 연구)

  • VR and AR technologies are recognized as one of important technologies during 4th Industrial Revolution Era. Also, the market size of VR/AR are anticipated to grow up to $150 billion by 2020. These technologies are used in theme parks as well as in other industries including games and films. The purpose of this study is to recognize the trend of VR/AR application in theme park attractions and recommend optimal ways for the future applications. The trends were studied from number of publications while future model was developed after visiting theme parks and interviewing the industry experts. As a result, number of theme parks and LBCs(Location Based Center) are using VR/AR in many of their attractions already, but still holds a number of issues. These issues could be overcome if Fun, Efficiency and Technology are considered holistic ways in the future. Further, conformity of the technologies and theme park concept should also be examined.

  • Although the problem of personal data leakage is reported to be serious, there has been no research that tries to excavate out that real cause of the leakage in scientific prospective. Although this topic is considered to be crucial, there have been no literatures relevant to the topic, and the reason for this limitation is that scientific approach to this problem was not feasible. In this respect, in this paper a model for such scientific analysis and a methodology of analysis have been devised. Results show that the degree of rigidity turns out be the determinant that vindicates the degree of leakage. The notion of data rigidity is revealed to be very strongly correlated to the number of hacking incidents in each country. The notion of resident data freedom was then deployed in this paper to determine the world-wide ranking for a slew of different countries. The United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea turned out to be the two extreme countries that lie in the spectrum of the scale, with UK the most flexible and ROK one of the most rigid.

  • Mobile game users tend to value the opinions from their friends or SNS when making a decision on which game to play. This is because they are not satisfied with the information on suggestions provided by the conventional mobile game recommendation systems. In this research, we made a system that can reflect user preference directly by using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). In the system, the hierarchy of AHP is composed of final goal(Level 1), evaluation basis(Level 2) and alternative(Level 3). And the system is made up of an input module, an AHP processing module, a recommendation module and database. Through comparison analysis with two conventional systems to test the performance of the system, we could find that the system got more higher satisfaction than the other systems.

  • Smartphone game market, smart phone appeared on the market and soon developed rapidly, generation change is happening. Generally, Smartphone games are only short-lived super cell's Clash of Clans is gaining popularity for over two years. So Clash of Clans this game with hold most characteristic elements of the defense and plunder on the subject analyzed the fun factor. In order to analyze the defense and plunder elements were prepared Clash of Clans and Kings of Thieves in cases. Two of the cases, depending on the fun theory Preparation, A sense of space, A solid core machanic, A range of challenge, A range of abilities required to solve the encounter and Skill required in using the abilities were evaluated in the fun factor analysis of defense and plunder elements.

Design of an Avatar Assembly System based on a Commercial Game Engine (상용 게임엔진 기반의 아바타 조립 시스템의 설계)

  • Developing 3D games of quality is getting easier as commercial game engines have significantly evolved. It is still difficult, however, for entry-level developers to create various avatars which could affect the entire game because it requires expertise in 3D design and programming. We propose a design of an avatar assembly system based on a commercial game engine, Unity. It includes the assembly, customization, and management of avatars. It also provides an avatar update mechanism via the World Wide Web(WWW) provided by Unity's asset system so that various avatars can be supplied after the initial game distribution.

  • In today's era of media convergence, users can watch a drama by choosing a story like a game or enjoy a game directed like a movie. These two media material interactive storytelling, and there have been discussions about them for many years. The purposes of this study are to propose a new branch structure for interactive storytelling and find a new perspective for the method of proceeding with a branch structure. The main research targeted a game that materialized interactive storytelling best. Based on the findings, the study proposed a volume branch structure including a plot border and adjuster concept for interactive storytelling to keep the story narrative and help the users feel interactions freely. This structure can be materialized only with real-time edited videos in the game media and will be possible in the application cases of a physical engine that continues to develop and artificial intelligence that has not been introduced in games actively.

An Effect of the Prefrontal Lobe Influenced by Game Music Mixed with White Noise (백색잡음을 혼합한 게임음악이 전전두엽에 미치는 영향)

  • The sound of digital media would be able to perform communication by stimulating body's senses. Because the sound stimuli could arouse a person into the physiological excitement and sensitivity, which appear as the changes of heartbeat, blood pressure, brain waves(EEG) signals. In this paper, we would like to examine whether the game music mixed with relaxing white noises has an effect to relax game player or not through the EEG changes of game players. For the experiment, we divided game players into group A that plays game while hearing game music mixed with white noises, and group B that plays game while hearing game music not mixed. And we measured the EEG changes of the prefrontal lobe between two groups. The result shows that the game music mixed with white noises has an relaxing effect for the left brain, but fall short of the expectations for the right brain. It would be a basic research which will contribute to the development of serious games for psychotherapy using relaxing white noises.
