National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) in Korea, through National Geographic Information System (NGIS) Program, has prepared to generate and disseminate digital elevation data for Korea. This is a pilot research to propose a policy for generation, maintenance, and supply of Korea Digital Elevation Data (KDED). Customer demands for accuracy and resolution of DEM was surveyed through questionnaire. In order to investigate the quality, the technical efficiency and the production cost, a tentative DEM in a small test site was generated based on digital topographic maps (original paper map scale 1 :5,000), analytical plotter, and LIDAR. Accuracy standard for KDED was derived based on source data and generation methods. As results of this research, we recommend uniformly spaced grid model for KDED. Its preferable grid space is 5m in urban and its vicinity; and 10m in field and mountainous area. LIDAR has been valuated as a proper KDED generation method fulfilling customers demand for the accuracy.
The goal of this study is to generate a landslide potential map using GIS(Geographic Information System) based method. A simple and efficient algorithm is proposed to generate a landslide potentialities map from DEM(Digital Elevation Model) and existing maps. The categories of controlling factors for landslides, aspect of slope, soil, vegetation are defined. The weight value for landslide potentialities is calculated from AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. Slope and Slope-direction is extracted from DEM, and soil information is extracted from digital soil map. Also, vegetation information is extracted from digital vegetation map. Finally, as overlaying, landslide potentialities map is made out, and it is compared with landslide place.

Recent floodplain data are important for river master plan, storm and flood damage reduction comprehensive plan and pre-disaster impact assessment. Hazard map, base of floodplain data, is being emphasized as important method of non-structural flood prevention and consist of inundation trace map, inundation expected map and hazard information map. Inundation trace map describes distribution of area that damaged from typhoons, heavy rain and tsunamis and includes identified flood level, flood depth and flood time from flooding area. However due to lack of these data by local government, which are foundational and supposed to be well prepared nationwide, having hard time for making inundation trace map or hazard information map. To overcome this problem, time consumption and budget reduction is required through various research. From this study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) from image material from UAVS (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System) and numeric geographic map from National Geographic Information Institute are used for calculating flooding damaged area and compared with inundation trace map. As results, inundation trace map DEM based on image material from UAVS had better accuracy than that used DEM based on numeric geographic map. And making hazard map could be easier and more accurate by utilizing image material from UAVS than before.

The objective of the study is 10 know the relation of landslide occurrence with using TPI (Topographic Position Index) in the Pyungchang County. Total 659 landslide scars were detected from aerial photographs. To analyze TPI, 100m SN (Small-Neighborhood) TPI map, 500m LN (Large-Neighborhood) TPI map, and slope map were generated from the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data which are made from 1 : 5,000 digital topographic map. 10 classes clustered by regular condition after overlapping each TPI maps and slope map. Through this process, we could make landform classification map. Because it is only to classify landform, 7 classes were finally regrouped by the slope angle information of landslide occurrence detected from aerial photography analysis. The accuracy of reclassified map is about 46%.

Supplying high-resolution satellite image, we take much interest in the update and the revision of digital map and thematic map based on the satellite image. This study presented the possibility of the update and the revision to the existing digital map on a scale of l/5,000 and 1/25,000 to take advantage of the IKONOS satellite image. We performed geometric correction to make use of the ground control points of the existing digital map in IKONOS mono-image and created ortho-image by extracting digital elevation model from three dimensional contour data and altitude on the existing digital map. We revised changed features in the method of screen digitizing by overlapping orthorectified satellite image and existing digital map and flawed features of the unchanged area on the satellite images for positional accuracy analysis. As a result, rectification error is calculated at $\pm$3.35m by RMSE. There is a good possibility of update of digital map under the scale of 1/10,000. It is possible to the update of the large scale digital map over the scale of l/5,000, as if we used the method of stereo image and ground control point surveying.

This research addresses the experimental application of the digital close-range photogrammetric technique for 3D deformation measurement and visualization of road slope. The 3D displacements were extracted by the photo-triangulation based on the bundle adjustment method using the digital imagery. In addition, we produced the digital elevation models, the digital orthorectified images and the 3D perspective view images of the slope employing a digital photogrammetric workstation. Also the inclination map of the slope was generated as the data for monitoring and managing dangerous slopes.

There are two feature collection methods in digital mapping using the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Photogrammetry: vectorization and stereo plotting. In vectorization, planar information is extracted from orthomosaics and elevation value obtained from a DSM (Digital Surface Model) or a DEM (Digital Elevation Model). However, the exact determination of the positional accuracy of 3D features such as ground facilities and buildings is very ambiguous, because the accuracy of vectorizing results has been mainly analyzed using only check points placed on the ground. Thus, this study aims to review the possibility of 3D spatial information acquisition and digital map production of vectorization by analyzing the corner point coordinates of different layers as well as check points. To this end, images were taken by a Phantom 4 (DJI) with 3.6 cm of GSD (Ground Sample Distance) at altitude of 90 m. The outcomes indicate that the horizontal RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of vectorization method is 0.045 cm, which was calculated from residuals at check point compared with those of the field survey results. It is therefore possible to produce a digital topographic (plane) map of 1:1,000 scale using ortho images. On the other hand, the three-dimensional accuracy of vectorization was 0.068~0.162 m in horizontal and 0.090~1.840 m in vertical RMSE. It is thus difficult to obtain 3D spatial information and 1:1,000 digital map production by using vectorization due to a large error in elevation.

One of the basic tasks in hydrological analysis is to delineate drainage basins and channel networks. Characteristics of channel networks and drainage basin parameters have been used widely in hydrologic calculation and modeling. DEMs(Digital Elevation Models) are generally used to automatically map the channel networks and to delineate drainage basins. This paper presents an effort to analyze basin characteristics using various DEMs. The quantitative analysis of channel networks begins with Horton's method of classifying stream according to Horton orders in hydro-geomorphy. HGSIS(Hydro-Geo-Spatial Information System) is possible to extract parameters. Usually, hydrologists. surveyors and GSIS researchers have some difficulties in accessing satellite images and in extracting DEMs from them. Therefore, the extracted DEMs from contours of digital map is widely used to have the basic works of hydrological analysis. This study presents proper DEMs to calculate Horton's orders, width function, drainage area, main channel length, total channel length, basin elevation and basin slope at digital map of 1:25,000 scale.

Satellite remote sensing images have much more information compared to a paper map. But these images are generally handled as particular image format gained from optical sensor, and must be processed and analyzed by computer with high priced digital image processing system. For the extraction of digital elevation model(DEM) from satellite image, we used the overlay image by SPOT-3 of Chuncheon area at the Kangwon province. According to the image condition, the precious geometric correction, the bundle adjustment for ortho-image generation and the stereo image mapping by several technical approaches were processed. So that we developed the methods of automatic DEM extraction and efficient stereo image map generation which can improve the digital image processing steps. Also, we applied the multiple direction birdeye view image for modeling and analysis using the remotely sensed overlay images with high resolution.

As airborne laser scanning technique is developed with high vertical accuracy recently, there come many studies on DEM(digital elevation model creation, building extraction, flood risk mapping and 3D virtual city modeling. This study applied point comparative method, contour comparative method and digital map with scale 1/5,000 to calculate RMSE of DEM in according to resolution that was constructed using rawdata being acquired by airborne laser scanning. As a result, point comparative method showed lower DEM standard error than contour comparative method, it is a reason that contour comparative method was not carried out detailed grid calculation for point comparative method. Also, digital map with scale 1/5,000 showed higher DEM standard error than point comparative method and contour comparative method in below 25.4m that is average horizontal distance among contour line, and showed similar result with contour comparative method in over 25.4m.
