  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of a stereolithographic surgical guide that was made with information from intraoral digital impressions and cone beam CT (CBCT). Materials and methods: Six sets of resin maxilla and mandible models with missing teeth were used in this study. Intraoral digital impressions were made. The virtual models provided by these intraoral digital impressions and by the CBCT scan images of the resin models were used to create a surgical guide. Implant surgery was performed on the resin models using the surgical guide. After implant placement, the models were subjected to another CBCT scan to compare the planned and actual implant positions. Deviations in position, depth and axis between the planned and actual positions were measured for each implant. Results: The mean deviation of the insertion point and angulation were 0.28 mm and $0.26^{\circ}$, apex point were 0.11 mm and 0.14 mm respectively. The implants were situated at a mean of 0.44 mm coronal to the planned vertical position. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that stereolithographic surgical guides created without the use of impressions and stone models show promising accuracy in implant placement.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the measurement error between conventional films, digital cephalographs and hardcopy. The material consisted of 29 cephalographs which used image modality of Asahi CX-90SP in the Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital. One observer measured fiducial measurements at an interval of four weeks. Measurement error was tested by Dahlberg's formula. A paired t-test was used to detect it between each modality. The results are as follows; 1. The monitor-displayed digital image showed enlargement compared with the conventional image. The cephalometric measurements of the monitor-displayed digital image and conventional image were no statistically significant difference except SNB. 2. In conventional image, measurement errors of linear and angular measurements were 0.23mm, $0.36^{\circ}$, respective. In monitor-displayed digital image, measurement errors of linear and angular measurements were 0.63mm, $0.48^{\circ}$ respective. 3. The reduction ratio of hardcopy was 1.01% compared to the monitor-displayed digital image. Based on the results, it indicates that the digital cephalographs and hardcopy using storage phosphor digital radiography showed the same accuracy as the conventional films in clinical use.

  • This paper has been proposed a structure composed of FIRs and IIR filters as digital interpolation filter to integrate the off-chip analog low-pass filter of audio DAC. The passband ripple (>$0.41{\times}fs$), passband attenuation(>at$0.41{\times}fs$) and stopband attenuation(<$0.59{\times}fs$) of the ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ modulator output using the proposed digital interpolation filter had ${\pm}0.001[dB]$, -0.0025[dB] and -75[dB], respectively. Also the inband group delay was 30.07/fs[s] and the error of group delay was 0.1672%. Also, the attenuation of stopband has been increased -20[dB] approximately at 65[kHz], out-of-band. Therefore the RC products of analog low-pass filter on chip have been decreased compared with the conventional digital interpolation filter structure.

  • This investigation was performed to test the readability of the video based digital radiography, that can be applied clinically, compared with the periapical radiograph. The experiments were performed with IBM-PC/AT compatible, video camera and ADC (analog-digital converter). And spatial resolution was 512 X 480 with 256 (8 bit) gray levels. The radiographs obtained by using variable steps of exposure time were digitized. and then the digital images were analyzed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. There was no remarkable difference in readability between the radiographs and their digital images. However, under over exposure the digital images were superior to the radiographs in readability and vice versa. 2. As the exposure time was increased, the gray level of the digital image was decreased proportionally. 3. The correlation beween the regions of interest and the aluminum step wedges were relatively close; R=0.9965 (p <0.001).

  • This study was designed to analyze the relationship among the motivations for the use of digital devices, attitudes toward the use of digital devices and performance resulting from the use of digital devices in middle-aged and elderly groups by using a path analysis. For an empirical analysis, the 2018 Survey on the Digital Divide by the National Information Society Agency was referenced, analyzing the data of 1,664 people, selected through listwise deletion from total 2,303 people aged 55 or over. A close examination of how measuring variables reflect potential variables (motivations for, attitudes toward and performance resulting from the use of digital devices) showed a significance of 0.001, which suggests that each individual measuring variable does reflect the potential variables. Evaluation of the pathway factors of the structural model from the motivations for the use of digital devices to the attitudes toward the use of digital devices (β=0.847) and from the attitudes toward the use of digital devices to the performance resulting from the use of digital devices (β= 0.745) revealed significant statistical effects. The results of this study suggest that the motivations for the use of digital devices does not directly enhance the digital device use performance, but that it can improve the attitudes toward the use of digital devices, which can in turn increase the performance resulting from the use of digital devices. The analysis holds significance that it has presented practical and policy implications.

  • Purpose : To compare the diagnostic accuracy of proximal caries detection between Kodak Insight film and the Biomedisys CDX2000HQ digital (CCD) sensor. Materials and Methods: 156 proximal surfaces of extracted teeth, 78 of which had chemical artificial caries, were used in this study. Four observers interpreted the radiographs using a five-point confidence rating scale to record their diagnoses. The results were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curves, ANOVA and Kappa values. Result: Analysis using receiver operating characteristic curves revealed the areas under each curve which indicated a diagnostic accuracy of 0.951 in Insight and 0.952 in CDX2000HQ digital sensor. ANOVA revealed no significant differences between the two images with respect to caries detection. Kappa values indicated that the mean intra-observer agreement was 0.85 and inter-observer agreement 0.71 in conventional radiography. In digital radiography, the mean intra-observer agreement was 0.84 and inter-observer agreement 0.72. Conclusion: The results suggest that no significant difference exists between the two modalities for artificial caries detection and that CDX2000HQ was as good as Insight film for this purpose.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to compare skin entrance dose of digital radiography with that of film radiography and to show the dose reduction achievement with digital systems at 11 dental schools in Korea. Materials and Methods: Forty six intraoral radiographic systems in 11 dental schools were included in this study. Digital sensors were used in 33 systems and film was used in 13 systems. Researchers and the volunteer visited 11 dental schools in Korea. Researchers asked the radiologic technician (s) at each school to set the exposure parameters and aiming the x-ray tube for the periapical view of the mandibular molar of the volunteer. The skin entrance doses were measured at the same exposure parameters and distance by the technician for each system with a dosimeter (Multi-O-Meter : Unfors instruments, Billdal, Sweden). Results: The median dose was $491.2{\mu}Gy$ for digital radiography and $1,205.0{\mu}Gy$ for film radiography. The skin entrance dose in digital radiography was significantly lower than that of film radiography (p<0.05). Conclusion: Fifty-nine percent skin entrance dose reduction with digital periapical radiography was achieved over the film radiography in Korean dental schools.

  • A new dual-loop digital delay-locked loop (DLL) using a hybrid (binary + sequential) search algorithm is presented to achieve both wide-range operation and high delay resolution. A new phase-interpolation range selector (PIRS) and a variable successive approximation register (VSAR) algorithm are adopted to resolve the boundary switching and harmonic locking problems of conventional digital DLLs. The proposed digital DLL, implemented in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, occupies an active area of $0.19mm^2$ and operates over a wide frequency range of 0.15-1.5 GHz. The DLL dissipates a power of 11.3 mW from a 1.8 V supply at 1 GHz. The measured peak-to-peak output clock jitter is 24 ps (effective pk-pk jitter = 16.5 ps) with an input clock jitter of 7.5 ps at 1.5 GHz. The delay resolution is only 2.2 ps.
