  • Salivary research is at a critical crossroads regarding the clinical application of the basic knowledge. The purpose of this article is to introduce the current progress on salivary research to Korean dental scientists. The accumulated results based on advance technologies such as protein chemistry, molecular biology, and structural biology have showed that salivary macromolecules need structural requirements for proper function. Currently, several concepts or principles, which can be applied to salivary macromolecules, have been suggested. These include the role of molecules' conformation on biological activity, their multifunctional nature, their redundancy of function, their amphifunctional properties, and the potential importance of complexing between molecules. These concepts and the information available will help the development of saliva substitutes, the design of drug carriers and chimera molecules with enhanced function and the development of gene therapy protocols. These approaches will alleviate or restore lost salivary function and can be used to treat various kinds of oral and systemic diseases.

  • User Experience (UX) and Experience Innovation have been emphasized in the process of New Product Development (NPD). However, previous works which were conducted within the theme of UX mostly focused on the fragmentary aspects of user's experience in a specific usage-context only. For this reason, it is always hard to deal with questions on how to define the abstract concept of UX and how to apply this important keyword in actually NPD process both for satisfying potential users and for setting a market strategy. To address this issue, we focused on the fact that UX has an aspect of composition like pattern and structure. It means that we can understand the context of UX with clarifying characteristics of relations between user and experiential objects. Also, we referred to two sub-concepts of Complexity, Density and Centrality, as representative characteristics of relations in usage-context. Based on this theoretical background, we attempted to find UX design principles and concepts for NPD from the actual example cases of products and services in the real market. From these whole study process, we expect that our findings could have implications for academic and practical areas within the theme of Human-Centered Innovation.

  • In airport terminal, aural information is transmitted during 24 hours a day including announcement, background music and emergency control. So, clear sound is mostly necessary to transmitted to the passengers in airports. IIA (Incheon International Airport) is one of the largest airports accommodating 45 million people a year which have been built since 2001. There are currently three passenger terminals including Terminal 1 & 2, and boarding concourse. The $2^{nd}$ passenger terminal is under construction to expand the spaces which will be finished in 2020. The present work aims to explain the design principles of both architectural acoustics and electo-acoustics which have been applied to all the terminal buildings in IIA including ticketing counter, great hall, departure concourse and transportation center. Also, the acoustical performances of those spaces were examined. As a result, acoustic standards for airport were suggested. Architectural concepts for designing ceiling spaces and sound absorption treatments were suggested. Also, electro-acoustic design principles were commented.

  • This study examines the content of vectors and matrices in Artificial Intelligence Mathematics textbooks (AIMTs) from the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum. We analyzed the implementation of foundational mathematical concepts, specifically definitions and related sub-concepts of vectors and matrices, in these textbooks, given their importance for understanding AI. The findings reveal significant variations in the presentation of vector-related concepts, definitions, sub-concepts, and levels of contextual information and descriptions such as vector size, distance between vectors, and mathematical interpretation. While there are few discrepancies in the presentation of fundamental matrix concepts, differences emerge in the subtypes of matrices used and the matrix operations applied in image data processing across textbooks. There is also variation in how textbooks emphasize the interconnectedness of mathematics for explaining vector-related concepts versus the textbooks place more emphasis on AI-related knowledge than on mathematical concepts and principles. The implications for future curriculum development and textbook design are discussed, providing insights into improving AI mathematics education.

  • To understand natural or social phenomena, we need various information, knowledge, and thought skills. In this context, mathematics and sciences provide us with excellent tools for that purpose. This explains the reasons why there is always significant emphasis on mathematics and sciences in school education; some of the general goals in school education today are to illustrate physical phenomena with mathematical tools based on scientific consideration, to encourage students understand the mathematical concepts implied in the phenomena, and provide them with ability to apply what they learned to the real world problems. For the mentioned goals, we extract six fundamental principles for the integrated mathematics and science education (IMSE) from literature review and suggest a instructional design model. This model forms a fundamental of a case study we performed to which the IMSE was applied and tested to collect insights for design and practice. The case study was done for 10 students (2 female students, 8 male ones) at a coeducational high school in Seoul, the first semester 2009. Educational tools including graphic calculator(Voyage200) and motion detector (CBR) were utilized in the class. The analysis result for the class show that the students have successfully developed various mathematical concepts including the rate of change, the instantaneous rate of change, and derivatives based on the physical concepts like velocity, accelerate, etc. In the class, they described the physical phenomena with mathematical expressions and understood the motion of objects based on the idea of derivatives. From this result, we conclude that the IMSE builds integrated knowledge for the students in a positive way.

  • Contemporary architecture tends to deconstruct modern architecture based on rationalization just like reductionism and functionalism and secedes from it. It means change from mechanical to organic and ecological view of the world. According to these changes, consideration of a compositive relationship presented variety and complexity in architecture. Thus, the modern speculation based on rationalism cannot provide an alternative interpretation about complicated architectural phenomena. At this point in time, the purpose of this study is to investigate the possibilities of the fractal as an alternative tool of analysis and design in contemporary architecture. In this study, two major aspects are discussed. First, the fractal concepts just like 'fractal dimension', 'box-counting dimension' and 'fractal rhythm' can be applied to analysis in architecture. Second, the fractal formative principles just like 'scaling', 'superimposition trace', 'distortion' and 'repetition' can be applied to design in architecture. Fractal geometry similar to nature's patterned order can provide endless possibilities for analysis and design in architecture. Therefore further study of fractal geometry should be conducted synthetically from now on.
