Effects of Mentoring Senior Core Fundamental Nursing Skills Education on Clinical Competence and Critical Thinking Disposition in Nursing Students (핵심기본간호술 선배멘토링교육이 간호대학생의 임상수행능력과 비판적 사고성향에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of mentoring senior core fundamental nursing skills education on clinical competence and critical thinking disposition in nursing students. The research design was a one group pre-posttest design and the participants were 57 nursing students. The contents consisted of 3 core fundamental nursing skills of vital sign, nelaton catheterization and subcutaneous injection and total duration of 6 hours. Mentoring seniors conducted to rapport forming & education and evaluated them after exercise and evaluation under the guidance of professor. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires in pre-test and post-test, the collected data were analyzed using paired t-tests. The result shows the scores of clinical competence and critical thinking disposition were increased significantly after mentoring senior core fundamental nursing skills education in nursing students. The results indicate that this study was effective in improving nursing students clinical competence and critical thinking disposition in core fundamental nursing skills and is expected to be utilized in nusing practice education. Additional studies including those on control groups are recommended to compare difference between the experimental group and control group.

Development and Effects of Emotional Intelligence Program for Undergraduate Nursing Students: Mixed Methods Research (간호대학생을 위한 감성지능 향상 프로그램 개발 및 효과검증: 혼합연구 설계 적용)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test the effects of an emotional intelligence program for undergraduate nursing students. Methods: The study design was a mixed method research. Participants were 36 nursing students (intervention group: 17, control group: 19). The emotional intelligence program was provided for 4 weeks (8 sessions, 20 hours). Data were collected between August 6 and October 4, 2013. Quantitative data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, t-test, repeated measure ANOVA, and paired t-test with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Quantitative results showed that emotional intelligence, communication skills, resilience, stress coping strategy, and clinical competence were significantly better in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the qualitative results, the nursing students experienced improvement in emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationships, and empowerment, as well as a reduction in clinical practice stress after participation in the emotional intelligence program. Conclusion: Study findings indicate that the emotional intelligence program for undergraduate nursing students is effective and can be recommended as an intervention for improving the clinical competence of undergraduate students in a nursing curriculum.

Development and Evaluation of a Simulation-based Education Course for Nursing Students (간호학생을 위한 시뮬레이션 기반교육과정 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a simulation-based education course and to evaluate the results after the application for second year nursing students. Methods: This study was a non-equivalent control pre-post design. Based on the clinical situation scenarios about patients with COPD and MI, a total of two simulation-based learning modules was developed. Pretest and posttest was conducted to evaluate the difference in critical thinking disposition, problem solving, and clinical competence between two groups of 102 students for the experimental group, 2007 and 90 students for the control group, 2006. The experimental group conducted a clinical performance evaluation in the final test, on December 10, 2007. Results: In the experimental group, knowledge related to learning objectives was significantly increased and core intervention was performed almost exactly, but the same result was not observed in domains of analysis of laboratory test, and nursing education for patients. Self-evaluated clinical competence and problem solving level were significantly more improved in the experimental group than control group, but critical thinking disposition level wasn't. Conclusion: In conclusion, a simulation-based education course needs to utilize self-directed learning module like computer-based learning through web contents and MicroSim and video productions for improving nursing students' critical thinking.

The Effect of the Flipped Learning on Self-efficacy, Critical Thinking Disposition, and Communication Competence of Nursing Students (플립러닝을 적용한 수업이 간호대학생의 자기효능감, 비판적 사고능력, 의사소통능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to test the effects of flipped learning for undergraduate nursing students. Methods: The study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Participants were 140 nursing students (experimental group=70, control group=70). The flipped learning was provided for 6 times (18 hours). Data were collected between March 7 and May 30, 2016. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, t-test, paired t-test with SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: The results showed that self-efficacy (t=4.67, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (t=6.55, p<.001), and communication competence (t=3.57, p=.001) were significantly higher than in the experimental group than in the control group. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that the flipped learning has proven to be influential educational program for improving the self-efficacy, critical thinking disposition, and communication competence of nursing students. The flipped learning was an effective teaching program for nursing student, and need to develop other nursing major subjects.

The Effects of Web-Contents Learning for Adult-Care Practice (성인간호학 실습지원 웹 콘텐츠의 학습효과)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of Web-Contents Learning by nursing students on nursing knowledge, self-directed learning and clinical competence. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group pre-post test. For the study, 146 nursing students were selected from three colleges. Seventy-six were experimental subjects and 70 were control subjects. The subjects in the experimental group studied Web-Contents along with four weeks of clinical practice. Data were collected by structured questionnaires and analyzed using the SPSS program. Result: The experimental group showed significant increase in their nursing knowledge (t=-3.866, p=.001). However, no significant differences were observed between the two groups in self-directed learning (t=-.759, p=.449) and clinical competence (F=.891, p=.347). Conclusion: From our investigation, the present study suggests some implication for learner-related variables. Elaboration of experimental design to validate the effects of Web-Contents Learning should be carried out.

Influence of MTB Members' Amusement Factor on Leisure Commitment

  • Purpose: This study sought to explore the effects of sport enjoyment on leisure commitment. Research design, data, and methodology: Subjects of this study are members of MTB participation in Seoul and Gyeonggi area and were selected by purposive sampling out of non-probability sampling. 295 questionnaires were collected and 288 questionnaires were used for the study. To analyze data, frequency analysis, factorial analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis were employed. Results: First, as for leisure satisfaction and leisure commitment pursuant, there was significant difference in gender, age, the number of participation in weekly leisure, and hours of participation in weekly leisure. Second, regarding MTB participants' amusement and leisure satisfaction competence had significant influence on all the sub-factors of leisure satisfaction and that both achievement and competence had impacts on social leisure satisfaction. Third, regarding effects on leisure commitment, competence of amusement had impacts on cognitive and behavioral leisure commitment. Fourth, regarding relationships between leisure satisfaction and leisure commitment, satisfaction of mental leisure, social leisure, relaxation leisure, physiological leisure and leisure satisfaction had significant influence on cognitive commitment. Conclusions: Summary of above results showed that MTB participants' amusement factor had significant influence on leisure satisfaction and leisure commitment. Implications were discussed. Priorities Analysis of NCS Vocational Key Competence of Nurse using AHP Method (AHP기법을 활용한 간호사의 NCS직업기초능력 우선순위 분석)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the research is understand the priorities of national competency standards vocational key competence factors in nurse who is work in Seoul and Incheon. Methods: The design of this study is descriptive investigation research, and the subjects were 144 nurse. we establish the vocational key competency defined in national competency standards as analytic hierarchy analysis model. The vocational key competency has 10 categories and 34 sub-categories. And based on the survey in nurse, the weight representing relative importance of each factor were calculated by using analytic hierarchy process method. Results: The analytic hierarchy process analysis on 10 categories showed that professional ethics(0.149) was higher than any other categories while that of numeracy(0.040) was at the bottom. And the analysis on sub-categories revealed that the most important factors in each categories included the Ethical community(Professional ethics), Conflict management skills(Interpersonal skills), Problem solving capability(Problem-solving skills), Listening skills(Communication skills), Applicable technical skills(Technical skills), Ability to understand business(Ability to understand organizational structures), Information processing capabilities(Information capacity), Self-management skills(Self-development capability), Ability to manage time(Resource management capabilities), Basic math skills(Numeracy). Conclusions: The results in this study can be used as basic data for the development of liberal arts curriculum for Nursing.

  • Purpose: The current study aims at knowing and testing factors supporting business and how to distribute it for resilience business in new normal era. Factors Supporting business resilience will be seen in terms of entrepreneurial competence, technology utilization and government support for business resilience through entrepreneurial spirit as an intervening variable. Research design, data, and methodology: A constructed questionnaire in direct survey and interview was conducted with 97 respondents in South Sulawesi. Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis, was utilized to analyze and verify all the data. Results: This study indicated entrepreneurial competence and utilization of technology have a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial spirit, while government support has no significant effect on entrepreneurial spirit. This study also indicated that entrepreneurial spirit has a significant effect on business resilience. Conclusion: To increase business resilience, it is very important to have entrepreneurial skills and mastery on utilization of technology. To anticipate future crises, entrepreneurial competencies must be evenly distributed both for business owners and for all members of the organization. To institutionalize crisis management in business, it is important for SMEs in Indonesia to develop an institutionalized Business Crisis Management.

The Effects of Disaster Training Education on the Attitudes, Preparedness, and Competencies in Disaster Nursing of Hospital Nurses (재난 대응 교육이 병원간호사의 재난간호에 대한 태도와 수행준비도, 수행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to determine the effects of a disaster training education for hospital nurses in terms of attitudes, preparedness, and competence of disaster nursing. Methods: One group pretest and posttest design was adopted. Data were collected from April 20th to May 20th, 2017 using 80 hospital nurses enrolled at a tertiary hospital located in D city. Results: The levels of attitudes (t=-2.31, p=.024), preparedness (t=-7.67, p<.001), and competencies (t=-16.82, p<.001) of disaster nursing at the posttest were significantly higher than those of the pretest. There were statistically significant relationships among nurses' attitudes, preparedness, and competencies of disaster nursing. The attitudes and preparedness of disaster nursing had significant effects on the competencies of disaster nursing. Conclusion: Disaster training education improved attitudes, preparedness, and competencies of disaster nursing in hospital nurses. Therefore, it is recommended to develop more practical disaster training education programs toward hospital nurses as well as nursing students as a way to enhance the competence of disaster nursing.
