A Study on Data Association-Rules Mining of Content-Based Multimedia (내용 기반의 멀티미디어 데이터 연관규칙 마이닝에 대한 연구)

  • Few studies have been systematically pursued on a multimedia data mining in despite of the overwhelming amounts of multimedia data by the development of computer capacity, storage technology and Internet. Based on the preliminary image processing and content-based image retrieval technology, this paper presents the methods for discovering association rules from recurrent items with spatial relationships in huge data repositories. Furthermore, multimedia mining algorithm is proposed to find implicit association rules among objects of which content-based descriptors such as color, texture, shape and etc. are recurrent and of which descriptors have spatial relationships. The algorithm with recurrent items in images shows high efficiency to find set of frequent items as compared to the Apriori algorithm. The multimedia association-rules algorithm is specially effective when the collection of images is homogeneous and it can be applied to many multimedia-related application fields.

  • An increasing in quantity of multimedia data brought a new problem that expected data should be retrieved fast and exactly. The adequate representation is a key element for the efficient retrieval. For this reason, MPEG-7 standard was established for description of multimedia data in 2001. However, the content of the standard is massive and the approach method is not clear for real application system yet, because of properties of MPEG-7 standard that has to include a lot of potential cases. In this paper, we suggested implementation scheme of retrieval system with using of only visual descriptors and presented the performance results of developed system. From the result of developed system, MPEG-7 VIRS (Video/Image Retrieval System), we analyzed the retrieval results between using individual descriptor and using multiple descriptors, and showed a layout for real application system.

Affine Invariant Local Descriptors for Face Recognition (얼굴인식을 위한 어파인 불변 지역 서술자)

  • Under controlled environment, such as fixed viewpoints or consistent illumination, the performance of face recognition is usually high enough to be acceptable nowadays. Face recognition is, however, a still challenging task in real world. SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transformation) algorithm is scale and rotation invariant, which is powerful only in the case of small viewpoint changes. However, it often fails when viewpoint of faces changes in wide range. In this paper, we use Affine SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transformation; ASIFT) to detect affine invariant local descriptors for face recognition under wide viewpoint changes. The ASIFT is an extension of SIFT algorithm to solve this weakness. In our scheme, ASIFT is applied only to gallery face, while SIFT algorithm is applied to probe face. ASIFT generates a series of different viewpoints using affine transformation. Therefore, the ASIFT allows viewpoint differences between gallery face and probe face. Experiment results showed our framework achieved higher recognition accuracy than the original SIFT algorithm on FERET database.

Development of PC based flute performance learning software (PC 기반의 플루트 연주 자율학습 소프트웨어 개발)

  • The music education improves the creative talent, social skills and academic achievement of the students. For the efficient music education, it is requested to develop the collaborative educational learning tools, especially electronic collaborators suitable to the leaner's study patterns and speed. In this paper, we propose a new method to develop a PC-based self learning software for the flute performance using templates and descriptors to make the contents form and substance. Our proposed method can allow user to modify the descriptors to match the contents to his level. We implemented a PC-based self learning software for the flute performance compactly and a feasibility test showed the efficiency of our proposed method to construct a self learning tool to play the flute and the tool can be utilized for the beginner to learn playing flute.

Compression Method for MPEG CDVA Global Feature Descriptors (MPEG CDVA 전역 특징 서술자 압축 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel compression method for scalable Fisher vectors (SCFV) which is used as a global visual feature description of individual video frames in MPEG CDVA standard. CDVA standard has adopted a temporal descriptor redundancy removal technique that takes advantage of the correlation between global feature descriptors for adjacent keyframes. However, due to the variable length property of SCFV, the temporal redundancy removal scheme often results in inferior compression efficiency. It is even worse than the case when the SCFVs are not compressed at all. To enhance the compression efficiency, we propose an asymmetric SCFV difference computation method and a SCFV reconstruction method. Experiments on the FIVR dataset show that the proposed method significantly improves the compression efficiency compared to the original CDVA Experimental Model implementation.

The Development of Laboratory Instruction Classification Scheme (실험수업 유형 분류틀 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a classification scheme for laboratory instruction, which could occupy a central and distinctive role in science education. For this study, literature on laboratory instruction types were analyzed. Utilizing several of these theoretical frameworks, a Classification Scheme for Laboratory Instruction (CSLI), which clearly represents various features of laboratory instruction, was created. The developed CSLI consisted of two descriptors: one is the procedure for laboratory instruction, and the other is a way of approach. The procedure is either designed by the students or provided for them from an external source. A dichotomy also exists for the approach taken toward the activity: deductive or inductive. Validity was established for the CSLI. In addition, laboratory instruction according to CSLI was divided into four types: verification, discovery, exploratory, and investigation. Although this study demonstrated only limited features of laboratory instruction due to the absence of a field test, it serves as a model for more comprehensive studies.

Chemical and Spectroscopic Characterization of Soil Humic and Fulvic Acids and Sorption Coefficient of Phenanthrene: A Correlation Study (토양 휴믹물질의 화학적.분광학적 특성에 따른 페난트린 흡착상수와의 상관성 규명에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the organic carbon normalized-sorption coefficients (Koc) for the binding affinity of phenanthrene (PHE) to 16 different soil humic and fulvic acids of various origins were determined by fluorescence quenching. The humic and fulvic acids used in this study were isolated from 6 different domestic soils including Mt. Hanla soil, IHSS standard soil and peat as well as Aldrich humic acid and characterized by elemental composition, ultraviolet absorption at 254 nm, composition of main structural fragments determined by CPMAS $^{13}$C NMR. The Koc values($\times$10$^4$, L/kg C) for each of HA and FA samples were in the range of 1.48$\sim$8.65 and higher in HA compared to that of FA(3.13$\sim$8.65 vs 1.48$\sim$2.48) in the experimental condition([PHE]/[HS] = 0.02$\sim$0.2(mg/L)/(mg-OC/L), pH 6). The correlation study between the structural descriptors of humic and fulvic acids and log Koc values of phenanthrene, show that the magnitude of Koc values positively correlated with the UV$_{254}$ absorptivity([ABS]$_{254}$) and two $^{13}$C NMR descriptors (C$_{Ar-H,C}$, $\sum$C$_{Ar}$/$\sum$C$_{Alk}$), while negatively correlated with the independent descriptors of the(N+O)/C atomic ratios and $^{13}$C NMR descriptors (I$_{C-O}$/I$_{C-H,C}$). These results confirmed that the binding affinity for the hydrophobic organic compound, phenanthrene are significantly influenced by the polarity and aromaticity of soil humc and fulvic acids.

Fast Image Stitching For Video Stabilization Using Sift Feature Points

  • Video Stabilization For Vehicular Applications Is An Important Method Of Removing Unwanted Shaky Motions From Unstable Videos. In This Paper, An Improved Video Stabilization Method With Image Stitching Has Been Proposed. Scale Invariant Feature Transform (Sift) Matching Is Used To Calculate The New Position Of The Points In Next Frame. Image Stitching Is Done In Every Frame To Get Stabilized Frames To Provide Stable Video As Well As A Better Understanding Of The Previous Frame'S Position And Show The Surrounding Objects Together. The Computational Complexity Of Sift (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform) Is Reduced By Reducing The Sift Descriptors Size And Resticting The Number Of Keypints To Be Extracted. Also, A Modified Matching Procedure Is Proposed To Improve The Accuracy Of The Stabilization.

Efficient Use of MPEG-7 Edge Histogram Descriptor

  • MPEG-7 Visual Standard specifies a set of descriptors that can be used to measure similarity in images or video. Among them, the Edge Histogram Descriptor describes edge distribution with a histogram based on local edge distribution in an image. Since the Edge Histogram Descriptor recommended for the MPEG-7 standard represents only local edge distribution in the image, the matching performance for image retrieval may not be satisfactory. This paper proposes the use of global and semi-local edge histograms generated directly from the local histogram bins to increase the matching performance. Then, the global, semi-global, and local histograms of images are combined to measure the image similarity and are compared with the MPEG-7 descriptor of the local-only histogram. Since we exploit the absolute location of the edge in the image as well as its global composition, the proposed matching method can retrieve semantically similar images. Experiments on MPEG-7 test images show that the proposed method yields better retrieval performance by an amount of 0.04 in ANMRR, which shows a significant difference in visual inspection.

2-D Invariant Descriptors for Shape-Based Image Retrieval (모양에 기반한 영상 검색을 위한 2-D Invariant Descriptor)

  • 모양 정보를 이용하는 내용기반 영상 검색 시스템에서 검색 정확도는 시스템에서 사용되는 모양 기술자에 매우 의존한다. 정확한 검색을 위해서 기술자는 이동, 회전, 스케일에 불변해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 모멘트 불변량과 푸리에 기술자를 복합적으로 사용하는 유사도 기법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 하나의 불변량 기술자를 사용하는 것보다 더 우수한 결과를 나타내었다. 푸리에 기술자와 네 개의 모멘트 불변량(Hu의 모멘트 불변량, Taubin의 모멘트 불변량, Flusser의 모멘트 불변량, Zernike 모멘트 불변량)을 구현하여 성능을 측정하였다. 영상분할된 이진 영상 데이터베이스로부터 각 기술자의 검색 정확도를 계산하였다. 실험 결과 경계선에 기초하는 푸리에 기술자와 영역에 기초하는 모멘트 불변량을 동시에 사용하는 방법이 영상 검색에 있어서 우수한 성능을 보였다.
