  • This investigation was performed to study the relationship of the dental midline(an imaginary line between the centeal incisors) to the philtrum. 2,400 subjects with natural dentitions were examined. The group of the subjects was composed of 1,560 men and 840 women who had all of the upper and lower six anteriors and 0 to 4 missing teeth. Ages of the subjects ranged from 18 to 27 years. The obtained results were as follow: 1. The rates of the subjects whose philtrum and maxillary dental midline coincided was 64.92% and that of the subjects whose upper and lower dental midlines coincided was 29.17%and these rates are statistically significant, when compared respectively with those of the subjects whose philtrum and maxillary dental midline, and whose upper and lower dental midline's didn't coincide. 2. The difference between rates for the two sexes is not statistically significant. 3. Tooth missing significantly decreases the rates of the coincidence of the upper and lower dental midlines but its influence on the rates of coincidence of the dental midline to the philtrum is not significant.

  • Purpose: In the dental field, acrylic resin can be used to produce various orthodontic appliances. The manufacturing of orthodontic resin requires the insertion of dental wires. However, currently, no study has compared the mechanical properties when dental wires are inserted into the orthodontic resin. Methods: In this study, specimens measuring 3.3 mm×10 mm×65 mm were produced by inserting 0.7- and 0.9-mm wires. A dental wire was used to create a specimen with the following configurations: single wire, two wires bonded together, and two wires spaced 5 mm apart. The flexural strength, flexural modulus, proportional limit, and work of fracture of the fabricated specimens were measured using a universal testing machine. Results: The dental resin inserted with wires demonstrated increased mechanical properties including bending strength, elastic modulus, yield strength, and fracture energy. The bending strength of the fabricated orthodontic resin specimens increased as the diameter of the wire expanded. Conclusion: Thus, the insertion of dental wires into dental resin increased the strength of the manufactured orthodontic appliance.

In total, 180 copies were analyzed. The reliability of satisfaction with continuing education demonstrated a Cronbach's α of 0.924. IBM SPSS Statistics version 21.0 (IBM) was used to statistically analyze the collected data. Results: Satisfaction with continuing education for dental technicians was 2.78, 2.81, 3.21, 2.96, and 2.87 for the number of lectures offered, composition of major fields, lecture content, instructor level, and overall satisfaction, respectively. The average satisfaction with continuing education was 2.93, which was lower than the average (3 points). The investigation revealed that overall improvement was required. • As Korea is entering an aging society, the number of elderly people who need new denture or who have problems with their existing denture or adjacent tissue is increasing and it will double in 2018. Therefore, denture clinician system will lessen patients financial burden and introduce market economy to the dental prosthesis field. Therefore, Korea needs to adopt denture clinician system as soon as possible as USA or Canada to increase people s accessibility in quality and quantity. Denture clinician will determine the size and shape of denture after performing oral examination, make impression using various materials, fabricate denture, deliver and adjust completed denture to the patient, repair denture, and carry out financial management in the denture fabricating company or manage human resources. Considering denture clinicians services, American and European education system seems to be close to our system. Therefore, in this study, basic curriculums of several countries in Europe and America were reviewed and curriculum that meets Korean situation was suggested.

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of vent on the marginal discrepancy of PFM base metal castings. Eighteen identical wax patterns of a maxillary 3 unit anterior bridge were fabricated. Nine cases out of them were vented with $\phi$2.5mm sprue wax, for direct comparison as to the marginal discrepancy of the castings with the other non vented 9 ones. The mean value of marginal discrepancies of the vented castings was $85.02{\pm}25.57{\mu}m$, and that of the non vented was $163.21{\pm}69.88{\mu}m$ respectively. Statistical analysis revealed that marginal discrepancy of the vented casting was significantly reduced(p<0.05).
