Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze level of dental health knowledge and behavior of mothers, health educators should encourage mother to have continuous dental care habits for lifelong dental health with practical education. Methods: The subjects in this study were 490 mothers of four-year, fifth-year and sixth-year from elementary school in Daegu areas. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 26, June to 27, June 2006. Collected data were analyzed into frequency and Chi-square test using SPSS 10.0 program. Result: First, no statistically significant relations were found between mothers, knowledge with general characteristics of subject(age, degree of education, yes or no of occupation, subjective economy). Second, mothers, number of toothbrushing were statistically significant relations with degree of education, yes or no of occupation as over three times a day. Third, no statistically significant relations were between visiting frequency of dental clinic for one years with general characteristics of subject(age, degree of education, yes or no of occupation, subjective economy). Fourth, yes or no of use in auxiliary oral hygiene device were statistically significant relations with degree of education, yes or no of occupation, subjective economy. Fifth, mothers, knowledge were statistically significant relations with auxiliary oral hygiene device.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine classifying the level and accuracy of the meta-cognitive level of students and dental hygiene, and to understand the impact on the process of problem solving and accordingly, it is intended to provide a basis for learning strategies. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 328 dental hygiene students in 3 colleges in Gyeonggi-do and Chungnam. Data were analyzed by the frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS 12.0. Results : Meta-cognitive level of the subject was on average 4.43 points and problem solving level was lower at 2.82 points. Showed a significant difference in satisfaction with the major motives meta-cognitive level in accordance with the general characteristics of the subjects(p<0.05). Results of this study showed that no statistically significant differences in both the sub-areas of the level of problem solving according to the general characteristics of the subject(p>0.05). There was no correlation between the ability to solve problems and meta-cognitive level of the subjects(p>0.05). Conclusions : The finding of the study showed that meta-perception of dental hygiene students are lower the level of problem-solving that is compared to meta-cognition. It is suggested that development of a variety of learning methods for improving meta-cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills required in dental hygiene school curriculum.
The purpose of the study is to develop the integrated basic dental hygiene curriculum after reviewing and analyzing the traditional curriculum. First, the standardization of curriculum in three years and four years dental hygiene department curriculum is needed. Second, integration between subjects should include learning objectives of the curriculum. Third, the basic subjects of dental hygiene should provide and satisfy the learning goals of dental biochemistry, nutrition, dentistry and dental pharmacology, and the basic subjects should be integrated into clinical considerations. Fourth, the integration of the curriculum should make the students dental hygiene experts by nurturing and integration of basic sciences. The integration of curriculum is able to provide the unified subject that does not same and duplicated contents.
Objectives: Before implementing a competency-based clinical dental hygiene curriculum, it is essential to establish competency development as a foundational educational objective. Therefore, this study aimed to develop the competency of clinical dental hygiene with secured validity using the Delphi survey method. Methods: Dental hygiene competencies were categorized within the dental hygiene process stages, and questions were formulated accordingly. A Delphi survey involving ten qualified experts was conducted to refine the final items based on their review opinions. Results: The expert Delphi survey confirmed that all items met stability criteria, with CVI values of 0.80 or higher, CVR values of 0.60 or higher, and a CV coefficient of variation of 0.5 or less. In total, 42 items were derived. Conclusions: Clinical dental hygiene can contribute to developing specialized dental hygienists if the competencies derived from this study are well applied to the standardized curriculum and operations.
Objectives: This study analyzed a total of 30 domestic research trends related to dental infection control from 2013 to 2022. Methods: Two researchers analyzed the research question, "What are the research trends on infection control in dental hygiene at dental clinics and dental hygiene education institutions?" The selected literature was classified according to the research subject and the purpose of the study. Results: The study sample comprised 63% dental hygienists, 30% dental hygiene students, and 7% dental workers. The research topics on dental infection control were classified into knowledge, awareness, practice, infection control education, clinic environment, and infection control personnel. The largest proportion of research on dental infection control were about awareness and practice of infection control (69%). Clinic environment, knowledge, infection control education, and infection control personnel appeared in order. Conclusions: It is believed that this can be used as a reference material to present the direction of research design for researchers studying in infection control in the field of dental hygiene in the future.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that affected the number of citations for articles published in the Journal of Korean Society of Dental Hygiene based on previous studies. Methods: Information on papers including the number of citations was collected using a web crawling technique. The effect of the number of author keywords, the number of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) keywords, MeSH match rate, abstract word count and keyword-abstract ratio on the number of citations was analyzed by multiple regression analysis. Results: The use of the MeSH keyword did not have a significant effect on the number of citations. Among the other factors, only the keyword-abstract ratio was statistically significant. Conclusions: Select a topic of constant interest in the field, write the title in detail using colons or asterisks if necessary, and do not repeat the words used in the title in keywords. Select specific keywords deeply related to the topic. In particular, choice words or phrases that are frequently used in the abstract. If the MeSH keyword selection contradicts the previous strategies, boldly give up the MeSH keyword.
This study's aim was to investigate their opinions to improve the educational system for dental hygienists on the basis of their duties as dental hygienists. The qualitative study was conducted among 19 dental hygienists at Daejeon, Korea from July to August 2016. Two researchers followed each subject for working hours in a day and recorded all the tasks and time to take for each task. After one day, the researchers met each subject and conducted face-to-face interviews to investigate the opinions about the dental hygiene curriculum and national board examination. The main duties recognized by more than half of the subjects were oral disease prevention including scaling and dental treatment assistance. The subjects' minority opinion about the main duties included radiography, impression taking, dental implant surgery assistance, orthodontic treatment, patient counseling, dental management and staff management, and oral health education. The most important tasks perceived by the subjects were prosthetic and implant impressions, scaling and implant surgery assistance. The subjects' minority opinion about the most important duties included patient counseling and making temporary crowns. The most difficult tasks answered by the subjects were prosthetic and implant impressions and dental implant surgery assistance. Background: This study aimed to create and present content that can be used in the dental hygiene ethics process to help dental hygiene students develop desirable work ethics and ethical values. Methods: In order to operate the dental hygiene ethics course in all academic systems, one three-year dental hygiene professor and one four-year dental hygiene professor participated in setting core competencies and learning goals for the dental hygiene ethics course. The class consisted of two credits, two hours of theoretical classes, and class activity sheets developed according to the learning contents and learning topics for each week that can be operated for 15 weeks. Results: The contents of the dental hygiene ethics subject were developed to be conducted as theoretical education and case-oriented discussion classes. The 15-week class consisted of a theory lecture on dental hygiene work ethics (eight weeks), discussions and presentations for ethical decisions based on actual cases related to dental hygiene ethics (four weeks), and the design and presentation of individual professional mission statements and codes of conduct (three weeks). The class data for each week consisted of four stages: "Learning goal-thinking," "open-thinking," "learning content-thinking," and "according to learning goal." Conclusions: In order to establish desirable workplace ethics and ethical values for dental hygiene students, it is necessary to approach education in a way that values understanding and application of dental hygiene practices, legal and ethical standards, ethical decision-making models, and ethical principles.
This study attempts to measure the critical thinking disposition and problem-solving ability levels of dental hygiene students and to investigate their correlation. A self-administered survey was conducted with respect to dental hygiene students from three-year colleges in Busan, Ulsan and the Gyeongsangbuk-do region between April 2013 and May 2013. A total of 649 surveys were subject to a final analysis. Critical thinking disposition of the dental hygiene students resulted in a score of 3.20 out of a total of 5.0. Freshmen, students with high academic performance results, students with good interpersonal relations, students with a high level of satisfaction regarding major subject and clinical training and students with no clinical training experience showed a high score for critical thinking disposition. Problem-solving ability of the dental hygiene students resulted in a score of 3.06 out of a total of 5.0. Students with high academic performance results, students with good interpersonal relations and students with a high level of satisfaction regarding major subject and clinical training showed a high score for problem-solving ability. It was found that critical thinking disposition and problem-solving ability had a pure correlation. The critical thinking disposition appeared to problem solving, interpersonal relations, major factors affect satisfaction, was a critical thinking disposition, academic factors affect the ability to problem solve. Regarding education for dental hygiene students, the reinforcement of training to increase critical thinking and problem-solving abilities is necessary and the development of an educational curriculum and change in educational environment that can increase interpersonal skills and communication skills is necessary.
Objectives : In order to manage to reformative tendency of the educational whole with change request of dental hygienics education which is diversificated and professionalized the manufacturing practice of a temporary resin jacket which is educated with from much dental hygiene is become accomplished, so far also the recognition which relates with the manufacturing practice of a temporary resin jacket of dental hygiene students there is not researched. The present research carried out the practice evaluation with the target of students of a dental hygiene department, who finished a manufacturing practice of a temporary resin jacket, analyzed and investigated the material, reported its result, and enforced a research. Methods : This research selected students of 6 dental hygiene departments located in the Daegu Gyeongbuk region, who have manufacturing experience of a temporary resin jacket, by a convenient sampling method, and then a questionnaire was executed by a self-administration method, and a total of 290 copies were statistically treated. The content of the questionnaire are composed of 2 questions on an attitude survey before and after manufacturing practice of a temporary resin jacket, 3 questions on an educator for practice of a temporary resin jacket, 7 questions on recognition of technical skills for manufacturing a temporary resin jacket, 9 questions on the practice content evaluation of manufacturing of a temporary resin jacket and recognition on manufacturing practice of a the temporary resin jacket. Results : 1. The average of recognition on technical skills for manufacturing a temporary resin jacket of a dental hygienist was 3.82 points, the average of evaluation on practice content of manufacturing a temporary resin jacket being 3.75 points, and the average of recognition on the practice of manufacturing a temporary resin jacket was 3.71 points. 2. Currently, as the educator for the practice of manufacturing a temporary resin jacket, dental hygienists were 188 persons(64.8%) and dental technicians was 102 persons(35.2%), and as educators they want in the future, dental hygienists were 97 persons(33.3%) and dental technicians was 193 persons(66.7%). Persons hoping reeducation for manufacturing a temporary resin jacket were 219 persons(85.9%). 3. There was a significant difference in consciousness of students before and after practice of manufacturing a temporary resin jacket(p<.001). 4. There was a significant difference in practice evaluation and practice recognition according to the educational subject(p<.001). 5. There was a significant reverse correlation in the educational subject, practice evaluation and practice recognition(p<0.01). Conclusions : The practice for manufacturing a temporary resin jacket in education of dental hygiene is necessary to improve job performance ability in more various and specialized dental treatment and to solve desire for improvement of professional technical skill ability of students, and accordingly. About study process of the future students observation investigation or student objective interview investigation etc. seeks a problem in the become research lead, the succeeding research which gropes the plan which is the possibility of solving the problem which discovered is thought will be necessary.
