Dentally disabled person means one who have difficulty in cooperating voluntarily with a dentist for routine dental care. Seoul National University Dental Hospital (SNUDH) Dental Clinic for Disabled has worked for them under outpatient anesthesia concept. The aim of this study was to determine the anesthetic characteristics of the patients attending for dental treatment at SNUDH Dental Clinic for Disabled in order to establish better future treatment plans. The data were drawn from the patients who visited SNUDH Dental Clinic for Disabled from January 1999 to October 2002. Total 93 dental treatments for 83 patients were enrolled in this study. Most patients had mental retardation and the conservative treatments were carried out under general anesthesia. Thiopental and vecuronium were mostly used for induction agent and neuromuscular blocker, respectively. Enflurane, with oxygen and nitrous oxide, was mostly used to maintain the anesthesia. Mean total anesthetic time was $164.4{\pm}57.2$ minutes and mean duration at the post-anesthetic care unit was $106.2{\pm}50.5$ min. Serious postoperative complications were not observed. These results showed our successful anesthetic outcomes without any severe side effect or complication and the needs of more outpatient centers for dental care for disabled.
The purpose of this study was investigate the relationship between the degree of satisfaction of the clinical practice and the stress factors for dental hygiene students. Dental hygiene students to 232 people from May 21, 2012 to June 22, 2012 and analyzed using by SPSS for Windows ver. 12.0 program. Regarding the stress factors, by the school system, all the factors, including the environmental factor, the role factor, the interpersonal relationships factor, the ideal and value factor, and the Brief Encounter Psychosocial Instrument (BEPSI) were higher in the 3-year system than in the 4-year system (p<0.01). Regarding the stress factors according to the degree of satisfaction regarding the practices, all the factors were high when unsatisfied. Among these, the environmental factor was the highest (p<0.001). According to the practice organization, the environmental factor was the highest among the university dental hospital. The interpersonal relationship factor and the ideal and value factor were the highest among the dental hospitals. The role factor and the BEPSI were the highest among the dental clinics (p<0.01). When the hospital atmosphere was bad, the environmental factor was the highest (p<0.001). As a result of analyzing the correlations between the stress factors of the hospital practices, there were the positive correlations among the environment, the roles, the interpersonal relationship, the ideals and values, and the BEPSI (p<0.01). The stress factor that showed the biggest influence on the BEPSI was interpersonal relationships. In the clinical practice, because of the unfamiliar environment and the insufficiency of the interpersonal relationships, the stress indices of the students can be higher than at ordinary times. I believe that, as such, a systematic management plan for the clinical practice for raising the ability of the students to cope with the stress by themselves must be prepared.
Objectives : This study was intended to examine job satisfaction in dental hygienists working in the Gwangju Jeonnam area and provide basic materials for the efficient management of dental clinics and the improvement of working conditions in dental hygienists. Methods : In order to achieve this purpose, the questionnaire survey was conducted from August 13 to October 6, 2007. Of a total of 394 questionnaires, 34 was excluded because of poor responses and finally 360(Gwangju 296, Jeonnam 64) were analyzed. Results : For job satisfaction associated with the total career and turnover, satisfaction was increased with the total career. Job satisfaction associated with working conditions became higher as a monthly mean paycheck was increased or when an incentive, in the annual pay system and long-service men preference was provided(p<0.05). Job satisfaction was 3.26. The highest satisfaction at detailed factors was found in patient relation(3.85), colleague relation(3.40), prospects(3.26), dentistry organization(3.17), autonomy(3.10), and pay(2.78). For detailed factors of job satisfaction, the most influential factor was monthly mean paycheck, followed by incentive, age and marriage(p<0.05). Conclusions : When dental hygienists' working environment is planned and improved in the rational and desirable direction, their job satisfaction will be improved. As a result, it will contribute to a decrease in the jobless rate and an increase in the productivity of oral care and the efficiency of hospital management.
Purpose: This aim of this paper is to research the influence of customer satisfaction and reutilization on Dental hospitals and clinics of medical service quality. Methods: The study examines 140 Patients who received treatment in Daegu from 1 July 2012 to 30 July 2012. The methods of research were used to factor analysis, reliability test using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ factor, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and spss/win18.0. Results: The factor of quality of care has the highest impact on customer satisfaction. the influence of reutilization depends on the highest reliability and the physical environment was significant. Conclusion: To improve customer satisfaction and reutilization is required to maintenance of hospital facilities, medical services mind and quality of care. The medical service providers are important to develop patient education programs, self-development and customer satisfaction training techniques.
Foreign body aspiration can produce a medical emergency. Obstruction of the airways can be life-threatening, and complications may develop in less-severe cases if it is left untreated. Although it is more prevalent in children by approximately three times, adults can still experience it, and it is more frequently related to healthcare in adults. Objects used in dental treatment are usually placed in the oral cavity and can be ingested or inhaled by accident. Dental treatment has been identified as an important cause of the misplacement of foreign bodies in the airway. However, few reports have been published on dentistry-related foreign body aspiration. This paper discusses the disease course, management, and clinical outcomes of foreign body aspiration, especially those associated with dentistry. The patient must be examined for respiratory distress. If the patient is unstable, urgent airway management and the maneuvers for removal should be performed. Radiographs and computed tomography can help identify and locate the object. The treatment of choice is often bronchoscopy, and both flexible and rigid endoscopes can be used depending on the situation. Preventive measures need to be implemented to avoid inhalation accidents given the potential consequences. Though the incidence is rare, healthcare levels need to be enhanced to avert morbidity and mortality. Radiological evaluation and bronchoscopy are vital for management.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the systematic and convergent education needs according to the use of digital intraoral scanners in dental hygienists. Data of 127 respondents who participated in an online survey for dental hygienists working at dental hospitals and clinics were analyzed by the frequency analysis, t-test, one way ANOVA, and correlation using SPSS 24.0 program. The utilization period of digital intraoral scanners in the hospital was 'less than 1 year' in 78.7%. As for relevant education experience, 58.3% answered 'no', showing a higher proportion of no education experience. As for clinical application of digital intraoral scanners, 77.4% responded that they use the scanner for clinical purposes. With regard to digital intraoral scanner education, 61.4% responded that education is necessary. This result reflects the fact that digital intraoral scanners have been rapidly introduced to dental hospitals and clinics, but systematic education has not been given. Therefore, we hope that this paper will be used as basic data to recognize the need for education on digital intraoral scanners.

Tissue regeneration is one of the ultimate goals of maxillofacial surgery and various types of tissue engineering technologies have been utilized in clinics. Healthy resources of host cells and growth factors are essential for the tissue engineering, therefore autologous blood-derived cell therapy was introduced. In this article, clinical applications of the autologous platelet concentrates and stem cell separation therapy will be summarized and evaluated for their efficacy and feasibility in the current maxillofacial clinics.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to verify the impact of the empowerment of dental personnels as one of variables affecting the performance of dental institutions and to seek ways of boosting their organizational productivity. Methods : The subjects in this study were dental personnels who worked in dental institutions. After three investigators were trained, a pilot survey was conducted from October 20 to November 20, 2009, and the questionnaire used in the pilot survey was finalized. The collected data were analyzed with a SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 12.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: Results: 1. The dental personnels investigated got 3.98 in meaningfulness, one of the empowerment factors. They found a meaning in their job when they performed it. 2. The dental personnels who were older were more excellent in self- determination and influence, and age made a significant difference to their empowerment. 3. The dental personnels who were better educated were more superior in terms of empowerment, and academic credential made a significant difference to their empowerment factors was statistically. 4. The dental personnels whose yearly salary was larger were more which were the factors of empowerment of each factor was statistically significant. 5. Dental health agency workers less than three years accounted for most of 152 people were working longer duration of empowerment as a whole was that each of the factor scores. Empowerment of each factor was statistically significant. 6. The dental hygienists made up the largest group among the dental institution employees, and the kind of occupation made a significant difference to meaningfulness, competency and influence, which were the factors of empowerment. 7. The greatest group of the dental personnels worked in dental clinics, and the dental hospital employees surpassed the dental clinic employees in competency, self-determination and influence. There was a significant difference in the influence factor according to the type of dental institutions. Conclusions : Thus, the dental personnels were more aware of the meaningfulness factor when their perception of the job-related empowerment was checked, and it indicated that most of them attached importance to meaningfulness during their job performance. But just employees who worked in dental institutions located in particular regions were examined, the findings might not be generalizable. In the future, more extensive research should be implemented, and the sorts of programs that could stir up empowerment among dental institution employees or bolster organizational empowerment should be developed.
In order to determine dental clinic inpatients' awareness about their periodontal health, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on total 212 inpatients admitted in 2 dental clinics and 1 dental hospital located all in Seoul metropolitan area. Resulting data were analyzed using SPSS 14.0 statistic program. As a result, this study could come to the following conclusions: 1. It was found that overall awareness about health of periodontal tissues averaged 3.40 points; our respondents showed highest awareness on prevention of periodontal diseases(3.95 points), while showing the lowest awareness on maintenance of periodontal tissues(3.09 points). 2. For differences in the awareness on periodontal health depending on general characteristics, it was found that there were significant differences between respective groups in overall periodontal health awareness and its sub-domains depending on sex and occupation. 3. For possible correlations between respective sub-domains of awareness, it was found that preventive awareness had most significant correlations with causal awareness, while preventive awareness had no significant correlation with symptomatic awareness. 4. For differences in the extent of oral health practice and periodontal health awareness, it was found that the more frequency of daily toothbrushing plus scaling experiences led to more significant differences in all the sub-domains of awareness.
Objective: The study aimed to provide basic data for enhancing dental hygienists' practice of prevention for infections of dental hygienists by examining what factors there were in their preventing the infections in dental clinics. Method: The subjects of study were 168 dental hygienists who participated in continuing medical education of Incheon & Gyeonggi-do association and Seoul city association in October and November 2005. For the data analysis, an SPSS WIN 13.0 program was used and its significance level was 0.05. In terms of analysis methods, frequency analysis and technical statistics analysis were performed for general characteristics, ANOVA was performed for general traits, practice, medical environments for knowledge and practice analysis, correlation analysis was performed for the relation between knowledge & organization-related factors and practice, Chi-Square Tests were performed for the relation between general traits and educational experiences, T-test was performed for practice and knowledge according to the educational experiences for preventing infections and multiple regression analysis was performed for the factors that affect the practice for preventing infections. Result: knowledge showed statistically significant differences by age (F=4.895, p=0.003) and those with the education experiences in preventing infections had higher scores in practice of prevention for infections than those without them (t=3.315, p=0.001). The correlation between knowledge and practice was significant statistically (p<0.05), the factors related to organization showed significant correlation (p<0.01) and the higher the factors related to organizations, knowledge, education experiences, service career, the higher the practice for prevention of infections was ($R^2=0.32$). Conclusions: In order to enhance the dental hygienists' practice for the prevention of infections, it would be necessary to treat the contents of the infection prevention in educational curriculum at schools and enhance dental hygiene students' knowledge on the prevention of infection and to develop the programs, with which continuous education and PRS could be conducted through in-house education and continuing medical education of the hospital after school graduation and it has been believed that it would be the most important for dental hygienists to make efforts and interest in organizations actively so as to build up safe working environments.
