  • Consider a class of p(x)-Kirchhoff type equations of the form $$\left\{-M\left({\int}_{\Omega}\;\frac{1}{p(x)}{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^{p(x)}\;dx\right)\;div\;({\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^{p(x)-2}{\nabla}u)={\lambda}V(x){\mid}u{\mid}^{q(x)-2}u\;in\;{\Omega},\\u=0\;on\;{\partial}{\Omega},$$ where p(x), $q(x){\in}C({\bar{\Omega}})$ with 1 < $p^-\;:=inf_{\Omega}\;p(x){\leq}p^+\;:=sup_{\Omega}p(x)$ < N, $M:{\mathbb{R}}^+{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{R}}^+$ is a continuous function that may be degenerate at zero, ${\lambda}$ is a positive parameter. Using variational method, we obtain some existence and multiplicity results for such problem in two cases when the weight function V (x) may change sign or not.

  • The methods of sensitivity analysis for linear programming can be classified in two types: sensitivity analysis using an optimal solution, and sensitivity analysis using an approximate optimal solution. As the methods of sensitivity analysis using an optimal solution, there are three sensitivity analysis methods: sensitivity analysis using an optimal basis, positive sensitivity analysis, and optimal partition sensitivity analysis. Since they may provide different characteristic regions under degeneracy, it is not easy to understand and apply the results of the three methods. In this paper, we propose a generalized sensitivity analysis that can integrate the three existing methods of sensitivity analysis. When a right-hand side or a cost coefficient is perturbed, the generalized sensitivity analysis gives different characteristic regions according to the controlling index set that denotes the set of variables allowed to have positive values in optimal solutions to the perturbed problem. We show that the three existing sensitivity analysis methods are special cases of the generalized sensitivity analysis, and present some properties of the generalized sensitivity analysis.

  • We consider the Cauchy problem for a Keller-Segel-fluid model with degenerate diffusion for cell density, which is mathematically formulated as a porus medium type of Keller-Segel equations coupled to viscous incompressible fluid equations. We establish the global-in-time existence of weak solutions and bounded weak solutions depending on some conditions of parameters such as chemotactic sensitivity and consumption rate of oxygen for certain range of diffusive exponents of cell density in two and three dimensions.

  • Optical encoding method of images using random-phase encoding in both input and Fourier Planes was proposed by Javidi and his group, and the method was realized experimentally by Singh and his group with use of a photorefractive crystal and a phase conjugate wave.[1-2] Recently various techniques have been proposed theorically and experimentally. These include the method using one random-phase mask in the Fourier plane or two random-phase masks in the input and the Fresnel planes.[3] We demonstrate the difference and the problem of the methods using one or two random-phase masks in the Fourier or Fresnel plane. We perform the encoding and decoding in $LiNbO_3$ crystal using degenerate four-wave mixing.

  • In this paper, Primal-Interior Dual-Simplex method(PIDS) and Dual-Interior Primal-Simplex method(DIPS) are developed for the general bounded linear programming. Two methods were implemented and compared with other pricing techniques for the Netlib. linear programming problems. For the PIDS, it shows superior performance to both most nagative rule and dual steepest-edge method since it practically reduces degenerate iterations and has property to reduce the problem. For the DIPS, pt requires less iterations and computational time than least reduced cost method. but it shows inferior performance to the dynamic primal steepest-edge method.

  • An Approximate solution for plane two-dimensional incompressible laminar jet issuing from a finite opening with arbitrary initial profile into the same ambient fluid is proposed. For an arbitrary initial velocity profile, the problem is generated from the well known similarity solution for the jet of infinitesimal opening and provides good approximations in the region where the similarity solution cannot be used as an approximation. The asymptotic behavior of this solution is investigated and it is shown that, as goes downstream, the present solution approachs the similarity solution.

  • A FastSLAM is an algorithm for SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) using a Rao-Blackwellized particle filter and its performance is known to degenerate over time due to the loss of particle diversity, mainly caused by the particle depletion problem in the resampling phase. In this paper, the GeSPIR (Geographically Stratified Particle Information-based Resampling) technique is proposed to solve the particle depletion problem. The proposed algorithm consists of the following four steps : the first step involves the grouping of particles divided into K regions, the second obtaining the normal weight of each region, the third specifying the protected areas, and the fourth resampling using regional equalization weight. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm obtains lower RMS errors in both robot and feature positions than the conventional FastSLAM algorithm.

  • Correlation Filter-based Trackers (CFTs) gained popularity recently for their effectiveness and efficiency. To deal with the size changes of the target which may degenerate the tracking performance, scale estimation has been introduced in existing CFTs. However, the variations of the aspect ratio were usually neglected, which also influence the size of the target. In this paper, Size Aware Correlation Filter Trackers (SACFTs) are proposed to deal with this problem. The SACFTs not only determine the translation and scale variations, but also take the aspect ratio changes into consideration, thus a better estimation of the size of the target can be realized, which improves the overall tracking performance. And competing results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods according to the experiments conducted on two large scale datasets.

  • The enhancement of the service life of damaged or cracked structures is a major issue for researchers and engineers. The hierarchical void element with the integrals of Legend polynomials is used to characterize the fracture behavior of unpatched crack as well as repaired crack with bonded composite patches by computing the stress intensity factors and stress contours at the crack tip. The numerical approach is based on the v-version degenerate shell element including the theory of anisotropic laminated composites. Since the equivalent single layer approach is adopted in this study, the proposed element is necessary to represent a discontinuous crack part as a continuum body with zero stiffness of materials. Thus the aspect ratio of this element to represent the crack should be extremely slender. The sensitivity of numerical solution with respect to energy release rate, displacement and stress has been tested to show the robustness of hierarchical void element as the aspect ratio is increased up to 2000. The stiffness derivative method and displacement extrapolation method have been applied to calculate the stress intensity factors of Mode I problem.

  • This study deals with displacement analysis of anisotropic folded structures with triangular elements and quadrilateral elements. When folded plates are analyzed, triangular elements as well as quadrilateral elements are needed for conveniences of modelling. However, using triangular elements is not a simple problem. A simple formulation is presented which allows a quadrilateral element to degenerate into a triangular element. Therefore it can easily be used for computational simplicity and avoided complexities on mixed use of triangular element and quadrilateral element. In this paper, a high-order shear deformation theory using only Lagrangian interpolation functions and drilling degrees of freedom for folded plates are utilized for more accurate analysis. Especially, various results of anisotropic laminated and folded composite structures with triangular element and quadrilateral element show the structural behavior characteristics of them.
