  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between creativity development and debate in solving a probability task. We developed the probability task with instructional strategies facilitating debating among students. 33 students in grade 11 who were identified as gifted participated in this study. The findings indicated that debating leads students to critical and reflective thinking on prior learning regarding probability concepts, which nurtured creative ideas on sample space.

Also, after looking into the class participation and the debating ability, there was a degree of increase. As a result, there were five areas in class participation which are class preparation, class activity, expressing oneself, class expansion, and class dedication; all have statistically significant effects on the six areas of the discussion skill: logic, analytical skill, listening skill, receptiveness, regularity, and initiative. As it shows, both of these areas show a significant statistical effect on the application of Peer Instruction and confirmed to have a positive influence on the change in the participation and the discussion skills.

  • The purpose of this study is to design internet CEDA (Cross Examination Debate Association) debating model for the internet-based learning. Comparing to open discussion model that is widely spreaded in regular classes, the CEDA model can enhance learner's thinking skills, logicality, analytic skills, and judgement ability. In the first study, 196 students were provided the specific CEDA model guideline and participated debate activities through the internet. The results of the students' debate were analyzed based on the evaluation criteria. The results showed that the students' evaluation scores were high overall. They favored the CEDA model over the open discussion model, and showed positive attitudes and perceptions on the CEDA internet debate activity. In the second study, another 200 students were participated in two different tutor supporting CEDA debating groups, one is advanced tutor strategy group and the other is general tutor strategy group. The results showed that the advanced tutor supporting group had significantly high scores on the cross examination and providing evidence on debating. This study finally suggests the CEDA internet model for general use. In conclusion, this study also suggests the next steps to elaborate the CEDA internet model not oかy for the university settings, but also for general school settings. The user manuals should be developed to assist instructors, students, and tutors to guide better debate activities through the internet CEDA class. Also further research should be conducted to provide various debate models and applications for the variety of learning environments, and so the schools to use the CEDA model more widely in the internet classes.

  • The purpose of this study is to assist understanding the integrated subjects and to obtain implications required on the actual operation of curriculum by analyzing content elements and basic inquiry activities in the revised "wise lift" curriculum 2007. The result of this study is as follows. First, the formation of elements in contents of "wise life" deals with the passage of time based on changing seasons, myself and family in the 1st grade and the concept of space based on home and a village in the 2nd grade. Six main subjects and twelve activity subjects are presented per each grade. Second, number of activity subjects and content elements are reduced as compared with 7th curriculum so that the responsibility of operating classes based on activities is reduced and the purpose of rationalizing contents is somewhat fulfilled. Third, eliminating a relevant domains decisively when presenting the activity subjects assures the identification and purpose as the integrated subject focused on inquiry activities. Fourth, the result of analyzing the course-relevance on content elements shows that the allotment per each domain and course is less considered but the relevance of social studies is higher regardless of non-course characteristics as the integrated subject. Fifth, according to the component ratio of basic inquiry activities, 'Observing' and 'Debating' were presented as the most essential activities, and 'Measuring' and 'Making' were relatively low. By considering characteristics of course requiring balanced and various experiences of inquiry activities, additional discussions are required on appropriateness of the component ratio. Sixth, 'Observing' was increased and 'Debating' and 'Making' were decreased on the main activities in this revised curriculum as compared with 7th curriculum.

  • This study argues that traditional 'On the Job Training(OJT)' for performance management in the public sector has paid little attention to the innate nature of public performance management, while mainly focusing on introducing new techniques and differentiating new ones from existing ones. This neglection leads us to commit repetitive errors in practice and misunderstandings about the nature of public performance regardless of the introduction of new techniques. This study emphasizes that on the job training for performance management in the public sector should be able to foster critical thinking and debates over important issues to overcome the problems mentioned above. From such a point of view, 10 important debating points for training and education are suggested to balance both theoretical and practical perspectives in public performance management. Finally, this study maintains that the necessary first step for successful performance management is public employees' correct understanding on the nature of public performance management rather than on a new technique itself.

  • Since 1st July 2012, the our Goverment and KOGAS have been adopting a calorific value range system from the standard calorific value system. Domestic power plant companies and KOGAS have asked GT manufacture about the effects of the reduction of the calorific value. We received GT manufacture's answer to the question on April 12.2011. Gas components of some GT models were limited to no more than 9% of the C2+ content. Now some of GTs remain under debating whether effects on variation of gas heating or not.
