Properties of the Variation of the Infrared Emission of OH/IR Stars I. The K Band Light Curves

  • To study properties of the variation of the infrared emission of OH/IR stars, we collect and analyze the infrared observational data in K band for nine OH/IR stars. We use the observational data obtained for about three decades including recent data from the two micron all sky survey (2MASS) and the deep near infrared survey of the southern sky (DENIS). We use Marquardt-Levenberg algorithm to determine the pulsation period and amplitude for each star and compare them with previous results of infrared and radio investigations.

  • KOMPSAT-2 was successively launched on July 28,06. She carries Fine Spatial Resolution Sensor with three channels. It is 4m monochromatic and 1m panchromatic. The main purposes would derive fine urban map and digital elevation model(DEM).Therefore we extend to coastal environment monitoring using the adjacent effect of radiation due to an interaction of radiation between heterogeneous surface and atmosphere. With data analysis of ASTER on TERA, which is 15m resolution in visible and near infrared wavelengths, we found atmospheric aerosols were always large. Note that data analysis was limited in Nagoya bay, Lake Tahoe, California & La Pozuelos, La Picasa, Argentina. Thus this time we expect data analyses around isolated island and peninsula in west and south coast of Korea.

  • High performance and reliability of the storage system to handle a very large amount of data has been become very important. Many techniques have been applied on the various application systems to establish very large capacity storage that satisfy the requirement of high I/O speed and physical or logical failure protection. We applied RAID and LVM to construct a storage system for the global data center which needs a very reliable large capacity storage system. The storage system is successfully established and equipped on the latest Linux application server.

  • This paper describes a novel spectral envelope conversion method based on Gaussian mixture model (GMM). The core of this paper is rearranging source feature vectors in input space to the transformed feature vectors in feature space for the better modeling of GMM of source and target features. The quality of statistical modeling is dependent on the distribution and the dimension of data. The proposed method transforms both of the distribution and dimension of data and gives us the chance to model the same data with different configuration. Because the converted feature vectors should be on the input space, only source feature vectors are rearranged in the feature space and target feature vectors remain unchanged for the joint pdf of source and target features using KPCA. The experimental result shows that the proposed method outperforms the conventional GMM-based conversion method in various training environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to contribute the development of an El Nino prediction model. The objectives of the study are to (1) extract sea surface height data from the TOPEI/Poseidon altimeter, and (2) compare the relations among the sea surface height, sea surface temperature and wind field. NOAA AVHRR Multi-channel data is used for sea surface temperature and wind data is derived from ERS 1, 2 AMI wind scatterometer. The results showed that sea surface height has increased significantly during the El Nino season. The sea surface height is positively related to sea surface temperature and negatively related to zonal wind.

  • Generally, fuzzy models have the capability of dividing input space into several subspaces. compared to liner ones. But hitherto suggested fuzzy modeling algorithms not take into consideration the correlations between components of sample input data and address them independently of each other, which results in ineffective partition of input space. Therefore, to solve this problem. this letter proposes a new fuzzy modeling algorithm which partitions the input space more efficiently than conventional methods by taking into consideration correlations between components of sample data. As a way to use correlation and divide the input space. the method of principal component is used. Finally, the results of computer simulation are given to demonstrate the validity of this algorithm.

  • This paper presents a feasibility study of an advanced IO board design for the next generation of low-earth orbit satellites. Advanced IO board design includes sensor interface, NO, D/A, Digital Module, Serial Module etc, and allows to process increasing data rates between IO board and CPU board. The higher data rate involved in modem IO board additionally introduce issues such as noise, fault tolerance, command and data handling, limited pin count and power consumption problems. The experience in KOMPSAT-l and 2 program with this kind of problems resulted in using SMCS chip set, a high speed serial link technology based on IEEE-1355 (Space Wire Protocol) (ESA-ESTEC 2003, Parkes 1999), as a standard for next generation of satellite IO board design.

  • In many situations, it is very important to identify a certain unkown system, it from its input-output data. For this purpose, several system modeling algorithms have been suggested heretofore, and studies regarding the fuzzy modeling based on its nonlinearity get underway as well. Generatlly, fuzzy models have the capability of dividing input space into several subspaces, compared to linear ones.   • In this paper, we propose the methodology and system to show weather information to spatial system. When using the spatial information system, it is easy and convenient to show information such as target location, mission contents, enemy threats and so on. However, drawing 1-dimensional weather information on 3-dimensional space in spatial information system is hard task. To fuse data, we need to add a spatial layer including weather information to spatial layers and perform space modeling for showing weather information as spatial data in a virtual space. The virtual space is shown by receiving meteorological data and then changing in real time through weather database linkage.

Near-IR Polarimetry Survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud: Relationship between the polarization degree and the color

  • We performed near-IR imaging polarimetry of the $5{\times}9$ fields (${\sim}39^{\prime}{\times}69^{\prime}$) around 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), using the InfraRed Survey Facility (IRSF). We obtained polarimetry data in the J, H, and Ks bands using the JHKs-simultaneous imaging polarimeter SIRPOL in 2008 December and 2011 December. With the reliable LMC field data which were selected using a bad-data-rejection algorithm, we measured Stokes parameters of point-like sources to derive the degree of polarization and the polarization position angle. We present physical relationship between the three bands using the photometric and the polarimetric properties of the sources.
