  • In order to develop an ultra-high-density elastomeric material for substitution of steel dynamic dampers, a new curing system and technique for high-loading of the filler were examined in this study. Mechanochemical modification of chloroprene rubber (MAH-g-CR) using an internal mixer was carried out with maleic anhydride (MAH) as a reactive monomer. The optimum amount of MAH was 10 phr and the efficient grafting of MAH on CR could be achieved at a mixing temperature of 100℃. After preparing MAH-g-CR, 50 mol% epoxidized natural rubber (ENR 50) was blended with MAH-g-CR to develop a "self-curable rubber blend system" via reaction between the functional groups of the elastomeric matrices without the curing agent and additives. The content of ENR 50 was fixed at 30 wt.% throughout evaluation of the curing behavior of the MAH-g-CR/ENR blend. Tungsten powder was added to the MAH-g-CR/ENR matrix up to 60 vol.% to obtain ultra-high-density, and the maximum density obtained was 7.57 g/㎤. Stable ts2 (scorch time) and t90 (90% cure time) could be obtained even when tungsten powder was incorporated up to 60 vol.%. In addition, the tensile strength and damping properties of MAH-g-CR/ENR containing 60 vol.% of tungsten were better than those of CR containing 60 vol.% of tungsten.

  • This paper proposes a systematic design method for axial(or thrust) magnetic bearings using optimal design methodology. The objective of the optimal design is to minimize bearing volume. The constraints include the bearing load capacity, linearized bearing stiffness and damping, the magnetic flux density, and geometric relations. In order to obtain design values which can be applied to fabrication of bearings, branch and bound method was introduced in the postprocessing procedure of optimal design results. Verification of the proposed design methodology was perfomed by an example.

  • This paper analyzes file stiffness, damping coefficient, friction force and flow coefficient of externally pressurized oil journal beating, including the effect of journal rotation according to the Sommerfeld number. This paper assumed that the oil in the whole pocket has constant pressure, and that the oil in the whole bearing region has constant viscosity, temperature and density. Reynolds equation is derived from Nuvier - Stokes equation and continuity equation. And solved bearing pressure by ADI method for whole bearing region and fitted with out flow rate of pocket region. The model for numerical simulation is hydro - static oil journal bearing for high-speed, high-accuracy lathe spindle.

  • In this study, the basic concept of design response spectrum is briefly revi-ewed. To generate the artificial earthquake acceleration, the method of superpo-sition of cosine waves is used. Theoretical developments using F.F.T. and spect-ral density function are compared. The amplitude was derived by use of the peak factor and the phase angle is d-erived by use of Monte Carlo simulation. To smoothen the match, the calculated pseudo velocity respon-se spectrum is compared with input pseudo velocity response spectrum at a set of control frequencies. With the modified spectral density function, a new acceleration and pseudo velocity response spectrum are generat-ed.

  • The stochastic nonlinear dynamic behavior and probability density function of ship rolling are studied using the nonlinear dynamical systems approach and probability theory. The probability density function of the rolling response is evaluated through solving the Fokker Planck Equation using the path integral method based on a Gauss-Legendre interpolation scheme. The time-dependent probability of ship rolling restricted to within the safe domain is provided and capsizing is investigated from the probability point of view. The random differential equation of ships' rolling motion is established considering the nonlinear damping, nonlinear restoring moment, white noise and colored noise wave excitation.

  • The aluminum extruded panel used for a high speed train shows the largest contribution to sound insulation performance of the train body. However, comparing with the flat panel having the same weight, the transmission loss falls sharply in the local resonance frequency band. Such fall of transmission loss can be improved by increasing the damping of local resonance. This study examines the charging effect of an urethane foam on the aluminum extruded panel of a high speed train. We charged the urethane foam with different mass density and in different way in the core part of the extruded panel. We measure the transmission loss and compare the sound insulation performance according to the density and charging method. Finally, Improvement effect of the transmission loss is compared and analysed in aspect of weight increment.

  • Investigation is performed on the stability of general form of dynamic system whose damping and stiffness are varying in irregular manner along time, which is a preliminary result in the course of research on the characteristic and the control of the stochastic system. The governing equation of the 'parametric' system is derived via F-P-K approach in stochastic sense. The influence on the stability due to the magnitude of auto power spectral density and cross power spectral density of random variation of system parameters is studied and the region is surveyed.

  • In the FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) problems, two different governing equations are to be solved together. One is fur the fluid and the other for the structure. Furthermore, a kinematic constraint should be imposed along the boundary between the fluid and the structure. We use the combined formulation, which incorporates both the fluid and structure equations of motion into a single coupled variational equation so that it is not necessary to calculate the fluid force on the surface of structure explicitly when solving the equations of motion of the structure. A two-dimensional channel flow divided by a Bernoulli-Euler beam is considered and the dynamic response of the beam under the influence of channel flow is studied. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a P2P1 Galerkin finite element method with ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) algorithm. The internal structural damping effect is not considered in this study and numerical results are compared with a previous work fer steady case. In addition to the Reynolds number, two non-dimensional parameters, which govern this fluid-structure system, are proposed. It is found that the larger the dynamic viscosity and density of the fluid are, the larger the damping of the beam is. Also, the added mass is found to be linearly proportional to the density of the fluid.
