A study on the following parallel machine problem is addressed in this research. An order is completed only when a given number of processes (cycle) are repeated. Anew cycle is possible only upon the completion of the previous cycle. Orders are classified into job group according to product feature. For a machine to switch to a different job group from the currently processing one a major setup is required while a minor setup time is inserted in between two jobs of the same job group. The objective of the study is to find a schedule that minimizes total weighted tardiness. An initial solution is obtained by the RATCS(Restricted Apparent Tardiness Cost with Setup) rule, and a Tabu search is applied to improve the solution. Numerical examples are also presented.
We report a simple route for synthesizing multi-dimensional structured silicon anode materials from commercially available bulk silicon powders via metal-assisted chemical etching process. In the first step, silver catalyst was deposited onto the surface of bulk silicon via a galvanic displacement reaction. Next, the silver-decorated silicon particles were chemically etched in a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen peroxide to make multi-dimensional silicon consisting of one-dimensional silicon nanowires and micro-scale silicon cores. As-synthesized silicon particles were coated with a carbon via thermal decomposition of acetylene gas. The carbon-coated multi-dimensional silicon anodes exhibited excellent electrochemical properties, including a high specific capacity (1800 mAh/g), a stable cycling retention (cycling retention of 89% after 20 cycles), and a high rate capability (71% at 3 C rate, compared to 0.1 C rate). This process is a simple and mass-productive (yield of 40-50%), thus opens up an effective route to make a high-performance silicon anode materials for lithiumion batteries.

An efficient wet process approach to modifying natural graphite (NG) electrodes for Li-ion batteries is introduced in this paper. With homogeneous mixing and thermal decomposition of NG with diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4), phosphorus and nitrogen were successfully incorporated into the surface layer of NG particles. Electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses demonstrated that the surface was well modified by this process. As a result, the treated NG electrodes exhibited much improved electrochemical performance over pristine NG at two different temperatures: 25 ℃ and 50 ℃. Excellent capacity retention of 95.6% was obtained after 100 cycles at 50 ℃. These enhanced properties were confirmed in a morphology analysis on the cross-sections of the NG electrodes after galvanostatic cycling. The improved cycle and thermal stabilities can be attributed to the surface treatment with phosphorus and nitrogen; the treatment formed a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer that performed well when undergoing Li insertion and extraction cycling.

In this study, we have developed a composite pressure vessel that is compact and can store refrigerant at high pressure to increase the refrigerant volume. The composite pressure vessel is made of aluminum-based duralumin, which has high rigidity and excellent elongation in the inner liner, considering the characteristics of products in the aerospace and defense industry, where the safety of the applied product is considered as a priority. High strength carbon fiber was applied to the outside. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed product, burst test and cycling test were carried out. In burst test, an excellent safety margin equivalent to 2.7 times the operating pressure was obtained. In cycling test, a stable failure mode in which 'pre-burst leak' occurs is proved and the soundness of the product is proved.

A lithium secondary battery is the most promising candidate for future energy storage devices. On the other hand, the battery capacity decreases gradually due to the small amount of water and decomposition of the salts during the charging and discharging process, which deteriorates at high temperatures. Many researchers focused on increasing the cycling performance, but there have been few studies on the fundamental problem that removes water and HF molecules. In this study, silane molecules that are capable of absorbing water and HF molecules are introduced to the separator. Firstly, silica-coated amino-silane (APTES, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) was synthesized, then the silica reacted with epoxy-silane, GPTMS ((3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane). A ceramic-coated separator was fabricated using the silane-coated silica, which is coated on porous polyethylene substrates. FT-IR spectroscopy and TEM analysis were performed to examine the chemical composition and the shape of the silane-coated silica. SEM was performed to confirm the ceramic layers. LMO half cells were fabricated to evaluate the cycling performance at 60 ℃. The cells equipped with a GPTMS-silica separator showed stable cycling performance, suggesting that it would be a solution for improving the cycling performance of the Li-ion batteries at high temperatures.

A Li$[Co_{0.17}Li_{0.28}Mn_{0.55}]O_2$ cathode compound was prepared by a simple combustion method. The X-ray diffraction pattern showed that this compound could be classified as ${\alpha} -NaFeO_2$ structure type with the lattice constants of a = 2.8405(9) ${\AA}$ and c = 14.228(4) ${\AA}$. According to XANES analysis, the oxidation state of Mn and Co ions in the compound were 4+ and 3+, respectively. During the first charge process, the irreversible voltage plateau at around 4.65 V was observed. The similar voltage-plateau was observed in the initial charge profile of other solid solution series between $Li_2MnO_3\;and\;LiMnO_2$ (M=Ni, Cr...). The first discharge capacity was 187 mAh/g and the second discharge capacity increased to 204 mAh/g. As the increase of cycling number, one smooth discharge profile was converted to two distinct sub-plateaus and the discharge capacity was slowly decreased. From the Co and Mn K-edge XANES spectra measured at different cyclic process, it can be concluded that irreversible transformation of phase is occurred during continuous cycling process.

As a cathode material of lithium rechargeable batteries, charged Li[Co0.1Ni0.15Li0.2Mn0.55]O2 electrodes, which were aged thermally at 25 oC and 90 oC respectively, were characterized by means of charge/discharger, impedance spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The discharge capacity diminution of the electrodes aged at 25 oC and 90 oC for 1 week was 4% and 23%, respectively. The cell aged at 25 oC was recovered on cycling. However, the capacity loss after ageing at 90 oC was not recovered in a subsequent cycling test, which demonstrates that the reaction occurring during ageing at 90 oC is irreversible. A significant impedance increase of aged electrode at 90 oC is associated with irreversible capacity loss. The structural changes including phase transformation were not detected by XRD analysis, because it could be due to out of detection limit. After ageing, impedance was slightly decreased during subsequent cycling test. It could be explained the cyclic performance of aged sample is stable. The thermal stability was not deteriorated by ageing even at the high temperature of 90 oC.

In this study, the characteristics of Si-$SiO_2$ interface and its degradation in short channel SONOSFET nonvolatile memory devices, fabricated by 1Mbit CMOS process($1.2{\mu}m$ design rule), with $65{\AA}$ blocking oxide layer, $205{\AA}$ nitride layer, and $30{\AA}$ tunneling oxide layer on the silicon wafer were investigated using the charge pumping method. For investigating the Si-$SiO_2$ interface characteristics before and after write/erase cycling, charge pumping current characteristics with frequencies, write/erase cycles, as a parameters, were measured. As a result, average Si-$SiO_2$ interface trap density and mean value of capture cross section were determined to be $1.203{\times}10^{11}cm^{-2}eV^{-1}\;and\;2.091{\times}10^{16}cm^2$ before write/erase cycling, respectively. After cycling, when the write/erase cycles are $10^4$, average $Si-SiO_2$ interface trap density was $1.901{\times}10^{11}cm^{-2}eV^{-1}$. Incresing write/erase cycles beyond about $10^4$, Si-$SiO_2$ interface characteristics with write/erase cycles was increased logarithmically.
Electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) which are fabricated using carbon based electrodes have been emerging at an alarming rate to fulfill the energy demand in the present day world. Activated charcoal has been accepted as a very suitable candidate for electrodes but its cost is higher than natural graphite. Present study is about fabrication of EDLCs using composite electrodes with activated charcoal and Sri Lankan natural graphite as well as a gel polymer electrolyte which is identified as a suitable substitute for liquid electrolytes. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, Cyclic Voltammetry and Galvanostatic Charge Discharge test were done to evaluate the performance of the fabricated EDLCs. Amount of activated charcoal and natural graphite plays a noticeable role on the capacity. 50 graphite : 40 AC : 10 PVdF showed the optimum single electrode specific capacity value of 15 F/g. Capacity is determined by the cycling rate as well as the potential window within which cycling is being done. Continuous cycling resulted an average single electrode specific capacity variation of 48 F/g - 16 F/g. Capacity fading was higher at the beginning. Later, it dropped noticeably. Initial discharge capacity drop under Galvanostatic Charge Discharge test was slightly fast but reached near stable upon continuous charge discharge process. It can be concluded that initially some agitation is required to reach the maturity. However, the results can be considered as encouraging to initiate studies on EDLCs using Sri Lankan natural graphite.

Given the high theoretical capacity (1,675 mAh g-1) and the inherent affordability and ubiquity of elemental sulfur, it stands out as a prominent cathode material for advanced lithium metal batteries. Traditionally, sulfur was sequestered within conductive porous carbons, rooted in the understanding that their inherent conductivity could offset sulfur's non-conductive nature. This study, however, pivots toward a transformative approach by utilizing diatom shell (DS, diatomite)-a naturally abundant and economically viable siliceous mineral-as a sulfur host. This approach enabled the development of a sulfurlayered diatomite/S composite (DS/S) for cathodic applications. Even in the face of the insulating nature of both diatomite and sulfur, the DS/S composite displayed vigorous participation in the electrochemical conversion process. Furthermore, this composite substantially curbed the loss of soluble polysulfides and minimized structural wear during cycling. As a testament to its efficacy, our Li-S battery, integrating this composite, exhibited an excellent cycling performance: a specific capacity of 732 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles and a robust 77% capacity retention. These findings challenge the erstwhile conviction of requiring a conductive host for sulfur. Owing to diatomite's hierarchical porous architecture, eco-friendliness, and accessibility, the DS/S electrode boasts optimal sulfur utilization, elevated specific capacity, enhanced rate capabilities at intensified C rates, and steadfast cycling stability that underscore its vast commercial promise.
