Tridentate Schiff base ligands such as $SIPH_2,\;SIPCH_2,\;HNIPH_2,\;and\; HNIPCH_2$ were prepared by the reaction of salicylaldehyde and 2-hydroxy-l-naphthaldehyde with 2-aminophenol and 2-amino-p-cresol. The structures and properties of ligands and their Co(II) complexes were investigated by elemental analysis, $^1H$NMR, IR, UV-visible spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis. The molar ratio of Schiff base to the metal of complexes was found to be 1:1. Co(II) complexes were contemplated to be hexa-coordinated octahedral configuration containing three water molecules. The redox process of ligands and complexes in DMSO solution containing 0.1 M TBAP as a supporting electrolyte were investigated by cyclic voltammetry with glassy carbon electrode. The redox process of the tridentate Schiff base ligands was totally irreversible. The redox process of Co(II) complexes were irreversible and one electron processes by two steps in diffusion controlled reaction. The reduction potential of the Co(II) complexes was shifted to the positive direction in the order [Co(Ⅱ)$(HNIPC)(H_2O)_3$]>[Co(Ⅱ)$(HNIP)(H_2O)_3$]>[Co(II)$(SIPC)(H_2O)_3$]>[Co(Ⅱ)$(SIP)(H_2O)_3], and their dependence on ligands were not so high.

Active carbons with high specific surface area and micro pore structure were prepared from the coconut shell char using the chemical activation method of NaOH. The preparation process has been optimized through the analysis of experimental variables such as activating chemical agents to char ratio and the flow rate of gas during carbonization. The active carbons with the surface area (2,481 $m^2/g$) and mean pore size (2.32 nm) were obtained by chemical activation with NaOH. The electrochemical performances of hybrid capacitor were investigated using $LiMn_2O_4$, $LiCoO_2$ as the positive electrode and prepared active carbon as the negative electrode. The electrochemical behaviors of hybrid capacitor using organic electrolytes ($LiPF_6$, $TEABF_4$) were characterized by constant current charge/discharge, cyclic voltammetry, cycle and leakage tests. The hybrid capacitor using $LiMn_2O_4$/AC electrodes had better capacitance than other hybrid systems and was able to deliver a specific energy as high as 131 Wh/kg at a specific power of 1,448 W/kg.

The mechanism fur the surface film formation was studied by in situ Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) observation of a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) basal plane surface during cyclic voltammetry at a slow scan-rate of 0.5 mV $s^{-1}$ in 1 moi $dm^{-3}$ (M) $LiPF_6$ dissolved in a mixture of ethylene carbonate (EC) and diethyl carbonate (DEC). Decomposition of the electrolyte solution began at a potential around 2.15 V vs. $Li^+$/Li on step edges. In the potential range 0.95-0.8 V vs. $Li^+$/Li, flat areas (hill-like structures) and large swelling appeared on the surface. It is considered that these two features were formed by the intercalation of solvated lithium ions and their decomposition beneath the surface, respectively. At potentials more negative than 0.80 V vs. $Li^+$/Li, particle-like precipitates appeared on the basal plane surface. After the first cycle, the thickness of the precipitate layer was 30 nm. The precipitates were considered to be decomposition of the lithium salt ($LiPF_6$) and solvent molecules (EC and DEC), and to have an important role in suppressing further solvent decomposition on the basal plane.

In this study, nitrogen doped carbon felt (CFt) is prepared using thermal oxidation and liquid phase ammonia treatment to improve the efficiency for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB). The electrochemical properties of prepared CFt electrodes are investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and charge/discharge test. The XPS result shows that the increase of liquid phase ammonia treatment temperature leads to the increased nitrogen functional group on the CFt surface. Redox reaction characteristics using CV reveal that the liquid phase ammonia treated CFt electrodes are more reversible than the thermally oxidized CFt. When CFt is treated by the liquid phase ammonia at $300^{\circ}C$, VRFB cell energy efficiency, voltage efficiency, and current efficiency are increased about 6.93%, 1.0%, and 4.5%, respectively, compared to those of the thermally oxidized CFt. These results are because nitrogen functional groups on CFt help to improve the electrochemical properties of redox reaction between electrode and electrolyte interface.

We introduced disposable amperometric immunosensors for the detection of Sildenafil and Vardenafil (SDF/VDF) based on screen printed carbon electrodes. The developed immunosensors were used as a non-competitive sandwich-type enzyme immunoassay with a horseradish peroxidase label. The sensors were constructed on screen printed carbon electrodes by the simple electrochemical deposition of a reduced graphene oxide and chitosan (ErGO-CS) composite. To evaluate the sensing chemistry and optimize the sensor characteristics, a series of electrochemical experiments were carried out including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and amperometry. The sensors showed a linear response to SDF/VDF concentrations in a range from 100 pg/mL to 300 ng/mL. The lower detection limit was calculated to be 55 pg/mL, the sensitivity was calculated to be $1.02{\mu}Ang/mL/cm^2$, and the sensor performance exhibited good reproducibility with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 7.1%. The proposed sensing chemistry strategy and the sensor format can be used as a simple, cost-effective, and feasible method for the in-field analysis of SDF/VDF in functional or health supplement food samples.
To improve the electrochemical performances of the cathode materials, boron-doped $LiNi_{0.90}Co_{0.05}Ti_{0.05}O_2$ were synthesized by using concentration gradient precursor. The characteristics of the prepared cathode materials were analyzed by XRD, SEM, EDS, PSA, ICP-OES and electrical conductivity measurement. The electrochemical performances were investigated by initial charge/discharge capacity, cycle stability, C-rate, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The cathode material with 0.5 mol% boron exhibited a capacity of 187 mAh/g (0.5 C) in a voltage range of 2.7~4.3 V(vs. $Li/Li^+$), and an capacity retention of 94.7% after 50 cycles. In the relatively high voltage range of 2.7~4.5 V(vs. $Li/Li^+$), it showed a high capacity of 200 mAh/g and capacity retention of 80.5% after 50 cycles.
In order to address many issues associated with large volume changes of silicon, which has very low electrical conductivity but offers about 10 times higher theoretical capacity than graphite (Gr), a silicon nanoparticles/hollow carbon (SiNP/HC) composite having bimodal-mesopores was prepared using silica nanoparticles as a template. A control SiNP/C composite without a hollow structure was also prepared for comparison. The physico-chemical and electrochemical properties of SiNP/HC were analyzed by X-ray diffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurements for surface area and pore size distribution, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, galvanostatic cycling, and cyclic voltammetry tests to compare them with those of the SiNP/C composite. The SiNP/HC composite showed significantly better cycle life and efficiency than the SiNP/C, with minimal increase in electrode thickness after long cycles. A hybrid composite, SiNP/HC@Gr, prepared by physical mixing of the SiNP/HC and Gr at a 50:50 weight ratio, exhibited even better cycle life and efficiency than the SiNP/HC at low capacity. Thus, silicon/carbon composites designed to have hollow spaces capable of accommodating volume expansion were found to be highly effective for long cycle life of silicon-based composites. However, further study is required to improve the low initial coulombic efficiency of SiNP/HC and SiNP/HC@Gr, which is possibly because of their high surface area causing excessive electrolyte decomposition for the formation of solid-electrolyte-interface layers.

In this study, reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline composite was fabricated tomaximize their advantages with electrochemical performances and use as a electrodematerial for supercapcaitor. Polyaniline as an electrode material was synthesized bychemical polymerization of aniline monomer and reduced graphene oxide wasintroduced to prepare composite with polyaniline without any pre-treatment. Thereduced graphene oxide, polyaniline and their composite electrodes were fabricatedon gold coated PET(polyethylene terephthalate) substrate through spray coatingmethod which can also apply to industrial scale. we have also prepared reducedgraphene oxide and polyaniline single material electrode to compare theirelectrochemical properties with reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline composite electrode. We have analyzed and compared electrochemical properties of eachelectrodes by using cyclic voltammetry(CV), galvanostaticcharge-discharge(GCD) and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy(EIS) at same condition. As a result, reduced graphene oxide /polyaniline composite electrode showed higher capacitance value more thanpolyaniline and reduced graphene oxide electrode, respectively. Internal resistanceof reduce graphene oxide/polyaniline composite electrode was 24% and 58% lessthan polaniline and reduced graphene oxide electrode respectively. These resultsconsidered that reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline composite electrode has potential ability and enable to apply flexible energy storage and wearable devices.

Zr electrorefining is demonstrated herein using Zirlo tubes in a chloride-fluoride mixed molten salt in the presence of $AlF_3$. Cyclic voltammetry reveals a monotonic shift in the onset of metal reduction kinetics towards positive potential and an increase in intensity of the additional peaks associated with Zr-Al alloy formation with increasing $AlF_3$ concentration. Unlike the galvanostatic deposition mode, a radial plate-type Zr growth is evident at the top surface of the salt during Zr electrorefining at a constant potential of -1.2 V. The diameter of the plate-type Zr deposit gradually increases with increasing $AlF_3$ concentration. Scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses for the plate-type Zr deposit show that trace amount of Al is incorporated as Zr-Al alloys with different chemical compositions between the top and bottom surface of the deposit. Addition of $AlF_3$ is effective in lowering the residual salt content in the deposit and in improving the current efficiency for Zr recovery.
In this study, the electrochemical characteristics of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch anode composites were analyzed to improve the low theoretical capacity of graphite as a lithium ion battery. The Graphite/Silica composites were synthesized by bonding silica onto polyvinylpyrrolidone coated graphite. The surface of used silica was treated with (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane(APTES). Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were prepared by carbonization of petroleum pitch, the fabrication processes including the magnesiothermic reduction of nano silica to obtain silicon and varying the mass ratio of silica. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were analysed by XRD, SEM and XRD. Also the electrochemical performances of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite as the anode of lithium ion battery were investigated by constant current charge/discharge, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance tests in the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved in organic solvents (EC:DMC:EMC=1:1:1 vol%). The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch anode composite (silica 28.5 in weight) has better capacity (537 mAh/g). The cycle performance has an excellent capacity retention to 30th cycle of 95% and the retention rate capability of 98% in 0.1 C/0.2 C.
