  • In this paper, ageing diagnostics in the large capacity oil transformer are investigated. Following items are investigated for the ageing diagnostic in transformer oils (leakage current of sensor, power consumption and temperature of transformer oil). All temperature data are gathered from daily report in the substation. The power consumption of transformer are gathered output report of APIS(Airport Power Information System). Especially, data of sensor leakage current are accumulated from the online diagnostic system for transformer oil. The temperature of transformer oils major change factor was ambient temperature and capacity of power load. The leakage current are change by oil temperature. The leakage current ware not more than 2 [nA] in summer,

  • The main drawback of parallel type active power filters (APFs) is the large capacity required for harmonic compensation. This paper evaluates the APF capacity requirement for harmonic/reactive power compensation for thyristor converter load. Theoretically achievable maximum power factor under partial load is evaluated. it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced by deliberately limiting the peak current, while maintaining the filtering performance with an acceptable total harmonic current level. the minimum capacity requirement of APF with current limiting is evaluated as a function of the firing angle of thyristor converter and short circuit ratio(SCR).

  • This paper proposes a new method to improve the available battery capacity in electric vehicles by connecting lead-acid batteries with lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply power. In addition, this method combines the discharge characteristics of batteries to improve their efficiency and lower their cost for electric vehicles. A lithium-ion battery set is used to connect with N sets of lead-acid batteries in parallel. The lead-acid battery supplies the initial power. When the lead-acid battery is discharged by the load current until its output voltage drops to the cut-off voltage, the power management unit controls the lead-acid battery and changes it to discharge continuously with a small current. This discharge can be achieved by connecting the lead-acid battery to a lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply the load power or to discharge its current to another lead-acid or lithium-ion battery. Experimental results demonstrates that the available capacity can be improved by up to 30% of the rated capacity of the lead-acid batteries.

  • We investigated the operating characteristics of the hybrid-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) according to the inductance of secondary windings. The hybrid type SFCL consists of a transformer that has a primary winding and a secondary winding with serially connected $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) films. The resistive-type SFCL has difficulty when it comes to raising the capacity of the SFCL due to slight differences of critical current densities between units and structure of the SFCL. The hybrid-type SFCL with closed-loop is able to achieve capacity increase through the electrical isolation and reduction of the inductance of the secondary winding with a superconducting element of the same critical current. On the other hand, the current limiting characteristics were nearly identical in the hybrid-type SFCL with open-loop compared to closed-loop, but quench time was longer than the hybrid-type SFCL with closed-loop. We confirmed that the capacity of the SFCL was increased effectively by the reduced inductance of the secondary winding. In addition, the power burden of the system also could be lowered by reducing the inductance of secondary winding.

  • A parallel control strategy in capacity proportion frequency allocation mode for shunt active power filters (APFs) is proposed to overcome some of the difficulties in high power applications. To improve the compensation accuracy and overall system stability, an improved selective harmonic current control based on multiple synchronous rotating reference coordinates is presented in a single APF unit, which approximately implements zero steady-state error compensation. The combined decoupling strategy is proposed and theoretically analyzed to simplify selective harmonic current control. Improved selective harmonic current control forms the basis for multi-APF parallel operation. Therefore, a parallel control strategy is proposed to realize a proper optimization so that the APFs with a larger capacity compensate more harmonic current and the ones with a smaller capacity compensate less harmonic current, which is very practical for accurate harmonic current compensation and stable grid operation in high power applications. This is verified by experimental results. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced from 29% to 2.7% for a typical uncontrolled rectifier load with a resistor and an inductor in a laboratory platform.

  • This paper proposes a control method for high voltage direct current(HVDC) with modular multilevel converter (MMC) under unbalanced voltage conditions considering the submodule(SM)'s current capacity and circulating current. It is aimed to propose a control method in which the current peak value does not exceed the maximum value of HVDC-MMC by considering the current capacity of the SM under unbalance voltage conditions. And it analyzes the effect of the unbalanced voltage on circulating currents in MMC and then proposes a control method considering each component of circulating currents under unbalanced voltages. The effectiveness of the proposed controlling method is verified through simulation results using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • High-capacity secondary batteries can cause explosion hazards owing to microcurrent variations or current surges that occur in short circuits. Consequently, complete safety cannot be achieved with general protection that is limited to a mere current fuse. Hence, in the case of secondary batteries, it is necessary for the protector to limit the inrush current in a short circuit, and to detect the current during microcurrent variations. To serve this purpose, a fuse can be employed for the secondary battery protection circuit with current detection. This study aims at designing a protection device that can stably operate in the hazardous circumstances associated with high-capacity secondary batteries. To achieve the said objective, a detecting fuse was designed from an alloy of low melting point elements for securing stability in abnormal current states. Experimental results show that the operating I-T and V-T characteristic constraints can be satisfied by employing the proposed current detecting self-contained low melting point fuse, and through the resistance of the heating resistor. These results thus verify that the proposed protection device can prevent the hazards of short circuit current surges and microcurrent variations of secondary batteries.

  • This paper presents the brief analytical study on 돋 effects of higher impedance transformer(HIT) to reduce distribution system fault current. With the increase of source and load capacity of power system, fault current of D/L is much more increased and, conventional protection equipment-such as sectionalizer and recloser, have to be replaced higher switching capacity. However, this replacements needs a lot of budget to utility. Increase of transformer impedance is can be a countermeasure in practical basis. This paper compares the voltage and fault current magnitude of both cases -%Zt=20% and %Zt2=33.3%(transformer capacity is 75/100MVA). The simulation results show that the steady state voltage of HIT is dropped 5~6% more in peak load, and fault current was decreased about 5kA by high impedance on transformer.

  • Power demands are increased because of the growth of the economy and the improvement of a given condition life. For this reason, the fault current of the power system is largely increased and the fault current procedure for the proper interrupting capacity calculation of the existing or the new circuit breaker is essential. This paper is basis on collection of the case of foregin countries. It presented the new procedure of the fault current for the interrupting capacity of the circuit breaker. This procedure is applied to the future power system and calculates the fault current.

  • we evaluated the effects of joining process such as contact method. shape of joined area and pressure on the electrical and mechanical properties of Bi-2223 superconducting tape, Specifically. the current capacity of the jointed tape was measured as a function of uniaxial pressure. and the thermal shock, bonding strength and the thermal of the tape were evaluated and correlated to the microstructural evolution. It was observed that the current capacity was significanrly dependent on the uniaxial pressure The jointed tape, fabricated with a pressure of 1,000-1,600 Mpa. showed the highest value of current capacity results from improvements in core density, contacting area and grain alignment, ect. In addition, the strength of jointed tape was measured to be 86 Mpa, which is about 88% of the unjoined ape's strength. The irreversible strain($\varepsilon$irrev) for the jointed tape was measured to be 0.1%, smaller than that of unjoined tape ($\varepsilon$irrev= 0.3%). The decrease in the strength and irreversible strain for jointed tape is believed to be due to the irregular geometry/morphology of the transition area of the tape.
