The purpose of this study is to analyze the curing effect of heating cable for concreting in cold weather. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the temperature history of concrete structures cured with embedded heating cables. Results are as follows : In comparison with the non-heating case, applying of heating cable resulted in the rise of temperature in the range of $10^{\circ}C$. In order to get successful results, the optimal pitch length for the embedded heating cables ranged from 20cm to 25cm. When working with the existing curing methods, applying this heating cable would be more effective in concrete curing. Finally, a formula and process was suggested to predict the Internal temperature history of concrete structures under the various curing conditions.
This study examined the curing temperature of concrete with a photothermal insulation sheet to shorten the curing time of concrete as part of construction cost and period reduction. According to the experiment results, the heating performance effect is confirmed through the temperature difference between photothermal insulation sheet and bubble sheet. And it has a high curing temperature in the order of bubble sheet (photo heating material B) > bubble sheet (photo heating material A) > bubble sheet on same layers.
This study aimed to examine whether heat curing methods of concrete subjected to $-10^{\circ}C$ could be effective by varying the combination of heating cable and surface heat insulations. Three different concrete specimens incorporating 30% fly ash with 50% W/B were fabricated to simulate wall, column and slab members with dimensions of $1600{\times}800{\times}200$ mm for slab, $800{\times}600{\times}200$ mm for wall and $800{\times}800{\times}800$ mm for column. For heat curing combinations, Type-1 specimens applied PE film for slab, plywood for wall and column curing. Type-2 specimens applied double layer bubble sheet (2LB) and heating coil for slab, and 50 mm styrofoam for wall and column curing. Type-3 specimen applied 2LB for slab, electrical heating mat for wall and column inside heating enclosure. The test results revealed that the temperature of Type 1 specimen dropped below $0^{\circ}C$ beginning at 48 hours after placement due to its poor heat insulating capability. Type 2 and 3 specimens maintained a temperature of around $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ after placement due to favorable heat insulating and thermal resistance.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the curing effect of planar surface heater for concreting in cold weather. Some experiments were conducted to evaluate the temperature history of concrete structures cured with heating sheets. Results are as follows ; (1) The temperature of concrete showed continuously rising trend with the heating by planar surface heater under the cold environmental condition of 3~-12$^{\circ}C$. And after about 24 hours the maximum temperature of concrete was reached at 25~3$0^{\circ}C$. (2) The temperature of slab concrete heated by planar surface heater of 130W/$m^2$ was at least $25^{\circ}C$ higher than that of an exterior air, and the curing performance was much more effective than heating by hot wind machine. (3) Through the curing by planar surface heater for 48 hours, the concrete maturity of about 1.5 times to heating by hot wind machine was acquired.
The objective of this study was to experimentally investigate the effect of heat curing methods on the temperature history and strength development of slab concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$. The goal was to determine proper heat curing methods for the protection of nuclear power plant structures against early-age frost damage under adverse (cold) conditions. Two types of methods were studied: heat insulation alone and in combination with a heating cable. For heat curing with heat insulation alone, either sawdust or a double layer bubble sheet (2-BS) was applied. For curing with a combination of heat insulation and a heating cable, an embedded heating cable was used with either a sawdust cover, a 2-BS cover, or a quadruple layer bubble sheet (4-BS) cover. Seven different slab specimens with dimensions of $1200{\times}600{\times}200$ mm and a design strength of 27 MPa were fabricated and cured at $-10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. The application of sawdust and 2-BS allowed the concrete temperature to fall below $0^{\circ}C$ within 40 h after exposure to $-10^{\circ}C$, and then, the temperature dropped to $-10^{\circ}C$ and remained there for 7 d owing to insufficient thermal resistance. However, the combination of a heating cable plus sawdust or 2-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $5^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. Moreover, the combination of the heating cable and 4-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. This was due to the continuous heat supply from the heating cable and the prevention of heat loss by the 4-BS. For maturity development, which is an index of early-age frost damage, the application of heat insulation materials alone did not allow the concrete to meet the minimum maturity required to protect against early-age frost damage after 7 d, owing to poor thermal resistance. However, the combination of the heating cable and the heat insulating materials allowed the concrete to attain the minimum maturity level after just 3 d. In the case of strength development, the heat insulation materials alone were insufficient to achieve the minimum 7-d strength required to prevent early-age frost damage. However, the combination of a heating cable and heat insulating materials met both the minimum 7-d strength and the 28-d design strength owing to the heat supply and thermal resistance. Therefore, it is believed that by combining a heating cable and 4-BS, concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$ can be effectively protected from early-age frost damage and can attain the required 28-d compressive strength.
CFD analysis was performed to analyze the temperature distribution of the inner space of the curing house according to blocking the opening of the gang-form with a tent in case of concrete pouring and heat curing of the apartment house during the winter season. If the gang-form opening is closed with a tent during internal heating using a hot air blower in the winter, the internal temperature rises compared to the non-reserved due to air-tightness of the curing spaces, and uniform temperature distribution can be ensured. In addition, it is possible to increase curing efficiency by reducing the amount of heat supplied and shortening the heating time.
This study is to investigate the temperature hysteresis and development of compressive strength due to the curing conditions and to evaluate the optimum curing condition of test specimens showing the same development of strength to that of real structures in cold weather. The results of temperature curve with curing conditions in mock-up tests showed the trend of decrease plain concrete with insulation form, plain concrete with heating, concrete with accelerator for freeze protection, and control concrete in turn. The strength development of plain concrete of inside and outside of shelter showed the very slow strength gains due to early freezing, but that of concrete with accelerator for freeze protection showed the gradual increase of strength with time. From this, it is clear that accelerator for freeze protection has the effects of refusing the freezing temperature and accelerating the hardening under low temperature. Strength test results of small specimens embedded in members and located in insulation boxes at the site are similar to that of cores drilled from the members at the same ages, thus it is clear that these curing methods are effective for evaluating in-place concrete strength
When building with concrete in cold weather, an insulation method of heat curing must be determined, and a holistic curing plan that considers the characteristics of structures, the heat loss coefficient of a curing sheet, the joint condition of the curing materials and the quantity of heat produced by a heating apparatus is an essential prerequisite for protection against early frost damage. But on a number of national construction sites, there have been serious problems in cold weather concreting due to the unreliability of the information obtained from practical experience. In the construction field in Japan, there is a specification for heat curing prepared by Japanese Architectural Society, which provides an equation for calculating heat quantity. It is also necessary to adopt a detailed specification for a standard heat curing method that is applicable to all national construction sites. In this study, the effect of bubble sheets on the economic feasibility of cold weather concrete is investigated through a comparison with the blue sheets commonly prescribed in national construction sites. In conclusion, this study found that bubble sheets had the effect of reducing the cost of curing materials and the fuel cost consumed by a heating apparatus, compared to the use of blue sheets.
In order to examine the chemical stabilization through DCG curing of cement paste exposed to high temperature environment, we produced a sample of 40% W/C cement paste and heated it for 180 minutes under the heating temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. The DCG curing time was 6, Three time conditions were divided into 12 and 18 hours. As a result of XRD analysis, Calcite ($CaCO_3$) was found in Theta 29.4, 40, and 46.5o. As the curing time increased, the peak of Calcite also increased, which is due to the increased reaction time with DCG. Therefore, Calcite produced through DCG curing seems to have stabilized chemically by filling the pores generated by heating.
