수경재배 시 1년생 묘삼 이식 후 경과일수에 따른 인삼의 생육 및 Ginsenoside 함량 (Growth and Ginsenoside Content of One Year Old Ginseng Seedlings in Hydroponic Culture over a Range of Days after Transplanting)

  • Background: Ginseng produced by hydroponics can be cultivated without using agricultural chemicals; thus, it can be used as a raw materials for functional foods, medicines, and cosmetics. This study aimed to determine the optimal harvesting time to obtain the highest levels of ginsenoside and ginseng, as this was not previously unknown. Methods and Results: One-year-old organic ginseng seedlings were transplanted and cultivated using hydroponics for 150 days in a venlo-type greenhouse, using ginseng nursery bed soil and a nutrient solution ($NO_3{^-}-N$; 6.165, P; 3.525, K; 5.625, Ca; 4.365, Mg; 5.085, S; $5.31mEq/{\ell}$). Ginsenoside content and fresh and dry weights were higher at 120 days after transplanting than at 30, 60, 90, and 150 days. Total ginsenoside content was 11.86 times higher in the leaf and stem than in the root at 120 days after transplanting. Ginsenosides F1, F2, F3, and F5 were detected in ginseng leaves and stems. These chemical compounds are known to be effective in altering skin properties, including whitening, anti-inflammation, and anti-aging. Conclusions: Optimal harvesting time for ginseng cultivated using hydroponics was 120 days after transplanting when the biomass and ginsenoside content were highest.

비닐하우스와 관행재배 인삼의 생육특성 및 진세노사이드 함량 비교 (Comparison of Growth Characteristics and Ginsenoside Content of Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) Cultivated with Greenhouse and Traditional Shade Facility)

  • Growth characteristics, root yield and ginsenoside contents of 3-year-old ginseng in greenhouse shaded by $30^{\circ}$ sloped-curtain made of aluminum were compared to traditional shade facility in order to develop cultural practice for organic ginseng. Light transmittance ratio in greenhouse with $30^{\circ}$ sloped-curtain shade was distinctly lower than that of traditional shade from sunrise to 9 a.m., while its ratio in greenhouse was higher than traditional shade since 9 a.m. due to the reflection of light. Air temperature of greenhouse was $1.3^{\circ}C$ higher than that of traditional shade on the first ten days of August due to more reflected light. Root yield of greenhouse was 44% higher than that of traditional cultivation because of the inflow of reflected light and the decrease of disease of Alternaria and Anthracnose by blocking rainfall. Dry matter partitioning ratio of rhizome and lateral root were increased in ginseng cultivated at greenhouse due to longer survival time in leaf than traditional cultivation. Total ginsenoside contents cultivated at greenhouse was decreased in the part of taproot, while it was increased in the part of lateral and fine root compare to traditional cultivation. Individual ginsenoside contents between greenhouse and traditional cultivation showed significant difference more frequent in fine root than taproot and lateral root. Total ginsenoside contents including $Rb_1$, $Rb_2$, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, $Rg_1$, and $Rg_2$ in whole root of 3-year-old ginseng did not showed significant difference by greenhouse and traditional cultivation.

  • 인삼의 재배년근별, 국내산지별 및 국가별 무기물의 분포를 조사하기 위하여 시험한 결과 Mn은 2년근에 비하여 5년근에서 4배 가까운 증가추세를 나타내었다. 재배산지별로 볼때 P은 각 지역별로 큰 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 한편 각국 인삼별로는 중국 천칠삼에서 N의 함량이 적제 나타났으며 P은 한국산 정상홍삼에서 가장 높게 나타났다.

산양삼경옥고 현탁음료의 제조 (Preparation of Kyungohkgo Suspension Beverage Containing Cultivated Wild Ginseng)

  • The development of healthy beverages are increasing by big concerns for well-being. The aim of this study is to develop cultivated wild ginseng-Kyungohkgo (CKOG) beverage using cultivated wild ginseng instead of natural wild ginseng for Kyungohkgo. To examine physiochemical properties of CKOG beverage, pH, degree Brix, acidity, Huntor color, particle size and sedimentation volume were measured. When compared with commercial KOG beverage, CKOG beverage was lower in pH, acidity, particle size and higher in sedimentation volume. In the sensory evaluation of CKOG beverage, the best recipe of healthy CKOG beverage was 20% CKOG, 5.7% honey, 0.2% citric acid and 74.1% of water. In stability testing, pH, degree Brix, acidity, Huntor color of CKOG beverage was not changed, microbes in CKOG beverage was not detected for 60 days. These results suggest that CKOG may have a possibility of development as healthy beverage.

RAW264.7 대식세포주에서 근령별 산양삼 추출물의 항염증 효과 (Anti-inflammatory Effect of Cultivated Wild Panax ginseng Extracts at Various Ages in RAW264.6 Macrophages)

  • It is well-known that cultivated wild Panax ginseng has anti-inflammatory effect. However, a comparative study on cultivation period vs biofunctionality is currently lacking. In this study, 70% ethanol extracts of 3-years (yrs)-, 5-yrs-, or 7-yrs-old cultivated wild ginseng were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on RAW264.7 murine macrophages. Specifically, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-6 [IL-6] and tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-${\alpha}$]), the expression of surface proteins (CD80, CD86, and MHC-II), and the phagocytic properties were investigated. RAW264.7 cells were induced by 500 ng/mL of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and treated with 0.1, 1, and 10 ppm of samples. LPS-induced IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ and surface proteins in all samples were down-regulated in a dose-dependent manner. Both IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$ were significantly reduced at 10 ppm of the 7-yrs-old sample compared to 10 ppm of 3-yrs- and 5-yrs-old samples. CD80 and CD86 were also reduced at 10 ppm of all samples, and there was no difference among samples. The phagocytosis has no difference except in 10 ppm of 3 yr-old sample. The results suggest that cultivated wild ginseng extract has anti-inflammatory effect without decreasing phagocytosis.

산양산삼 증류약침의 혈맥주입 후 나타나는 혈장의 Proteom 분석 (Analysis of Serum Proteom after Intravenous Injection of cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture)

  • Objectives : To observe the changes in the serum proteins after intravenous injection of cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture. Methods : Blood was collected before and after the administration of cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture and only the serum was taken. Then differences in the spots on the scanned image after carrying out 2-Dimensional electrophoresis were located and conducted mass analysis and protein identification. Results : Following results were obtained from the comparative analysis of serum proteins before and after the administration of cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture. 1. 28 spots were identified before and after the administration. 2. In confirming manifestation degree, spots with more than two-times increase were 204, 1302, 2205, 3105, 7104, 8006, spots with more than one-time increase were 1101, 1505, 2013, 2403, 3009, 3010, 4002, 4009, 6704, 8101, and spots with decrease were 205, 801, 803, 3205, 5202, 6105, 6106, 7103, 9001, 9003. 3. After conducting protein identification, proteins 205, 804, 1302, 4009, 6105, 6106 are unidentified yet, and 1l01 is unnamed protein. Protein 204 is identified as complement receptor CR2-C3d, 801 as YAPl protein, 803 as antitrypsin polymer, 1505 as PRO0684, 2013 and 3010 as proapolipoprotein, 2205 as USP48, 2403 as vitamin D binding protein, 3009 as complement component 4A preprotein, 3105 as immunoglobulin lambda chain, 3205 as transthyretin, 4002 as Ras-related protein Ral-A, 4204 as beta actin, 5202 and 7104 as apolipoprotein Ll, 6704 as alpha 2 macroglobulin precursor, 7103 as complement component 3 precursor, 8006 as testis-specific protein Y, 8101 as transferrin, 9001 as (Alpha-Oxy, Beta-(Cl12g)deoxy) T-State Human Hemoglobin, and 9003 as human hemoglobin. 4. Immune protein CR2-C3d(204), which acts against microbes and pathogenic organisms, was increased by more than two-times after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 5. Antitrypsin(803), which is secreted with inflammatory response in the lungs, was reduced after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 6. Proapolipoprotein(2013, 3010) and apolipoprotein(7104), key components of the HDL-cholesterol which plays an important role in preventing arteriosclerosis, were increased after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 7. Vitamin D binding protein(DBP, 2403), protecting the lung at the time of inflammatory response, was increased after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 8. Transthyretin(TTR, 3205), which is the main protein causing familial amyloid polyneuropathy(FAP), was decreased after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 9. Ras-related protein Ral-A(4002) that controls phospholipid metabolism, cytoskeletal formation, and membrane traffic, was increased after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 10. Testis-specific protein Y(8006), which takes part in determination of the gender, was increased by more than two-times after the administration of pharmacopuncture. 11. Transferrin(8101), which balances the iron level in the body, was increased after the administration of pharmacopuncture. Conclusion : Above results support the notion that intravenous injection of cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture induce changes in serum proteins and this research can be a pioneer work in finding biomarkers.

산삼약침 혈맥주입을 시행한 비소세포성폐암 환자 2례 (Two Cases of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Treated with Intravenous Cultivated Wild Ginseng Pharmacopuncture)

  • Objectives To investigate the therapeutic effects of intravenous cultivated wild ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) pharmacopuncture(CWGP) in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). Design Prospective case series. Setting This study was conducted at the East-West Cancer Center of Dunsan Oriental Hospital, Daejeon University. Patients Two non-small cell lung cancer patients. Intervention Two non-small cell lung cancer patients were injected CWGP(20mL/day) mixed with 0.9% normal saline(100mL) intravenously. Each patient received a total of 16 and 9 cycles, respectively. One cycle is composed of 14 days. Outcome Measures The effect of intravenous CWGP was measured by scanning with computed tomography(CT) after every 2 cycle and Positron emission tomography- computed tomography(PET/CT) after every 6 cycles. Response and progression was evaluated using the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(RECIST) Committee classification of complete response(CR), partial response(PR), progressive disease(PD) and stable disease(SD). Results They were treated with intravenous CWGP for 8 and 5 months respectively. time later, each tumor remains stable disease(SD). Conclusion These cases may give us a possibility that intravenous CWGP offers potential benefits for non-small cell lung cancer patients.

산삼비만약침과 매선요법을 병행한 복부비만 치료의 임상 효과 증례보고 (A Case Series: The Effects of Cultivated Wild Ginseng Pharmacopuncture and Thread Implantation Therapy on Abdominal Obesity)

  • 5명의 복부비만 환자에게 산삼비만약침과 매선요법을 병행하여 주 2회, 총 4회 치료를 실시한 결과 체지방 1.36 kg, 허리둘레 3.98 cm 감소하였다. 산삼비만약침과 매선은 부분비만에 대한 치료효과가 분명히 있는 것으로 판단되나 향후 개별 치료효과에 대한 판정, 혈액검사를 통한 치료효과의 확인, 안전한 치료용량에 대한 탐색이 필요할 것으로 생각한다.

강화 지역의 인삼 재배 역사 (The history of ginseng cultivation in Ganghwa area)

  • 우리나라 한방 의서 중 인삼의 첫 기록은 고려 시대 임시 수도인 강화 도읍기 때 강화도에서 출간된 향약구급방에 나타나 있다. 강화지역에서 인삼재배의 시작은 1100년경부터 시작되었을 것으로 사료 된다. 본격적인 인삼재배 시작은 1920년경 개성인삼조합의 특별구역으로 지정되면서부터였고, 1950년 한국전쟁 시작 때까지 계속되었다. 1953년 휴전 이후부터 강화지역에서 인삼재배가 다시 시작되었다. 1967년에 강화삼업조합이 창립되었으며, 이때 재배 면적이 약 200ha(60만평)이었고, 1974년에 약 900ha(270만평)으로 증가 되었다. 따라서 강화는 1970년대 중반기에 우리나라 전국 시, 군 가운데 인삼재배 면적과 생산량이 가장 높은 지역이였다. 강화지역에서 생산되는 인삼은 주로 6년근이고, 홍삼원료로 사용되어 국내 인삼생산지로 더욱 유명하게 되었고, 그 명성이 현재도 계속되고 있다.

High-performance liquid chromatography analysis of phytosterols in Panax ginseng root grown under different conditions

  • Background: The Panax ginseng plant is used as an herbal medicine. Phytosterols of P. ginseng have inhibitory effects on inflammation-related factors in HepG2 cells. Methods: Phytosterols (e.g., stigmasterol and ${\beta}$-sitosterol) in the roots of P. ginseng grown under various conditions were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography. The P. ginseng roots analyzed in this study were collected from three cultivation areas in Korea (i.e., Geumsan, Yeongju, and Jinan) and differed by cultivation year (i.e., 4 years, 5 years, and 6 years) and production process (i.e., straight ginseng, red ginseng, and white ginseng). Results: The concentrations of stigmasterol and ${\beta}$-sitosterol in P. ginseng roots were 2.22-23.04 mg/g and 7.35-59.09 mg/g, respectively. The highest concentrations of stigmasterol and ${\beta}$-sitosterol were in the roots of 6-year-old P. ginseng cultivated in Jinan (82.14 mg/g and 53.23 mg/g, respectively). Conclusion: Six-year-old white ginseng and white ginseng cultivated in Jinan containing stigmasterol and b-sitosterol are potentially a new source of income in agriculture.
